Realistic trade deadline moves?

A few moves I would look to make as a GM. Also With this post im not looking at getting or selling all the guys on this list, but this is the list of names I bring up when I make that first call.

Red Soxs________Twins

SP. Santana______Rei

OF. Santana______Lakins

With E. Santana we might get away with the salary dump, mostly cuz it is the Soxs.

Seattle________Twins

Nunez________ Zunino

Sazuki________Altavilla,Yarbrough

Mets__________Twins

Plouffe________ Smoker

Nunez_________ Muzeika

KC__________ Twins

Plouffe_______Strahm

Nunez________Fernandez, O'Hearn

Abad, Grossman, Vargas, Park might be the only real trade worthy pieces. (not counting our future guys)

Unless a contending team as their 2nd baseman go to the DL I don't think you will hear anything worth while for Dozier, and I'm not sold on the idea Polonco can't play SS. But I would take the right deal on Dozier.

Might be able to talk a trade giving up Nunez, Sazuki, and possibly a prospect like Stewart. Once again like I said that would be who I target, and who our current players have the best shot at making a difference to bring back something.

In the post I'm not suggesting that it is a player for player swapping game, but the players I put out are names I start the conversation out at. Others might be had to sweeten the pot.

With Plouffe's latest injury, I suspect the Mets look elsewhere.

I'm not 100% certain what teams need what but it does look like Toronto - in a horse race with Boston and Baltimore - could use a MI and a left handed relief pitcher and the Twins have both of those in Nunez and Abad (their two best trade chips).  Toronto's farm system is a bit bare.

Well, here is my take..  Trade the following:

Plouffe - don't really care the return.  He's a log jam.  I have no issue packaging someone with him to get a better return, but I'm not expecting much here.

Dozier - want a decent return.  Again I have no issue packaging someone to get it, especially if that's a near ML ready catcher.

Abad - TR struck gold here.  Flip him for a C+ guy in the lower minors.

Suzuki - Flip for a C+ guy in the lower minors.  Not that Centeno/Murphy/Garver excite me for 2017, but he's gone after this year and might have some demand.

Boshers - not sure he'd get much, but I'd have no problems dangling him if someone is desperate.

Honestly, the returns (with the exception of BD) won't be that high.  I'd be looking for lower minors guys that have nice ceilings but lots of risk attached.

Realistically, seeing all of these guys gone by Aug 31 isn't reasonable.  It just doesn't happen that often.  There's that whole supply and demand thing and getting the right partners together isn't always workable.  I'd probably listen on Nunez (but would ask a lot) and Grossman if someone was calling, but I'm not sure I'd actively shop either of them.

Of all our possible (realistic) trade chips, Kepler might be our best.  He's coming on strong lately and his OPS+ of 105 isn't too bad for a rookie, even with his early struggles.  I wonder how other teams view him?  He has 6 full years of control and the Twins have a lot of OF depth behind him.  Could they package him to the Rangers for Profar?  Profar's the better player but only has 3 years of team control left, I believe.

Huh??? Who is in the Twins OF depth behind him, because right now I see 2 outfielders of the future, Buxton CF and Kepler RF

Little confused on why all of our players have no trade value.... Do we not understand how baseball works? Somehow Correia has trade value but a allstar year player (Nunez) has none whatsoever!

I've been disappointed in Kepler's defense.  Maybe it's still jitters, but he just doesn't seem to have the arm strength you'd expect from a right fielder.  Of course, I may have a tainted view from seeing Sano's arm out there.

Trades?  Depends on how much confidence you have in the Twins relief pitcher prospects, is one thing.

I'm a "keep" on Nunez.  Need a backup plan if the "promote from the MiLB" is THE plan.

With that backup plan, I'd feel more comfortable trading both Dozier and Plouffe.  There's some value there.  And I'd certainly would be dangling Grossman out there.

I'm a "curious" on Suzuki.  Is the new bat really the reason for his recent offensive surge or a dream?  Is there realistically a catcher in the system that can provide both good offense/defense?

Are the MiLB starters really as good as people say or just a MiLB-style mirage?

I'm on the side of a 2 year plan.  Start selling to get more higher prospects in the lower levels, preferably a 1-2 AA quality.  Start playing some of those AAA stars on a regular basis in the MLB.  Just don't keep playing them all the time and beat them down.  Short term free agent signings, only.

I believe this entire thread is a tease.

The only "realistic" trade deadline moves for Terry Ryan can be summed up with the following word:

None.  (Possibly meh...I'm hoping for meh!)

Ryan's evaluation of a Twins' player >>> Other team's GM evaluation of Twins' player.

Actually I suspect Ryan's evaluations are accurate and the fans views are the unrealistic ones.

Bingo! The fan board favorites vs. fan board scapegoats are silly.

Rosario, Grossman, Sano can all be put in corner OF positions.  And they have lesser prospects like Harrison and Walker in AA/AAA.

I like Kepler a lot but if the Twins want a big trade, he's their chip.  Abad and Nunez might get us a nice return but Kepler would be the centerpiece for any large trade.  Whether or not we want to that would depend on the return.  I'd probably move him if I could get a difference maker back at short or a front of the rotation starter.  Not sure if those trades are possible but that's where you'd start.

Gunn, I would say Polanco. To get back in the hunt asap we can give up Berrios, Gonsalves, Polanco, and Plouffe. I would go with Polanco.

Jorge Polanco is ripping it up at AAA.

.849 OPS.

20 extra base hits in 43 games.

.974 fielding percentage at 2B (he's improving, I think).

He will be 23 years old on July 5.

Trade Dozier on July 4.

This would leave us with a bad team now and with no future to look forward to.    No thanks

That's true. I'm always the low man on Polanco but he's sure been a solid player.

I'm not sure how the rest of the league views him A) he isn't in the majors like Kepler  (who is the better regarded prospect), B ) questions about where he might play and C) depth behind him in our system.  We have a few guys who can play in the corners but Polanco is the only obvious MI we have until Gordon is ready.

When did they go back to "accurate" because they were clearly off-calibration from about November-February?

Unless you have been watching a different team than me this season, Sano can clearly not be "put in a corner OF spot"... in fact the GM appears to agree with me as it sounds unlikely he will spend much more time out there.

If you want to go into 2017 with an OF of Rosario, Buxton, Grossmann... prepare to lose a LOT of games.

FWIW, I liked the Grossman signing, and would continue to play him.  But to act like an OF that includes him and Rosario is stocked enough to trade Kepler is insane

Harrison and Walker are not prospects.  Have you seen Walker try to play OF?
