  1. Part of the problem with many seems to be that they are not cognizant of just how an injury is affecting their performance. Year after year with some like Buxton, Lewis, Kirilloff etc. Also some young players see long term players like Buxton and perhaps Correa now try to play through injuries and they think they need to also. Consequently for years we are not seeing just how good or bad someone truly could be.
  2. I'm not a fan. We may have several players crowding a position however just last weekend we had Vazquez playing third base. Position certainty is never a given.
  3. Seemingly the top of the pitching pipeline could get crowded next year. What a terrible problem to have.
  4. Good luck to both Lee and Lewis. I think Lee could take the third base position, with Lewis moving to first base full time next year. Lewis would probably be a great third baseman, but playing first may be easier on his legs and he does seem to have quite a few leg problems. Lewis may need a personal leg trainer.
  5. I like what I see in the pitching pipeline. I don't see any reason in the off season to sign free agent starting pitching. The team hasn't reached the point where it has too much pitching, if that is even possible. It's definitely worth watching these guys develop.
  6. Seems to me the title of this round was prep pitchers with the 21st pick. That said I would much prefer a pitcher that could be a high powered arm, even if bullpen only, then a utility infielder who can't hit or a slow, slugger for first base.
  7. Looks like Lee needs a position and job in the second half. I don't know where they will play him, most likely second base. It's nice to see a coming roster crunch with young players who actually have talent. Even at AAA the the roster is pretty young with old man is Tony Kemp at 33 and the next 2 oldest are 28 in Michael Helman and Chris Williams. And Michael Helman has a 924 OPS this year and won't even get a sniff.
  8. I'd like to see him hang in there and reach the 60 pitch mark. If he gets a 2-3 week opportunity, I think we get a good review of who he is and he will get a good idea of what he needs to work on. The upcoming schedule looks like Arizona tomorrow, Detroit next week, and Chicago White Sox the following week., then the all star break. Hopefully he gets enough of a test that he can settle down and throw some good innings.
  9. I'm not fond of the idea. I expect and hope more of the future bullpen to be built of former starters rather than retreads.
  10. I think the main thing for him, is to prove he knows where Cedar Rapids is.
  11. A big difference between Lee and Michael is organization. The Twins actually have both organization wide and level specific coaching and training programs. People may have forgotten but it's been less than 10 years since the organization has drastically upgraded the coaching and scouting area's. I also think Lee is smart enough to take full advantage of the programs. Not that Michael wasn't smart. But if the roving hitting coach only shows up 1 day a week, it's pretty difficult to make progress.
  12. I expect the Twins to catch Cleveland, I do think Minnesota has to control their destiny however and we've made the margin for error closer than it needed to be. If Ober can pitch closer to last years form and the next injury replacement holds his own we can make up ground by the allstar break.
  13. Assume Lee is second base, then package Julian, Gonzalez and Keaschall or Wallner or both. Miami has been hunting hitting and they don't particularly need anyone this year.
  14. The team pitching pipeline is showing more and more. Varland may become permanent reliever, which the Twins could use another dominant bullpen arm. Mathews has looked very good, along with Festa, but Morris has also been pitching well. If Raya can't pitch more innings he may soon get passed by three more possible starters and wind up as a permanent bullpen piece.
  15. I would expect Erod to be up early next year at the latest, which means there will be some movement before then. If the Twins were running away with the division, it would be easier to plan on bringing him up earlier this year. Doesn't look like that will happen since the schedule is a third of the way done. When he gets moved to St Paul, he could bounce back and forth between AAA and the Twins to slowly get him adjusted to the major league clubhouse. Of course if he tears the cover off the ball at both stops, there won't be any questions about sending him back down.
  16. I could see Miranda take about half of the DH duties. Miranda can play the field 1-2 days a week, with him probably taking more time at first.
  17. The list looks good and deep, I hope we add a couple more names in July that will make this even stronger by the end of the year.
  18. Doesn't appear as if Prielipp will get a lot of mound time this year, but hopefully enough to stabilize and with good health his career can take off next year. I'd like to see Canterino in the Twins bullpen late in the year. Hopefully Stewart makes it back by the end of June. I'd like to see Lee be available for the Twins lineup by the allstar break or shortly there after. Lewis can't make it back soon enough.
  19. I think the Twins need to develop a mid to later pick round draft strategy. They probably already have. They won't get any top of round picks and won't get many end of round draft picks, I expect them to pick in 20-25 position for a few years. That probably means late bloomers or players with 3-4 good to great skill sets versus true 5 skill players. I would try to stay away from players with the projected upside of a utility player, the Twins have plenty in the org. Too many of the current crop of shortstops look like utility infielders at best. Maybe focus on pitchers that need to be taught additional pitches and command.
  20. Since Buxton appears ready to return, he has about a month on Lewis to bring energy to the lineup. I hope Buxtons hitting improves quickly over the next couple of weeks. One homer and 3 walks in nearly 100 plate appearances prior to injury was not helping a lot. I hope he stays healthy the rest of the season. I expect Lewis to bring some explosions to lineup when he return, although there will probably be less than 100 games left in the season. I hope he stays healthy the rest of the season. Stewart will bring a lot to the back end of the bullpen when he gets back. They need to find a usage schedule for him that gets him healthy the rest of the year. I expect trying to compensate for the loss of Duran probably affected his usage the first month or so. I am not sure about Topa, but if we have all four available for the second half that would work out to be a pretty good mid season trade. I think Lewis would provide the biggest return to the team.
  21. I think Festa has put himself in line for a call up. Hopefully there won't be any injuries in the rotation, although they may give bring some one from Triple A to start a game and give their starters a breather day. Has Festa moved in front of Varland for that start? If Festa has, then I could see Varland brought back up to strengthen the bullpen.
  22. The first trade of Arreaz was surprising, but this one even more so. He may turn into a lifetime dh and occasional utility infielder. I still wish him best of luck.
  23. I hope he is one of the rare ones that stays healthy and makes it. We've seen too many flame out over the years. Good luck Charlee.
  24. Unfortunatley cutting any veteran does not bring back dollars to add to payroll. We are just left without a player on the roster and no money in the bank.
  25. After 6 games? Should we expect them to have a 10 lead?
