Why Not Abad?

And for the love of God, bring up Chargois!!!

Mega dittos on this comment.  J.T. has been lights out this season in AAA continuing his streak from 2015 when he was lights out in AA.

I for one am BAFFLED that he hasn't been called up considering how awful the bullpen has been this season.  I mean how much more proof does Ryan need? 10 games at AAA, 11 innings, 0.82 ERA, 19 k's?  Oh yeah he's also racked up 11 innings in AA this season as well with very similar numbers.

For goodness sake call this kid up already!  Jepsen is HORRIBLE!

Why do I get the nagging feeling that the phrase "Service Time" factors into the equation???

Because service time is a very legitimate consideration. Is it really going to make a difference this year if we wait until a service time milestone is passed? If Chargois is the real deal I'd rather have him under team control for a longer time during a time when the Twins are contending.

So are you suggesting wait to call him up until next ~April 20? Because that's the only way to get that extra year of control.  The only service time issue right now is whether the Super 2 Deadline has passed

It's already passed. I suspect Chargois is still in AAA b/c he hasn't been there that long.

With the volatility of relief pitchers, service time shouldn't matter one bit. That's what we heard all off-season long that relievers aren't consistent and they aren't worth a multiple year contract. Let's get Chargois up here while he's having a hot season.

If Chargois is recalled, who is sent out? Rogers, Boshers and Kintzler have performed well in their limited time. Pressly looks like he's found his stride, leaving only May, since Hughes and Jepsen can't be demoted and Abad has been great.

Dean, with May to the rotation would be highly logical.

At some point, you have to consider releasing Jepsen if you really like that many other arms in the pen too.

My ranking by preference to be sent out would be Kintzler, Boshers, Rogers. Kintzler I don't believe has a future on this team beyond this season. Boshers may stay on as AAA depth and injury call-up next season.

I'm still not completely sold on Tonkin, but he can stay put for now.

EDIT: Forgot about Dean too until spycake's post.

I suppose Dean is a logical choice to send out when Gibson returns, although that still leaves you short a starter if Hughes is indeed in the pen. If they send one of Boshers/Rogers out for, say, Milone, I'd rather just start May and call up Chargois.

Personally, I'd just release Jepsen. I know "release player X" is a common unrealistic fan sentiment, but it shouldn't be with Jepsen right now. His value is undeniably negative, and his future here is zero. The only potential benefit to a turnaround at this point would be convincing a desperate team to take on his last month's salary in August (~$1 mil). Not worth it to deny playing time to interesting relievers who could be in our 2017 pen.

I could see them just moving Hughes back into the rotation though too.

Gibson returns tomorrow? They will need room for him in the rotation or move someone out of the bullpen. While getting back to 12 pitchers doesn't appear to be in the cards for a bit, they already are carrying nine relievers if Hughes is counted there. I wonder if they might option May and let him stretch out with the pennant contending Red Wings.

Releasing Jepsen should be a realistic option for this team. John Bonnes brought up in the last Gleeman and the Geek podcast that he hasn't pitched a clean inning since the middle of April... Can't remember the exact date off the top of my head. Opponents have a whopping .981 OPS against him this year..

That's approaching 2015 Tim Stauffer bad. And I loathed seeing Tim Stauffer pitch.

If you swap Dean for Gibson, and leave Hughes in the pen, you still need another starter. Either pulling May from the pen, or dropping a reliever to bring a starter up from AAA.

I hope they don't option May. It shouldn't be hard for a team with 13 pitchers including Hughes in the pen to stretch out a guy at the MLB level -- and you'd start by not using him for a two-pitch appearance like last night...

This season, it isn't working at all for May in the bullpen. He got lit up again tonight. It does make too much sense for him to try again in the rotation. Send him down and stretch him out.
