He said pitchers, not belly-itchers.

But seriously, and I know I'm a violator myself, can we please keep the signal-to-noise ratio higher, and on the subject of the given thread? "Can Meyer help the pen?"

Seems to me that examples of tall pitchers who developed their control late are relevant as to whether 6'9" Alex Meyer can "help the pen?"

If it's not relevant, then I made a mistake, and I will take my punishment.

Aw geez, I'm sorry, you're right, they are tall pitchers. It's getting too late for these old eyes. Previous post recanted - I'll leave it to the person you were responding to to determine if they are relevant to his question concerning control. Good night. :)

PS, see signature-line below.

So, you think he would help the pen. Ok.  So are you saying Twins leadership is making a mistake by not having him in the pen right now?

Snubbing to motivate. The Bobby Knight school of motivation. Kind of like bullying. I, for one, am not a fan of it.

How is not promoting somebody at their job akin to bullying?

I am saying that the statement "if he hasn't developed the control necessary...he never will" is an opinion with which I vehemently disagree. I think he is worth a look NOW, later and much later, because of the precedent frequency of late developing big kids as pitchers, football players and basketball players.

Back to the question at hand: yes he could help out the pen. I would have more faith in him then Achter at this point (who has pitched twice this week) so there is definitely room.

There really isn't any reason to have faith Meyer could help, but he should still be up. Maybe he'd have a chance or two to wipe the ugly test of his first call-up aside.

I wonder if the Twins are holding him out to avoid another confidence shattering beat down in the big leagues.

I fail to see how having Alex Meyer could possibly hurt, given recent outcomes.  Best case, he gets to pitch in some low-pressure situations.  Second-best case, the rest of the pen pitches great and he doesn't get in a game.  If the pen doesn't pitch great, and forgive me if I think that's a real possibility, at least he's an option.

Meyer has no one to blame but himself for not getting the call up. If thats bullying then I'll be the next pope.
