Five teams for two spots--one of Texas, Houston, or the Angels will win the West.

Here's today's scoreboard--Angels  3  Houston 0   first inning

Texas-Oakland later

Twins Cleveland 0-0 bottom of the first.

Liam Hendricks gives up an 8th inning solo homer to Carlos Beltran. The Yankees take the 3-2 into the bottom of the 9th with Betances on the mound- in the critical series if the Yankees hope to catch the Jays.

Angels score one in the eighth to go up , 4-2.  Astros threatening in the bottom of the eighth 2-on one out.

Athletics up 3-1 on the Rangers in the early going.

So much more fun to scoreboard watch when it can at least put us in game 163 position.  About two weeks back when the Rangers refused to lose it was fun, hopefully we can turn this into a long winning streak and be back in that position in 2 or three nights.  It all comes down to the Twins at this point, with 2 spots in play no team can run away with it.

Street K's Gattis.

4-3 Angels your final.

Two games back.

Wild win in OT.  Lynx win.  Twins win. Vikings don't have a game scheduled.  MINNESOTA:  WINNERSVILLE BABY!!1!

Stros lose! Twins two games back.

Also: rangers down 4-1 so far, if they lose they are still only one game up on the stros (and 3 games up on the twins)

Just need the Twins to finish strong and one of those two to choke a little bit.

everyday a Viking doesn't get arrested or injuried is a win!

This is why I think a Twins sweep would be so freaking important, a Twins sweep would basically more or less end the Indians chances at a playoff berth, which means that playing them next Mon-Wed could be a tad easier then if they were still "in it" Our last 9 games could be against teams with nothing major to play for, they will all be playing hard, but won't be as aggressive to win a game as much as if they were still in a "race"

Four game series in Cleveland before returning home to face KC for three. Agree that Cleveland would be out with a sweep this week.

Ten games I mean! Detroit has nothing to play for as well.

Angels-Astros matinee going on now.  It is the top of the ninth and the Angels lead 6-4. A win for LA puts them in a tie with the Twins, and leaves Houston only a game and a half ahead.

Edit:  Game Over. Angels win 6-5.  The Twins are indeed 1.5 out of the wild card and again tied in the loss column. Angels in a virtual tie have played two more games, one win and one loss.

Here's a look at the schedules of the teams in the hunt for the wild card and Western Division:

Texas:  At Oakland tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Next at Astros for the weekend, then three at home with Detroit followed by four against the LA Angels.

Houston:  Off tomorrow, then play Texas at home for three, then on the road at Seattle for three and at Arizona for three to close out the season.

Angels: Home for three with the Mariners, then home for three with the Athletics, finish the season on the road for four at Texas.

I think I am becoming a big Texas Rangers fan! Unless they are swept by the Astros, they will go home in first place against a last-place Tigers team, then face off against the Angels.

I think the Astros are in trouble. They only have three more home games and they are 15 below .500 on the road. If they aren't leading after the Texas series, I think the Twins can catch them.

They always did.

I mean technically now they do without a doubt. They have the same number of losses as Houston and everyone else behind them has more losses

I think it's time for scoreboard watchers to be a Mariners fan - they can put a dent in a couple teams' post season hopes.

That Hou - Tex series is the one that has the biggest chance to decide the playoff teams from the West.

I would pull for Texas in that series, I wouldn't count on Arizona providing much resistance against Houston to close out the year.

Mariners are such a hot and cold team that they can beat anyone. If their bullpen was league average they likely would be contending for the West Division.

I was at the last game of the season the year the Rockies went to the World Series (2007 I think?) when the Rockies had to win and the Padres had to lose to force a one game playoff. I remember the random cheers in the middle of an at bat when something on the scoreboard changed. It was a nice fall day at Coors Field and where we were sitting you had a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance - it was so fun and I'm not even a Rockies fan!

They always did.

Glinda: You don't need to be helped any longer. You've always had the power to go back to Kansas.

Dorothy: I have?

Scarecrow: Then why didn't you tell her before?

Glinda: Because she wouldn't have believed me. She had to learn it for herself.

Monday September 28:

Texas down 7-1 in the 7th to Detroit.

Houston up 2-1 to Seattle in the second.

Angels down 1-0 against Oakland in the second.

Twins 81-75, trail the Angels by half a game and Houston by a full game at this moment. Behind one game in the loss column to both.

Former Twin Danny Valencia is playing at third for the As tonight and just caught a bullet and doubled the runner off first.  It's fun to root for Valencia again.  I would like to see him hit 3 home runs tonight.
