I don't think I have enough scotch for this.

I'm not sure Scotland has enough scotch for this.

And eat two years of his salary for a team that lost 103 games last year? I don't think anyone on the roster, in the FO or on this board envisioned the twins/Indians series in mid June carrying any real significance. Did you?

Hey, I bet the Indians and Twins to win the Series. So, yes, I saw it coming!

Hmmm, not sure how you justify that statement. He looked serviceable enough through 6 starts.

He gave up four or more ER in four his first six starts.  He only got through 5 complete innings three times.   His ERA after 5 starts was over 5.00.

And he's been bad all but his first year with us.

Should I ask where you found this? Or why?

Where? The Internet, if I recall correctly. It's been a while though.

Why? Once in a while you need a visual illustration of the word "defenseless".

Joe now has 7 Ks in 11 ABs

Just wow. He is not seeing it lately, especially after a hot 6 weeks or so.

Is something physically wrong?

Bullpen.

Nailed it on Hughes. Thats exactly what should have been done. They were desperate for swing man. They Rule 5'd a guy for that purpose.

It's not a hindsight is 20/20 situation, either. Many were calling for that towards the end of ST, when he couldn't top 88 mph.

And after 6 it was 4.32. That's WAY better than Gibson's after 6 starts. By like 3-4 runs.

Many have been calling for that for years.

Gibson being the barometer should tell you something.

but it''s cherry picking.  You bring up his first six starts, (where he gave up four or more ERA half the time) and you discard his last three completely. :-)

You might miss Encarnacion hit one out of the stadium. That's worth the price of admission.

I saw the first one, I doubt very much I'd enjoy the sequel

The thing that's ignored in this scenario, also, is the eye test...luck factor...whatever you want to call it.

It was like watching a slow pitch softball game when Hughes was on the mound. He scraped by with a 5 ERA by the grace of God.

I'm not discarding them. The post I replied to said that it was OBVIOUS that Hughes should not have been in the rotation to start the season. He had a serviceable first month. So, how exactly was it obvious?

PS: You have yet to respond to the rest of the post. What was the alternative?

ugh.  at the end of the first month, his ERA was over 5.00 while only going an average of 5 innings..I'm done with this debate, it was fun, thanks.
