I already had chicken for dinner ... grilled chicken thighs, coleslaw, 3-bean salad and orzo salad. I won't say what I had for dessert because I don't wanna say.

Is there really chatter about plunking someone over Sano??  Come on, we're better than that.

As for the situation with Dozier at the plate, as long as the catcher has the ball, he can do whatever he has to do to block the plate.  If he's waiting for the throw to come in, he has to give a clear sliding/running lane to the plate.  Gone are the days of being able to sneak your leg into the lane to block off the plate before he has possession.  Since the throw led Nicholas into the basepath, he's entitled to go get the ball and since it made him jump, he doesn't have much control over where he comes down.  So everything that happened there was legal and it just so happened that Dozier might have gotten a spike.  That's the breaks sometimes.

I assume that this particular play was legal, although I wonder what the definition of the width of a clear lane is. And if you watch the replay the catcher didn't land as one normally would after a jump. He clearly (IMHO) was trying to block the plate. It's all a moot point since Dozier scored and wasn't injured, but the catcher's foot was very close to taking away the clear lane. His foot came down just a fraction of a second late.

Fun fact:  In my spare time, I like to race snails.  I know, I know...snails, right??  But it's actually kind of fun, and believe it or not there's money in it.

My favorite snail has been in a slump though, so I thought maybe he'd be a bit faster if I removed his shell.

But all it did was make him sluggish.

Oooo

Well, did he take away the clear lane or not? Very close to it, but not, it would seem to me then he wasn't doing anything illegal per the rule. Perhaps you've answered your own question.

If he has the ball, he can be wherever he wants to be.  In this situation, he makes the catch while airborne, so naturally his goal will be to take away as much of the plate as possible before Dozier gets there.  Dozier got underneath him just in time and got the plate before gravity took full hold.

I read the original post in the voice of the maitre'd from Ferris Bueller.

Thank ye kindly!

Steve Martin's Muppet Movie cameo would have been another source of inspiration, if i had fully developed my theme...

And of course not far from thought was "if you say no, Chief and i will eat breakfest lunch and dinner here every day of the week."

Anyway, g'night everyone! I am safely in the Twin Cities greater metro area, and am going to get a full night's sleep before planning any further...

And speaking of sluggish, how 'bout this game thread??

thanks, thanks everyone.  I'll be here all week.  Try the chicken.

Or the cold turkey.

The Twins finally showed they can have a second half offense.  Since Sano's blast in the 5th, we've started scoring.  A bunch of singles wouldn't hurt, but it seems like many are swinging for the fences.
