Long time listener, first time caller.

 

I thought I would share my pod interview with Nick Puntober on The Moonlight Graham Show. He was awesome all around but I think my favorite part was when he talked about getting hurt in 2004 when Mauer blew out his knee. They were sent down to florida to rehab. They sat on Mauer's couch and watched twins games every night and listened to rap music together. "Joe Mauer's rap game is solid."

He remembers very fondly the Terry Ryan era in the conversation and praised "the Twins way." Talk about what is now an old school take.

Punto should be happy about the Ryan era. Who else would have foolishly drastically overpaid him $8.5 million for 2 years?

You're underrating Punto here. He played excellent defense around the infield, albeit with a below average arm. Was great at working at bats despite being such a light hitter. Punto was worth what the Twins paid him overall, 4 million for a good utility player, even back in the mid 2000's is not some absurd proposition.

Punto is one of those guys that goes underappreciated by many.  He was a player that wasn't overly gifted, but worked hard and was a pretty good role player for some pretty good teams.  Winning teams need guys like that and there's usually a place for them on those types of teams.  There's a reason that he was in the league as long as he was.

Who knows, maybe we do win one if Punto doesn't try to score from second base on an infield base hit vs the Yankees and get thrown out by 55 feet.
