  1. Am I the only person who did not know we had an afternoon game today? NYY had to travel to, at least they came home, but what kind of scheduling says lets have an afternoon game following a night game with travel? Very odd. Not that it would make any difference in the outcome the game. Stunned Twins got a couple of runs. NYY pitcher must have had one too many beers between innings prior to tossing that HR ball. Oh well, as the old saying goes, "it aint over till they beat us tomorrow."
  2. Kershaw would have been perfect back in April if he could have finished. 3 near nono's in one season seems unusual. You and me both. With this staff, its believe it when I see it with injury recoveries. Predicting here Mr Mahle is done for 2022 and we'll see about surgical needs and 2023 later. If this doesnt prod MLB to reorganize into 2 divisions per league sooner than later, along wth balanced scheduling..would reduce the possibility of this happening in the future. And prep for inevitable expansion in 5 yrs.
  3. From Yardbarker, agree with others Davis is ultimately DFA candidate: "Davis, who turns 30 in February, is out of minor-league options. The Red Sox will have the next seven days to either outright or release the Arizona native. If he clears waivers, however, Davis could reject an outright assignment to the minor-leagues in favor of free agency since he has already accrued more than three years of big-league service time. "
  4. Our analytics and coaching staff just needs to find better Stick 'Em products.
  5. "... in Twins victories, Arraez is slashing .387/.456/.495; in losses, .251/.313/.360. He's the straw that stirs the drink." Amazing stat. Who would've predicted that back in March? The offense was going to run through Buck. Not only in the stretch run now, but for 23, what is the identity of this offense?
  6. Oh yeah, Johnny Podres taught him the circle change. Turned into his Cy Young pitch.
  7. Me too. The "trade for the injured pitcher" pattern is worrisome. Last time Mahle had shoulder fatigue he was out for a month. Twins cant afford that, but it will be what it will be. One week, one month, one year...whatever the outcome, I would hope there is some serious evaluation being done, including by ownership, about why these unfortunate outcomes keep happening, and then, stop repeating the pattern.
  8. Twins should bring in Sweet Music to teach pitching staff the circle change. Maybe one of the starters especially clicks with it.
  9. How about a suicide squeeze for a run!?? Sonny Gray interview not a great imo...signs of discontent, and left to wonder if he's the only one ...
  10. Aaron Judge: Someone will find out why you dont dole out term and top market to a guy who suddenly finds excess power and durability in his contract year. Fools gold. Someone will pay it, it sure better not be Falvine and company.
  11. "...the caveat to expected stats is that they don’t matter until they’re actualized." No truer words! Of the several mysteries surrounding this season's roster management, the stranger things-like dedication to maintaining Pagan remains the most mysterious by far. Someday this story will deserve a place in Ripley's Believe it or Not.
  12. Gray, López, Pagán ... these are all pitchers the front office brought in with big trades, and now the team's fate has been tethered to them in significant ways. If things continue to trend the way they have, we know where the accountability will lie (beyond the players themselves). Speaking truth Nick.
  13. Archer looks a lot like a nice BP piece. Tucker Davidson's line coming into today' game:
  14. Good point, he should switch to a fine scotch between innings, those framing metrics would improve. 28 on Sep 1st. Will Twins have 28 competent, healthy bodies to field by then?
  15. This sums it up perfectly. Great article, love the topic, the detail, and getting to know Chris Tveitbakk.
  16. "Rocco Baldelli revealed that his (Buxton's) knee has experienced increased swelling since an awkward landing on a jump in San Diego." SD series ended July 31st. By my math, 10 days prior to yesterday's game. So why not a 10-day DL trip for Buck? Ill-founded hope its day-to-day? One among many head scratchers.
  17. Agreed. To say the least. The question for FO is making good decisions on who to keep, who to trade or release, and who to sign in the off-season. If we are going into 2023 with the same cast of characters as 2022 we can fairly expect the same results.

    75 RBI or 75 RBIs?

Good examples, but color(s) can be interchangeably singular or plural. (But not always....see Blues, St Louis...but that refers not to the color but to an understandable state of mind of those who must live in or around St Louis.) So no, using a color to name the team doesn't bother me, at least not a lot, (although I think team names should point out the resiliency or toughness or something like that of the team...colors are lacking in that regard. If we want some real chuckles take a look at some of the team names in MiLB. Just sad.)....like in the same way if there existed the Seattle Sheep or Montana Moose wouldn't bother me saying or writing it as such. The plural is just contextual. The fix to the great RBI debate is to put the noun at the end of the phrase, where it is more naturally pluralized and colloquial, so Batted In Run(s), which is consistent with other stat's, like Home Run(s), etc........ Maybe MLB should just decree that from now on, it will be Batted In Run(s), BIR. Manfred can do it. He's king of the world in baseball. Just issue a decree, so let it be written, so let it be done. But that would be boring, and probably much more controversial than say creating an equitable international draft or establishing salary floors/caps.

    75 RBI or 75 RBIs?

Stanford Cardinal sounds ridiculous because it is. But there it is. Stanford! Plurals should be written/stated, not assumed. Or, we will strive for consistency: E.g., Buck of the Minnesota Twin has so far this season 47 rbi from 22 home run, producing 57 run on 66 hit and 302 at bat. ?
  20. Sad and worrisome news. Thanks Lucas Seehafer for excellent explainer. Very much sounds like last thing to do to fix it, but also appears no other option. All the best to him, hope it works.
  21. Yes, totally agree. Matthew is speaking truth. Personally I hesitate on Strotman, would rather see an extended period of success in BP, but his transition is promising. If he comes up though I wouldnt scream. Good with any of the others, even if a 40 man adjustment is needed. It's mid-August and we're still doing tryouts in the BP, but it has to be done, they need to release Pagan, today would be good.
  22. 35 large would be better spent developing the pitching staff, but its not the Twins' decision to make. I would rather clear the decks for Lewis to return at some point next season, assuming the medicals support that hope. It seems odd that "...teams don’t value things like RBI's like they used to...", scoring runs seems to be the point of the game.
