Donald Trump supported the Brexit movement which is pretty much disqualifies him from being President - if all the other **** didn't disqualify him for being President. (Not to be outdone, Clinton has been quite on it while her staff prepares a press release).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Lots of things to think about......but it really is about the pending change in how we all make money. There aren't jobs. There won't be jobs. People lower on the education scale, and lower on the income scale....they are mad. And, it is only going to get worse. It will also be worse in the US, since we think guns are a great idea, and our "leaders" have spent 30 years preaching hatred and mocking intelligence. I see grim times ahead, unless the young really turn out and help overcome the fear of change that the older people (and less educated people) have.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I'd give it about a 25% shot that there his political violence soon. Of course, Black Lives Matter is political violence......which is a great irony to me. This is a group basically doing what the right says they will do in the future "when you try to take my guns".....yet they hate BLM.

With all due apologies to Britain, I will be disheartened but relieved if they get a taste of political violence, riots, economic ruin and all kinds of anarchy in short order. Let Americans see what Trump is actually supporting before November comes around.

And while violence might come to Britain, it won't come before November. The only effects we'll see in the short-term will be economic.

Not sure I'd quite call them idiots... they recognize that the EU doesn't have England's best interest in mind, especially with the EU continually being called on to bail out those PIIGS nations, which are going to drag all of Europe down. I wouldn't be surprised if that experiment breaks up all together... the real idiots here are the ones thinking debt can solve the world's economic problems. There's no country big enough to take on Italy when they finally default, and simply inflating currencies to allow for more debt kicks a can down the road that needs to be solved now and continues to enable the very behaviors that led to it in the first place. England recognized this first. I wouldn't be surprised if the Germans in particular are the next to go. They stand to lose the most by this continued insanity. We need to figure that one out in the US sooner than later, b/c once the great European experiment comes to an end, we're next. PS... if you're worried about your portfolio, I'd start looking at the fact that we are at historically ridiculous P/E ratios right now. Stocks are due for a massive drop. We never fixed what went wrong in 2008. I'd advise angling some of your portfolio on ETFs that work opposite the market (BZQ, TWM, etc.). It's coming.

The people voting for Trump are those POd voters who are going to be the first to pick up arms if it comes to that. The problem is that I don't think they are backing someone who can actually help their cause.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 One of the political leaders pushing Brexit just admitted on national tv that one of their promises was a "mistake" and they should not have made it.......a mistake is something you do 1 time, not over and over for months..... And, and elderly interviewee on the radio was saying she was pleased, because she was old and it will help in the short term, but she's not sure it is good for the youth. Man, democracy sucks sometimes....

Man, democracy sucks sometimes....I'd be curious to know how well the youth voted. (I'm sure this is already stated somewhere; I just haven't had time to read any in depth coverage yet.) We always talk about how the youth are the worst in getting out to vote in this country, I wonder if that was the case there.

Badsmerf Verified Member Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 The EU is done for. Germany has nothing to gain by staying in it now. If they leave, there is no EU. Looks like Europe will be ripe for the taking. Who invades them first, US, Russia, China or isis?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Well, found my favorite quote of the day that sums up the situation nicely:"Gold surging is usually a sign that humans are doing something stupid."

If a company was based in Britain this might have an effect on them but I'm not even sure it would be negative. The market will rebound and then some before the end of next week.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I did put money back into one stock this am....but, ya, today that didn't go so well...... The more I think about this, the more I understand it. I don't totally agree with it, but I really get why this happened.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 What's swayed you Mike? Out of curiosity, I don't know how I feel about it.

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I think the odds of Britain leaving are no higher than 1:1. The country got a hard dose of reality the day after and the EU playing hardball over freedom of movement deflates the worst part of the movement.
