Some landing spots for Dozier?

Dbacks are interesting...

I think that the Braves and the Yankees might also be players and I know for a fact that the Phillies are interested.

Here is an intriguing possibility and might make a win-win situation:

We have two AL Central teams that both are supposedly asking sky high prices for their best assets, and these players would fit the other team's needs to a tee:

I'd love to see Falvey do some magic and get Chris Sale (who is for sale) from the White Sox for Dozier plus any pitcher in the organization, plus everyone in the organization who is not on the 40 man roster.

Bit outside the box thinking here, hope y'all don't mind ;)

I don't know, the Dodgers fit is just so much better from both teams' perspectives than the Angels or the Diamondbacks. Yankees I could also see. Braves just don't seem close enough to contending yet.

Do you think the Yankees would give up one of Torres or Mateo, and maybe Sheffield or failing that, Kaprielian.

I could see a 3 way trade to make things work too... but seriously, I don't get the fascination with bats in this article. They have to walk away with one high ceiling major league ready arm, and I'd want at least one more high ceiling arm in the minors too.  You can never have enough of those. If that isn't enough, by all means get the bat..

Between Gleyber, Didi and Starlin Castro I don't know if I see them adding any more middle infield guys.

Because arms are also the riskiest, and the Twins do still have a hole in the outfield.

Where exactly?

Palka-Buxton-Kepler-Rosario-Granite

sounds pretty good to me as a win in 2 years OF for 2017

Palka, Granite and Rosario are not starting-caliber outfielders on a division-winning team.

So are you claiming that one of them cannot top the .249/.312/.361 line of Dan Gladden's of the 1987 Twins?

I'd peg Palka to top Brunansky's .259 /.352/.489 line in that team...

I'd beg to differ there.  They may not be now, but they certainly have the potential.  Not to mention that finding a FA corner OF bat isn't that hard to do if something doesn't work out. Finding a shutdown pitcher on the other hand...

Ehh, jury is still out on Gleyber, but if they are pretty sure he can play SS, then Dozier would be a huge upgrade on Castro, and a pretty big one on Didi as well.  So trade Mateo + pitching for Dozier, put Dozier at 2B and Didi at SS until Gleybar is ready. Catro is your utility guy. Castro has been worth 1.8/1.9 WAR total (depending on BR or fangraphs) his last two FULL years. He's not a starting caliber player anymore.

Could the twins get Ray and Bradley? That would be a really good start for a Dozier trade

I don't think you can get two MLB arms.

Would be happy with Bradley though. (Ray too)

Love it. I also like the take that the Twins should target a position player in a trade.

I'd wonder if the Twins could coax better prospects out of the Dodgers if they take Puig and his salary. I still believe Puig has tremendous upside and would give the Twins a real personality alongside Sano while providing for an absolutely elite outfield defensive alignment of Kepler/Rosario-Buxton-Puig.

A Dozier trade, if it happens, would be a major test of the new regime. We'll see how things go next week ...

The Dodgers almost makes too much sense. I agree to seek out other options and play up keeping BD in the media, but this is an ideal match.

Bollinger, one of the top pitchers ML ready and another lower level prospect would be fine with me. It's one thing to hoot for the moon and another to capture it. I also think Santiago makes sense to be included here, though I wouldn't be adverse to maybe a relief arm of AA SP included.

But I had this crazy notion last night of all 3 traded and go ahead and toss Puig in the deal as well. Twins trade 3 and come away with 4 or 5 in a good old fashioned blockbuster of sorts. Both teams are inexpensive payroll wise by doing this, the Dodgers rid themselves of a headache, Puig gets a fresh start, and the Twins end up with a not too expensive reclamation project of sorts that could pay off big.

Doc, as my father-in-law used to say, "It's better to shoot for the moon and miss than it is to shout at a skunk and connect." Like your idea.

I'm not the biggest Rosario fan but he could be a starting caliber OF on a good team.  I agree with Sickels that, unless he changes his BB/K approach, 2015 is his high water mark but I think he can move the needle a little on both.  He also has the ability to be a pretty good defender and base runner.  I'm not quite ready to give up on him but I'm also ok if they try and upgrade and make him play his way back into the regular line-up.  And he should never face LH pitching again.

While I agree the Twins OF is far from a sure thing, it's not difficult to acquire corner outfielders on the free agent market.

Pitching, on the other hand...

Agreed, there are more usable corner OF bats on the market than there are spots for them.

It's probably going to cost peanuts to get a decent glove like Colby Rasmus and if you're looking for a bat Brandon Moss or Matt Joyce are likely going to be quite cheap. And those are bottom-basement 4th tier options.

I would be fine with getting Puig if he wasn't the headliner.

Yeah, you can find them on the market -- and pay them market rate. Unless you're signing someone like Heyward, you're stuck with the Willinghams of the world.

Joyce signed a reasonable deal today. Mashes righties. If this team is more reliant on platoons moving forward -- i.e. Castro-Murphy -- then I'm more apt to listen.

Yeah I came back here after the Joyce signing. I like the deal though he's kind of wrong handed considering the Twins currently have Rosario and Kepler looking for at bats at the corners.

Maybe Ryan Raburn, he always crushes lefties, he'd make for a nice platoon for the young left handers.

Edit: Falvey would also know him from Cleveland where he had two really nice years platooning. (Also close your eyes and pretend not to see the numbers for his second season in Cleveland)

Also, what was Colorado doing with him last year? They had more left handed OF then they knew what to do with, why was he batting against righties so often? Surely they understood that his success in Cleveland was due to hitting against opposite handed pitching? That organization is in the stone age too.
