Soft team

The twins lose a tough 10th inning game and proceed to spend their next 16 innings getting out scored 21-1. Plenty of terrible pitching, defense and hitting to go around!

This team is way too soft, where is that veteran leadership from Hunter we all heard about!?!?

More and more proof that Molitor just isn't the answer. This sort of performance can't be accepted, terrible at bats, tons of stupid mistakes in the field and pitchers looking dumb founded in the mound.

Gardy had some lean years towards the end, but he never would have been fine with a performance like the twins have shown the last 2 games.

The last few years of Twins Baseball was best watched with a Benny Hill soundtrack - what the hell are you talking about?

Not as bad as tonight. Mental mistakes all around, the team looked defeated from the first pitch.

Nah,  this team looked plenty as bad as this and worse under Gardy the last couple of years.

Come on, ya'll... it's a long season. They've had other stretches. So has every team. It's baseball. They've overcome a lot of tough losses already this year. They've shown a lot in coming back from deficits.

No reason to overreact and call names.

They have played 4 games in the past 10 days, it's really not to much to ask that they actually show up a little prepared for a game.

They are simply a soft team overall if they come out flat like this in the middle of a playoff race. Not all of them, just enough of them. I would bench Rosario and Escobar tomorrow for sure, Rosario just for one game (those throws and at bats...come on) and Escobar for quite some time.

I'm not bailing on them by any means but they have looked very uninspired and undisciplined since that loss. They need to pull  it together starting tomorrow.

It's natural for a tough loss to effect a team, especially a young team.  They do need to get it back on track.

Calling for Molitor's firing?  Just...wow.

Yes I agree,  I think that's what happened and they need to suck it up and refocus. Hopefully that's the message Mollie is sending and he calms them down.

I'm not calling for him to be fired, c'mon now.,

I'm not seeing much evidence lately of the super baseball IQ Molitor has. It will be fun to see how the Twins respond. They are still in the drivers seat for the wild card game.

Molitor absolutely needed to have Perkins pitch 2 innings on Friday in that 10 inning loss. He's not being overused. Perkins hasn't had an opportunity to pitch since. He is rested if we need him 2 innings tomorrow night. Maybe the Twins have a private handshake with Perk we don't know about.

100x this.

Glad they saved Perkins so he could not throw an inning the follow 3 days.

Twins are just a bad road team, they need to find a way to turn that around or say good bye to the playoffs.  A lot more road games coming up.

I'm more questioning using May in a blowout, rather than a tie game in extras, and using O'Rourke for mulitple innings tonight.  He's been effective as a LOOGY, but prolly not available tomorrow, when he might have proven useful in a close game.

After Boyer let the game get out of hand tonight, let him finish the GD thing.  Or at least 2 innings pitched.

Yeah agreed, not sure how Mollie figured the damage wasn't already done down 7-0. Boyer just emptied the bases so let him finish the mess.

Hell, I'd have supported Boyer staying in just out of hope the Angels pound him into a DFA.

I think an argument can be made Iannetta should have accomplished that.

When they are winning, it is ok to say Hunter is a great leader, but when they are losing, you can't say he's not?

It's all post hoc explanations that reinforce beliefs.....

Passionate TD fans! 3 straight losses and some of you are calling them soft, and others for heads. I will continue to watch. That's what fans do. They don't play, they watch. Hopefully Sano will be back tonight, and Buxton in a couple of weeks. Reasons to watch a young team grow. Maybe they get into that idiotic Wild Card One Game Estupidoganza, so that could be fun, even if they're not much better overall than average.

I think the takeaway here is that it's a bit unreasonable to call a team soft after they've spent most of the season over performing in almost every capacity.

Starting a road trip against two tough teams and going 1-3 doesn't change that.

I agree, that wasn't Seth's point, though, imo, maybe I misunderstood.....

It seems like these west coast road trips have always been tough on the Twins.  I can't say that's borne out by the win-loss record, just my impression that's the case.

My biggest concern is that we get back on track to have a solid second half.  The last couple of seasons the Twins have gone into the tank either a little before or just after the All-Star break.  My wish when we were doing our preseason prognostications was that the Twins would remain relevant during the second half of the season.  I'm not saying we won't rally after a couple of terrible losses, but our past history has me a little worried.

I attended the game last night and was disappointed by the overall lack of energy and the failure of the hitters to be patient.  I will be at the game tonight and hoping for better.

Brock explained my point perfectly. I personally think it's a bit silly to call a team soft or to call for a manager's head after a 1-3 start to the second half when they've overcome some tough stretches in the 1st half too.

As for Hunter and his leadership. No one knows. My assumption is that he did a pretty good job leading and should get some credit for the turnaround (along with a lot of other things like Dozier, Molitor, Neil Allen, and more)... and when they're losing, it doesn't mean he isn't leading in the same way.

1 run in 18 innings after losing a tough game, 3 errors and about a half dozen other sloppy defensive plays. Giving up 21 runs in those two games. That is soft, I am sorry, it just is. Those last two games were some of the worst baseball I have watched, at no point did the Twins even look like they had a chance or were exerting any effort in either game.

I don't mind blowouts, those happen, but the Twins clearly were going through the motions on Sunday and even more so last night. That is frustrating when you stay up until 1 am on a weekday to watch that crap.

I agree, I don't think any pro athlete is soft*

*ok, there might be that rare exception

As for the manager, well, I don't get judging Molitor in less than 2-3 years......

the whole leadership thing is funny. If he's leading in the same way, and they are now losing, what does that say about the importance of leadership?**

**I believe in culture, but think it's a bit of a myth that one guy can totally change how well another pro athlete plays.....
