IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Inning would be over if it weren't for Dozier. That's doesn't excuse Perkins. Yes, those last two runs are "unearned," but Perkins can't blame anybody for them but himself.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Blame Dozier...but that was an 0-2 pitch from Perkins that Young just doubled on to tie the game. Completely unacceptable.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Both runs should be unearned, it doesn't matter if the pitcher is the one who committed the error. Dozier should have been the first out, Carroll struck out for out number 2 and Span flew out. No runs should have scored. ESPN has them both as unearned FWIWI just checked the rulebook. You are correct. My bad.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Unbelievable. Texas took out Nathan with good reason, then the Twins leave Perkins in.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Gardenhire seems determined to lose the game in the 9th then go home.

Two solid hits, and two hits off pretty good pitches. That happens, but he shouldn't have had to get 4 outs, and the fact that Dozier's error was a two base error wasn't insignificant either.
mikeee Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 We should be celebrating a De Vries shutout about now....
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 The real loser here is Cole DeVries. He deserved a W tonight, and the Twins couldn't hold it.

ashbury Verified Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Do you miss me???? Matt CappsI have been in favor of trading Capps, because he's a tradeable commodity, not because I want Perkins closing.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Do you miss me???? Matt Capps Do you miss me???? Joe Nathan.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 It seems to me that Perkins has been asked to pitch a lot of inning lately. And I don't understand why Gardenhire left him in the game so long, especially with the All-Star break starting tomorrow.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Do you miss me???? Joe Nathan.Yes, often, but you got what you wanted.

And I don't understand why Gardenhire left him in the game so long, especially with the All-Star break starting tomorrow.Gardy's always been like that - he lets the "closer" get the job done or blow it completely - no half-way measures. In all fairness, most managers do the same thing. Closers are supposed to be your most reliable people in those situations - they're supposed to be able to pitch their way out of trouble. Perk did pitch 4 days in a row, but he had 2 days off after that, and this was only his 2nd game in 5 days. He should have been rested.
Top Gun Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Too many games for Perkins, even the big closers get hit. Dozier should be sent down for a break take a look at someone else.

I like the Washington approach better, assuming that the goal is to go into the All-Star break with a win.
mikeee Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 They should have given perkins a rest and let devries pitch!!!!!!!
Top Gun Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Gardy should know D wins games you can give 4 outs.

If the end up losing this, they're going to spend the next 4 days kicking themselves.

Dozier for the boot, Perkins for giving up the extra runs, including 2 hits on 0-2 pitches.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Just went back and checked my box scores. Burton pitched the last two nights; he is probably unavailable.

IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I think we've found the problem - they're wearing the wrong caps! Didn't they change back over to the "M" caps earlier this year?
