notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Pulled for Casey Fien. hrm.Even though he pitched a shutout inning this move is inexcusable. If you're going to take DeVries out it should have been for Burton or Perkins. This was like bringing Bass into one run game after one run game.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 And bases loaded, and Gardenhire is going to let Swarzak sweat it out.

CDog Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Blame Dozier...but that was an 0-2 pitch from Perkins that Young just doubled on to tie the game. Completely unacceptable. Not really a correction since I'm sure it was just a "typo," but it was a single. But more so, I wanted to use that comment to segue to something about the larger point... In between some of the ridiculous stuff Mitch Williams said last night (there's a whole thread on that), was something that caught my interest. He talked about there being more 0-2 hits (and I think he added that many were extra-base/home runs) than he could ever remember and thought it was at least partially due to the pitch count. In other words, pitchers trying to get through batters on fewer pitches were more likely to "give in" and throw something hittable 0-2 to avoid throwing extra pitches. Part of why I found it interesting is because it's not really something that can be checked (at least not the motivation part), so in that sense it was at least thought provoking. Basically I'm distracting myself from watching the game as intently as I had been because it's stressing me out, so I figured I'd do some typing. Feel free to ignore or discuss.

Top Gun Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Twins lose, infield practice in the morning!
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Twins should have won this. I blame Gardenhire for leaving Perkins in for too long.
greengoblinrulz Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Its not because of this...but when you arent trying to win, you dont win. What do I mean. Its more important to Gardy to rest Burton than pitch him in the 8th. This happenned in DET with the lead & Burnett lost the game. Happenned tonight & tho Fien pitched a great 8th, its still the mindset. 2 games that were lost on this trip in games gardy didnt do everything he could to win it. Team got what they deserve

Gardy lost this game before it started with that attitude.

Again, when it can be disputed with numbers....makes ya look like an idiot.
CDog Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Those numbers were strictly 'on' 0-2.After I asked, I sorta figured based on just how bad they were. So much for figuring out the motives since the crime appears not to have happened!
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Disappointing loss, but at least De Vries looked good. The defense let em down tonight.
greengoblinrulz Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Personally I dont blame Dozier one bit for the loss. Twins led 3-1 with 1 out & nobody on with their current/future closer out there. I get the whole 4 outs thing, but a pitcher cannot give up unearned runs without takin blame either (unless the error directly affected the run). Pitchers need to man up too.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I don't get blaming Gardenhire for this loss. At all. He had the right pitcher in the game, at the right time. The pitcher didn't get the job done. That ain't on Gardy. Maybe I'm old school, but in my day, a pitcher used to get fined for giving up hard contact on 0-2, much less a hit.

Ya win some ya lose some. This was a rough first half no doubt, but there have been some positives to take away: Plouffe, Mauer, Willingham, Doumit, Span, Revere have all been producing very well, Morneau is at least healthy and Dozier well, shows flashes here and there. The bullpen has been very good all season and the rotation, while a mess has produced some bright spots at points Diamond, Liriano, Walters are 3 guys if chosen to could be a decent set up to a 2013 rotation (3,4,5) still need a 1,2 but its getting better. Also since May 27th the Twins have had a 21-16 record, 17-12 since Jun 2nd so there is some hope they can finish with 75 or so wins, which is far from great but something to build on heading into 2013.

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Ugh. I can't believe they lost that game. I checked in on my phone in the ninth, saw, they had a lead, and went to sleep. Probably for the best.
DPJ Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I'm shocked Gardy hasn't lost his mind over Dozier's glove and lack of hitting. Maybe he's just doesn't care anymore, but Bartlett would be sent back to A-ball if he played as ****ty as Doz has.
