Why press our luck any further? Great spot to bring in Duffy who hopefully goes 1 and a third.

Because a guy like Mejia needs to learn to finish an inning like that. They've got a 4 run lead, let the kid learn something.

I'm a whiskey guy, so Manhattans are a staple along with Sazeracs.

Over the winter, I barrel aged each of those cocktails and they turned out pretty well. I've still got some left, but 2 liters don't go as far as you'd think!

The Sazerax was originally made with Cognac, until Phylloxera destroyed the vineyards of France and imported brandy became unavailable or uneconomical. The fine bartenders of New Orleans swapped it for Rye, and that's how you see it today, although most rye sold in the contemporary market is much closer to Bourbon than rye was before Prohibition.

The more you know!

Not today he doesn't, the win is far more valuable

That is correct. I actually made my barrel aged sazerac with cognac, but if I make one from scratch I usually use rye.

So when exactly does he need to learn? It's June and they're only half a game back with a 4 run lead. I'm not suggesting he be allowed to completely give away the lead, but with only one more out remaining and he wasn't laboring he should be allowed to finish the inning.

These young pitchers need to learn to get through those types of innings. Especially since this bullpen is terrible.

Are you a Campari drinker? I love the whiskey based Negroni variations. That might make a good barrel aged project

Okay, whaddya mean by "straight-up"?

Ha ... just meant that it doesn't have to be clever, witty, comical ... and can be straight up baseball.

It's too bitter for my liking, but I made a fantastic barrel aged Boulevardier that is easily the favorite of the four barrel aged cocktails I've made. I've had some barrel aged negronis and I can drink them. I have a hard time drinking "fresh" ones because of the bitterness. The aging really takes the edge off of the Campari. If you like them, a negroni would be a great barrel aged project.

I tried making a vieux carre in the barrel after the boulevardier thinking the Campari might put an interesting twist on it, but I don't really like it. I'm trying different types of bitters to kind of hit that taste I was looking for.

We need a nickname for Adelberto. I vote for Bert, given that the other Bert's full name is Rik Aalbert.

I think Berto. Just because I wouldn't want to confuse the two, and I just kinda like Berto.

Jeepers, I'm going bananas over here.  Sazeracs, Manhattans, barrel-aged bourons, and now Campari.  9:34 in the morning, and I've got visions of lover-ly cocktails dancing in my head....  I can't take any more!

What Tyler Duffey is doing now - stopper, is what I see Trevor Hildenberger doing very soon.

I suspect Hildenberger will prove to be more effective vs RHB. Most sidearmers are. SSS, but he's struck out 3 of 7 RHB he has faced. His minor league numbers suggest he will fare far better vs RHB as well. He has struck out 1 of 5 lefties, 1 of 3 righties in AAA.

The walks late in games are driving me mad. Especially in front of someone like pedroia

Better send Dick Such out there right away, and cuff that young man around the ears.  Can't be walking guys in this lineup.

Or any dang lineup.

I think a libation is in order

Somewhat ironical to our discussion, I'm drinking a nice Cabernet.
