I just know what scouts have told me. The one who saw him this weekend said his stuff was tremendous but raw.

That's true but I have a feeling once teams find out about the bong incident they will stay away

Still have my money on Wright

I hope you're right. He's going to be a stud. I also think the 2 way guys might be a little overrated.

Still have my money on Wright

I've liked Wright from the beginning, I liked him better than Faedo prior to the season. The thing with him right now is he reminds me a lot of Gausman in the 2012 draft. More of a #2 upside. I still like Greene better

Wright was my guy going into the season, but he really got off to a bad start. I guess I'd like to know the 'why' of that before I plunk down the first overall pick on him.  McKay, on the other hand, also has major league stuff. I get the concern with overrated 2 way players, and that's even more true if there's no desire to let him be a two way player, but unlike Wright, McKay has been very consistent, which I tend to expect from a guy with major league stuff playing against guys who will not likely make it.

I am still on Greene.  Do not always like the possibility of a swing and miss, but he could be a one in 10 year type of talent.  Will not be happy if the Twins do not draft him.

McKay seems the most logical choice - top talent, college, safe, pitcher, fits a need, left-handed, quick to majors and might be a touch cheaper than Greene.  And with all the HS arms in this draft, the Twins might pick up a high upside HS arm at 35/37.

This is the route I think I prefer. Wright or McKay #1, followed by at least one upside hs arm at 35/37.

LaVelle said on kfan Friday that his sources suggest that McKay is almost a lock at this point.

Did he get nominated for the preposterous statement tournament? Cause suggesting it's a lock a month out is definitely a preposterous statement.

Yeah I wouldn't lock in McKay yet. I like him, and I think we sometimes unfairly paint him as a "safe" guy without giving credit for the upside as a pitcher. He's got the highest k/9 of anyone in the SEC or ACC, and its trended up nicely from his sophomore year. Unlike Wright who's k-rate is unchanged from last year.

I know Wright fits the more conventional profile of a projection guy, he's an inch taller, high waisted, higher max velo (by a tick), but from a results perspective its hard to convince me his career will have a more meteoric rise than the "safe" guy McKay. McKay could easily have the higher floor and ceiling IMO.

But the guy I really hope they feel good about- either drafting or passing on, is Addell. To me he looks like he could be really special.

From KLAW's chat on Thursday for you Rooker fans:

Chris: Is B. Rooker a real prospect or just a corner guy with some power? He seems like someone who could make his way to the sandwich round maybe even higher if he keep this up. What do you think about him?

Keith Law: I’m told he’s a DH with power, and while he might go that high the vast majority of people I’ve asked have him nowhere near there – nobody told me he belonged on my top 50, for example. He’s 22.5 and most of the pitchers he’s facing are younger than he is, some as much as 3+ years younger.

Posting this for the last part.....

Bob: If for some reason Greene and McKay are gone – would you go with Beck at 3, what I have read, high upside – and use the savings to get a guy at top of second

Keith Law: Nope. Would take Wright there. Not sold that there will be enough quality prep prospects at the top of the second to justify taking a lesser player at pick 3 (or 4 or 5).

He didn't say it was a lock. He said almost a lock, which would imply some wiggle room if something changes.

I'm not a huge fan of LaVelles writing, but the guy is usually pretty locked in with the organization.

Personally I'm hoping he's wrong, because I want Greene. But when LaVelle says that as quickly and confidently as he did, then unfortunately, I tend to think he's right.

Well the Twins do have an excellent history with "safe" and "quick to the majors" college arms.

I hope this DH only stuff is widely believed and totally BS.

I have a hard time believing that a guy who is capable of stealing 17 bases is incapable of playing even a corner spot.

12:08 Could Kyle Wright go in the top two, or is he still behind McKay and Greene?

Eric A Longenhagen
12:09 I think there's an argument for it. If you don't like either of Greene's breaking balls or prefer Wright's 92-95 to McKay's 90-93, I think that's reasonable.

12:31 Where would you rank Greene and McKay on the top 100?

Eric A Longenhagen
12:32 Polishing up the draft board this week and those guys are hovering at 55/60 FVs right now.
12:33 So, 60s would be top 20 in baseball at the moment
and the 55s range from like 20-70

1:07 I've seen lots of talk about Hunter Greene's secondary pitches lately. Are they any better or worse than those of other recent prep RHP like Kolek & Pint?

Eric A Longenhagen
1:08 Both Kolek and Pint had better primary breaking balls than Greene does but they can't touch Greene's command projection.

Anthony
1:09 Your choice only (not necessarily industry consensus): do you take Wright or McKay if you want a college pitcher?

Eric A Longenhagen
1:10 I've been stewing over this in my quietest moments for the last three days. I still don't know. I love McKay's command, think Wright has better stuff.

Seth Romero kicked off UH baseball team for starting an altercation yesterday. This comes after he was suspended a month ago for failing a drug test, violating curfew and a picture circulated of him with a bong in his uniform.

The Red Flag has been waved.

Sad. Kid could have had a really nice payday. How far will he fall I wonder?

I would think some team will take a flyer on the talent with a pick in the 2nd or sandwich rounds. Delvin Perez failed a drug test for a legitimate PED which made him fall to 23 last year, though that is not the same as an already 21 year old with some serious maturity issues. It's risky.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Very good potential as a pitcher, but obviously huge glaring discipline and conditioning issues. You just have to decide what round is appropriate.

I wouldn't draft Romero, period. I don't think any particular thing - even being kicked off his team - makes him undraftable per se. However, the timing is so self-destructive that it goes way, way beyond immaturity or discipline issues or anything like that.

Whoever drafts him should make psychiatric treatment a mandatory condition.

I saw this coming for a while. He's been a head case since last year and the coaching staff put up with it because he has first round talent. This was the last straw for them. I hope the kid can get his act together

Drug test?  In College? That sounds really weird.  College cannot test students for drugs by any means of the imagination...
