Go back and watch the 4-2-3 DP the other night in Boston. If any ball, ever, needed to be rifled to home, that was it. It was yet another rainbow. Same on a DP ball from last weekend.

Same for every throw I've seen him make. He hasn't been able to throw hard, even when needed.

At least he's not latterday Knoblauchin' it...

How often have his throws been beat out?

Ugh. The Twins looked like they wanted to reclaim the title of the worst team in baseball.

At least the game was a short 2 hours and 20 minutes.

I'm calling this one the most disappointing loss of the season.

Great outing, complete game by E. Santana.

18 left on base for a shutout on the Twins.

Short is good.

Thanks for doing the thread intro by the way.

Enjoy being at the game!

18? We can leave more than that!

Why, the theoretical max is 27!

7 left on not 18.

Thanks.

Not caring to see the box score, i assume this is the classic conflation of individual lob and team lob?

I suppose the max total individual lob is 81 for 9 innings? so we are even shyer of our potential...

Oh well. Used to disappointment.

Whew, 80 comments. Not a lot of joy in Mudville these days. Good game by Santana. He's certainly built his trade value as much as he could possible hope down the stretch towards Aug 1. However, it seems more and more like Antony isn't going to trade him.

Hmmm, enlighten me.  I'm looking at the MLB.com boxscore from last night.  It says 18 LOB for the Twins, 8 LOB for the Braves.

You're looking at the combined amount of LOB left on for each batter instead of the team total.  For example: If the leadoff guy gets on base and then three outs happen, each of the three batters had one guy LOB (for a total of three), but the team only had one cause there was really only one guy on base.  Hard to leave 18 guys on base when only eight reached base, no? :-)

And here is the MLB Box score

http://m.mlb.com/gameday/braves-vs-twins/2016/07/26/448356?#game=448356,game_state=final,game_tab=box

Look below the box score, under 'Batting'.  At the bottom it says team LOB: 7.  Right above, it lists how the team did with RISP.

Oh crap.  Damn statistics anyhow   :)

Thanks for the info.  Yeah, I was looking at the total under the player stats.   Pretty useless stat then....  RISP of 11.  Ish...

Well, the combined total (in this case 18) yeah it's pretty worthless.  I never use it.  I mean, should a guy really be charged a LOB if he doesn't make a hit that drives a guy home from 1st?  I concern myself more with the team RISP number.

Yeah, numbers tend to mean what they say rather than what you want...

Bu i kinda assumed it was sopphisticated enough not to charge any lob to those who don't get out...

But it still rewards double players for not leaving said runner on.

huh?  sorry,  I don't really understand this post.

If you followed the discussion, the point is, the team (as a whole), had 7 LOB, not 18.  When only 8 guys get on base all game, it's hard for the team to leave 18 on base.

I suppose comparing team lob and sum of individual lob says how long they were left there on average.

If they are equal, no one got on base until there were 2 outs.

If one is 3x the other, everyone got on before any outs (i actually could be wrong on how double plays work... or pick offs and sundry base running events)

Anyway... what, 8 hours until today's rematch?
