Some landing spots for Dozier?

I would be fine with getting Puig if he wasn't the headliner.

I agree with that. You'd think the Dodgers would be fine unloading him - and perhaps the Twins would be able to get some sort of additional return for taking on the contract.

I think it'd be a worthwhile gamble on the Twins' part. But I agree he'd have to be a secondary piece.

Oh absolutely. It's the perfect time to buy in on his talent and they have too many outfielders.

IMO, Sale isn't the kind of guy we should target.  We'd only have him for three years then he'd be gone. I don't want to bet on us being competitive during that time  and that's what we'd be doing with a trade like that.

While I agree the Twins OF is far from a sure thing, it's not difficult to acquire corner outfielders on the free agent market.

Pitching, on the other hand...

Copy Cat

I'd beg to differ there.  They may not be now, but they certainly have the potential.  Not to mention that finding a FA corner OF bat isn't that hard to do if something doesn't work out. Finding a shutdown pitcher on the other hand...

If the Dodgers had a top shelf catcher near ML ready, you could potentially deal both ESan and Dozier their way.  Wouldn't be a bad option, especially if that somehow coaxed them out of Urias and De Leon.

I think Sale makes the rest of the rotation set up as the Twins would finally have an Ace at the top of the rotation that everyone else could work off of.
By then the three years of Sale control, maybe you have developed your younger pitchers into something that is ready for the Big leagues. When is the last time the Twins have had a staff Ace that was relatively young, highly competitive and a sure fire number one? Johan Santana circa 2008.
When was the last time the Minnesota Twins were truly a competitive organization, when they had Johan Santana at the top of the rotation. To me Sale is exactly the kind of starting pitcher the Twins need as a staff ACE and I don't really care if they have to overpay to get him.
This franchise is desperate for winning, I don't think Dozier,Berrios or Kepler matter in the grand scheme of winning and it would take that kind of young talent along with Dozier plus probably another pitching staff to even move the needle for the White Sox.

Sale is the type of pitcher they need yes, but Sale alone isn't going to do much to fix this team, and Sale for 3 years means he's gone when it matters. You don't make that type of trade for your best tradable asset... now if they got him for a song, sure, but there's no way that happens.  If Falvey can get creative and get him... awesome, but we need to be targeting upside pitchers with more control... and we need more of them.  Still four more spots to fill after that.

Berrios and Kepler were 2 of our top prospects, and Berrios might be our most important one.

I'm curious what makes you say they don't matter to winning?

I mean if you trade Berrios, we are going to be in a pretty ugly spot pitching wise in 3 years, especially if Jay doesn't work out.

You'd have what, Gonsalves as a 3 hopefully, then hoping Romero and Thorpe both hit their absolute ceiling?

I read somewhere that the MLB is getting on the Dodger's case about not paying their bills.  They want them to start paying off their debts.

I'm not sure what this means for Dozier going to the Dodgers.  As he is cheap, I would think it helps put him ahead of the other options.  However, if this ultimatum is stronger than I suspect it is, they may not be able to sign anybody this year.

MLBtraderumors has some stuff on this....I doubt it makes it harder to trade Dozier there.

Me? I just agree to take back Ethier's deal.....to give them relief.

That's a thought.  Take Ethier (owed 20m counting buy out) to get a better return on Dozier or a second trade?  I think Atlanta did something similar a year or two ago from Arizona although on a smaller scale.  I'm ok with it but we do have 25 years of Pohlad family ownership which suggests that it's a fantasy.
