Tigers Selling

So, apparently the Tigers are listening to offers on their possible free agents, including David Price and Soria.  Obviously, both of these guys would be Rentals for the Twins, but I think they would be enough to boost the Twins to the playoffs this year while not blocking prospects later on.

The Tigers won't resign them.

Their owner is old as dirt and wouldn't want to wait for compensation picks to develop.

An inter-division trade isn't a big deal knowing that Price would not resign with the Twins.

What would you give up?  The Tigers gave up a good but not great CF, a good but not great LHP and a single A SS for 1.5 years of Price.  They would probably accept a slightly smaller return for him now.

Would you do Rosario, Stewart, Niko Goodrum for Price and Soria.  Would you thrown in Alex Meyer?  I'd be awfully tempted to.

that's not enough, imo. Price alone will bring back 1 prospect better than anyone in that list.

I would not go after Price.  He is a free agent to be and there is probably about a 0% chance the Twins would resign him.  Why help re-build the Tigers for 2 months of Price?  Where this team is right now, it just wouldn't make sense for a rental.

Probably, but the Tigers didn't give up any prospect better than what was on that list.

Even if that gets teh Twins into the playoffs this year?

The Tigers are 3 games out of the Wild Card. Does this tell us that Dombrowski feels his team needs prospects fast to avoid a 5 year downturn once V Martinez, Verlander, and Cabrera start to decline?

I would jump for joy if the Twins landed Soria and Price. I really hope the Twins do not include Rosario in any trades.

Getting Price would be no means guaranteed playoffs this year.  Even if it did would that be worth losing Rosario and Stewert? (which i think would be the Tigers selling extremely low)  I say no way, especially to Detroit.

Why would they do a big trade giving up a bunch of young talent for a ONE and DONE playoff run?

I'd be livid if they did this.

Not to be the wet blanket, but the Tigers are never going to trade within the division mid-season.

Plus I don't think the package of Price & Soria would get the Twins into the playoffs.

I'm surprised they are selling too, but I'm curious how it will all shake out by the deadline. They did have seven free agents coming into the deadline, would be interesting if they move almost all of them.

I still think they are saddled with some less than favorable contracts going forward and this is going to be a massive talent drain.

That would do a lot to turn the franchise around in a much smaller time period. If they're going to sell Price, they should try to sell everyone who is going to be off the roster within 16 months.

Well, they just got a prospect back as good or better than Berrios, oh, and they just freed up $20MM. It is likely, as long as this owner is alive, that THEY will re-invest that money in an elite player, imo.

While true, the main core of this team is aging, I would personally have gone for it this year and the money would still be freed up after the season.

I'm not sure I know what I'd do if I was them. It really depends on how they feel about the big man's injury. to me, this indicates they are less optimistic than we are led to believe.

Tigers are strengthening themselves for the future and can add back this winter. Good moves on their part. I was hoping they would stick with Price this year. I hate to see them get that young starter but I am glad it wasn't Berrios.

This is a great point I hadn't considered. Took the timetable at face value.

Wouldn't be surprised if they more or less shut him down for the year.
