Hicks has 14 walks and 52 at bats. That's over 20%. He also has a HR in every 10.02/at bats

I'll take a stab at it.

 

First part, not so much that it's about Murphy, more that it turned into strictly a discussion/update thread about Hicks, thus the move to the general baseball forum for talk about other teams and their players.

 

Second part, most discussion surrounding Berrios also involves the accompanying changes to personnel on the major league roster.

I don't think I have a written word in this thread. I have only posted silly pictures.

 

Hicks was definitely a change of scenery candidate. His tenure as a Twin was marred by his own immature decisions (abandoning switch hitting) and I think the Twins really didn't handle him correctly. I can't specifically point out one thing, I'll just hang the blame on old school baseball mentality with Gardenhire and the FO.

 

I wanted big things for Hicks as a Twin and I still do as a Yankee. He has not played in a full time capacity this season, just short of that, but so far the results are impressive.

 

It's possible he tanks, but it is possible he is figuring out some stuff and if he has, I credit that to the change of scenery and fresh new start.

 

Maybe, just maybe, as a Twins fan, Hicks can be our poor man's David Ortiz replacement that we can piss and moan about.

Danny Santana had a monster season off infield and bunt hits. Sometimes it takes teams a while to figure out the other teams hitters. When the sample size gets large enough they will trust the numbers.

Fortunately for hitters, the vast majority of pitchers can't hit their spot perfectly every time.

 

I don't think Hicks is going to OPS over 1.100 all season, but I do think it's likely it finally clicked for him.

Let's not forget he was a fairly highly regarded prospect.

No doubt. His upside always was huge. He was pretty raw coming out of High School, and his development took longer than some others.

4 for 5 3 run, 3 RBI and his 6th BOMB of the season. Ops back over 1.170, .355 batting average.

 

Kid is legit, and on fire. Yankees have themselves someone real special potentially, and at the very least a 3-3.5 20 HR gold glove type at worst.

Also hicks has an excellent eye "pitch down" to him as a strategy is all fine and dandy, but the Margin for error isn't very high.
