Twins have intereset in Kyle Kendrick

Have already had meetings in SD about the former Phillies starter.  On the plus side, Kendrick has been somewhat durable the last two years, making 62 starts.  Other than that though, he sort of meets a stereotype.  Fastball sits around 89.  He's posted below average numbers in the NL (although his home park is tough on pitchers).  He doesn't strike out a lot of people.  If you trust WAR, you won't like him.

 

I like him as AAA depth but I'd rather the Twins just gave May, Meyer, Milone a shot at the 5th spot than this guy.

As I tweeted earlier in the day... I have no problem with the Twins talking to Kyle Kendrick... I'll just be annoyed if (when?) they actually sign him.

Of course the Twins want this guy, he's a ho-hum starter in the NL so let's bring 'em on over to the AL! Where does this philosophy come from? If a guy is a lackluster starter in the NL facing pitchers instead of DHs and overall throwing fewer innings, what makes them think he'll succeed in the AL? I don't get it.

 

So the Twins have been linked to E. Santana, Gee, and now Kendrick. Does this mean the team isn't so optimistic about Meyer's chances, or would that be reading too much into it?

Honestly, other than experience, what would something like this accomplish? A so-so NL SP moving to the AL where he can be worse as a #4-5 SP when you have, not only a couple top prospects to pitch, but probably, in Milone and Pelfrey, if healthy, someone of equal value already on roster?
