Twins were on Price's list.

If this was already covered in another post, I apologize. Just heard it while listening to the daily Baseball Prospectus podcast entitled Effectively Wild (Monday's edition). They were making a funny point on Price and a comment he made about wanting to stay in the AL, but had 11 teams on a list that he would like to play for. I think they said 5 of those teams were NL teams, but one of the teams on that list? The Twins. Yes, the Twins.

Absent teams on that list included the Yankees, Astros and Angels. Three of those teams were teams he has already played for (Rays, Jays and Tigers). Royals were also on the list.

I know we never would have even sniffed signing Price, but it's just interesting the Twins would even make the list. It's kind of cool a SP of his caliber would want to come play in Minnesota. Just something interesting that I figured others would want to know.

Back to just hoping we sign someone like Sipp, lol.

Hmm, that is interesting I could have sworn I have read numerous arguments stating to the effect: "it's not even about money, a big name FA will never want to play in Minnesota anyways"

Why not Price? After all, it is publicized and well documented now that - according to what I have been told right here on these boards by several who claim to personally know - that arguably one of the most honest men on earth says that there are no restrictions on the Twins' budget.

Not surprising to me since Price's favorite ballpark to pitch in is Target Field. He has said that for years now.

Even said it in a chat:

Well, thing is, if he pitched in TF for us he wouldn't be able to face our lineup. For his career, he has faced 10 teams 10 or more times and of those 10 teams, his best ERA (for those who like that stat, couldn't find the info in FIP) is against the Twins. :-)

In fact, he owns the ALC.

So? Doesn't change the fact that he likes to pitch in TF and has given other reasons besides getting to face the Twins. Could he just be being polite? I guess, but it doesn't seem to be necessary to lie and come up with fake reasons.

These no trade lists don't mean much to me.

They are used for leverage primarily.

It usually isn't because they like a team or a park or location.  Sometimes it is but usually it's about leverage.

That's why you see the big money teams listed on no trade lists. It's because they can milk more money out of them to take them off the list.

I am guessing it was calculated. He probably had someone look at what teams would likely or likely be competitive in the next 5+ years, teams that might be more stable, pitch vs hitter parks, and potential defense. Just speculation, but these seem like the type of things a pitcher would look at...outside of money.

The Twins should be competitive the next several years, they have a pitchers ballpark, should have decent defense, and look to be stable in general.
