A team of random dudes who started for the Twins on Opening Day this century

Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins played a spring training baseball game against the Boston Red Sox today. Sure, they lost. But all it means is that we are one day closer to regular season contests. But while we wait for the Opening Day game against the St. Louis Cardinals, it's time to take a walk down memory lane and look at some old Opening Day lineup cards. There are a lot of household names! Yo

The history of spring training taters

Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins have some spring training baseball games under their belt. This means we are getting closer and closer to regular season baseball. With spring training games comes spring training home runs. Several Twins players have gone yard so far, including off-season pickups Harrison Bader and Ty France. But what does this all mean? Some of you might say "...but it's only spri

Why 2025 will be the year Trevor Larnach takes the next step (and yes I know this is the third year in a row we've been saying this)

Well, it sure has been a while hasn't it? 2024 into 25 has been super hectic for me planning a move and the like but spring training starting finally got me the motivation to get writing again. But that's enough about me, you're here to read about Trevor Larnach, not some bozo living in a cheap apartment in Uptown. So by now we all know Trevor Larnach's story, first round pick with tons of talent but had lingering injury issues holding him back, as is normal for 90% of the top prospects in

The Precipice of Possible

It's easy to have hope when all is in front of you, and there's nothing left to lose. The 2025 Twins stand at an intoxicating crossroads. And no, I do not include the Pohlads in this equation - I'm referring to whichever 26 players end up being asked to bear the burden of taking this team to the postseason over the next few months, payroll and franchise financials be damned. Given the status of things, this should logically be a rebuilding year. In fact, let's take stock of recent even

The history of 82-80

Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! Spring training games are currently ongoing. This means we are getting closer to regular season baseball with every passing second. The Minnesota Twins went 82-80 last year. They became the tenth team in American League history to finish with an exact record of 82-80. Let's take a look at what the next season had in store for the first nine American League clubs to finish 82-80. 1

Twins vs the over/under

Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! Spring training baseball is finally here. That means regular season baseball is right around the corner. The Minnesota Twins enter this year with an over/under of 84.5, according to DraftKings. This is the 12th highest over/under total in the league, and the highest among AL Central teams. But we all know these games are not played by Las Vegas projections. They are played by human bei

Ten bold(ish) predictions for the 2025 Minnesota Twins

Hello, fellow humans! My name is William Malone IV. Son of William Malone III. And I come with great news! The Minnesota Twins will be playing a spring training baseball game against the Atlanta Braves tomorrow. What an exciting time of year this is. And the best way to celebrate these exciting times are with some bold(ish) predictions for the 2025 season. 1. Two talents or two sports – these athletes stand out.

Shohei Ohtani is the number one talent in MLB and will be as long as his body does not fall apart – Last year he had 59 SB and 54 HRs – and he batted 310.  He had 9.1 WAR.  In 7 years he has maintained a 282 BA, and in seven years he has accumulated 43.8 WAR.  Plus what gets him on this list is that he was a two way players – a Pitcher (not last year) and a Hitter.  And his pitching stats are 38 – 19 with a 3.01 era.  Not the greatest pitcher, but ready to be number one on 2/3rd of the teams.  S

Elite offense and Health and / or deep lineup conundrum

The Twins have a knack for developing pretty deep lineups 1-9 in terms of how the bottom third of our lineups typically stack up way better than the rest of the league at these spots.  That and a deep productive bench is how we have managed to stay above average on offense for the last few years.  This season, however, there is a potential wrench in this deal.  Our new 1B is in a 2-year slump and could play himself off the roster before the season begins and Julien had an awful sophomore slump s

Bunting is useful!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OsvfG5Qie0 I enjoyed this video & I thought I'd share it with my TD bros.. Now I agree with most that a sacrifice bunt is not beneficial in most cases and some players shouldn't be bunting but I agree with the author that there are many cases when bunting makes a lot of sense. Therefore bunting should not be shunned but should be taught & encouraged, especially those who have the talent to do so. Many INFers cheat by playing back because they don't e

A look at the Non-Roster Invitees

Could any of the Non-Roster Invitees make an impact in 2025? Let’s discuss:   Pitchers: Scott Blewett                A former 2nd round pick by the Kansas City Royals, Blewett signed a minor-league contract with the Twins prior to the 2024 season, not having pitched in a major league game since 2021 with the Royals. His contract was selected by the Twins in mid-August when the Twins playoff hopes were still shining. Blewett, who has a very unfortunate last name for a pitche

A Look at Depth - Shortstop

I’ve decided to write a series of posts regarding the depth in the Twins system or possibly lack thereof depending on how you feel about a particular position. I plan to go position by position in hopes to shed some light on who could make an impact as early as 2025, or who may make an impact within a few years. I started doing this back in 2023 and then life happened, so let’s try again! I’ve worked my way around the diamond and will discuss shortstops today! I’ll be using Roster Resource’s dep

Who Is Mickey Gasper – Major League Contributor or Minor League Depth?

Mickey Gasper is a recent addition to the Twins 40-man roster. He came over from the Red Sox in a trade for Jovani Moran. If you recall, Moran was designated for assignment by the Twins and went unclaimed. He also went unclaimed through the Rule 5 draft at the beginning of December. But on Christmas Eve he was traded to the Red Sox for Mickey Gasper. The first question I would ask is why didn’t the Red Sox claim him when he went on waivers? And why didn’t they take him in the Rule 5 dr

Looking at Prospects - Overview of the Minor Leaguers, or Other Ideas?

Hi all,  I posted a while back and was doing some writing on the prospects and depth at different positions throughout the organization. Some life things happened (new job, moved, etc) and I was wondering if people would be interested in me bringing something like that back?  If you'd prefer to see other topics talked about, I'm all for ideas and would love to start posting regularly again. Let me know any feedback or topics you'd like to see discussed further!

A Bad Precedent Is Being Set?

Those of us who are baby boomers vividly remember Popeye’s friend and lover of hamburgers, J. Wellington Wimpy, commonly referred to as Wimpy saying “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”. It has been reported that Wimpy would never come around on Tuesdays. The LA Dodgers, in this offseason, have started negotiating with available free agents by offering larger contracts with a decent amount of the money deferred. By deferred we mean that when a player's career is over, large p

Trade Idea Framework .... Help even it out....

Here is a trade Idea How about trading Vazquez and Paddack and a prospect to the Brewers for Rhys Hoskins and 5-7 million to help lower payroll.  There is a savings of 10 and 7.5 million in the two players and with cash back the Twins save money net after taking on Hoskins 18 million The Brewers get a back up C, and back end starter but we would likely need to send a prospect or two to even things out but what do you think.  is there a potential deal here or is a back up C and starting pitcher a

Twins Amateur Drafts 1975-1984 The Griffith Years - Part II

Twins Amateur Draft Choices – The Griffith Years – Part II (1975 to 1984)   A month ago I posted an article on the results of the first 10 years of the amateur draft which would have been lead by team owner Clark Griffith.   I did an analysis of the first 5 rounds from 1965 to 1974 and found that: 11 of the 51 total picks played at least one game for the Twins 6 of the 51 picks never signed a contract with the Twins and were available in later draft
