  1. I don't massively disagree with the rankings, though there is probably some flyover-land discount. As for potential future top 100 players, I think Wallner could put it all together and get there. I'm curious if any relievers at all made the list.
  2. A lot of the commentary is taking the uncertainty over Lee's position as an indictment of his defense. Rather, I think he showed he can be a good defender anywhere in the infield. Accommodating everyone else's glove is what creates the uncertainty. With the shift ban and pro-steal rules, I think the defensive priority of the future is second over third. Our non-Lee best case long term defensive options at third (Lewis and Miranda) have shown more viability defensively and offensively than our options at second (Julien and Keaschall). So far. I think it adds up to giving Lee second long term as plan A. But I would not be opposed to using this period of time to test drive Julien as the second base fixture. I also wouldn't be surprised if Lee's bat leaves him as a backup infielder long term, especially if Keaschall keeps hitting and claims second. The Twins moves so far (bringing in short term backups for second but not third or short) makes me think this is exactly the Twins' plan.
  3. Sorry, but you're going to have to wait to get irrational about Ty France. If he starts April off super hot, we will still be asking the same thing: "is this what Ty France really is?" We can get irrationally exuberant in... late June?
  4. After seeing the boxscore, I was worried that both Topa and Stewart left with injuries. Perhaps there was no intention to have Stewart pitch a full inning?
  5. Not really going to disagree with any of the comments here, except this: Winning it all is worth an awful lot. It is worth taking outsized steps to get players with the skills to perform in the playoffs, which Garver showed. What Texas did is exactly what I would want the Twins to do if it turns out we are one elite bat from contention. And the cost to them was well-contained. Can't say the Twins lost this trade, but a championship says Texas won it.
  6. I wouldn't mind that if that exact lineup gets lots of run this year, with maybe a different batting order. I hope performances at the plate and defensively make it worthwhile
  7. There was another article saying that the Bader signing was purposefully removing a tempting pinch-hit-early strategy from Rocco's bag. Maybe this signing can force Rocco to use the 8th spot in the bullpen as a place for a flexible long man, rather than a doghouse for underperforming vets? In which case, yay. But in any case, we should recognize that the 8th guy in Rocco's pen is not really blocking anyone. If they see anything, give him a shot.
  8. How have we not been calling him Captain Jax all this time? Order up a round for the other team to drown their sorrows
  9. C. Ownership is cool with no more than a playoff spot. All evidence since November is that this is the case. They see no need for this team to get better, if they're already good enough to get into the playoffs. It also aligns with the Pohlad approach to owning the team since Kirby retired. Falvey has been able to wake them to action after bad years, but otherwise, he's restrained by the short leash that Terry Ryan was so fond of.
  10. If the Twins manage to provide some save situations, Duran has time to build a case, and the rep and resume.
  11. For now, it makes sense to send Kirilloff down or to the IL (if his performance is at all health-related). The value of the veteran bench players will be, um, re-evaluated after the trade deadline, just like last year. If Lee, Martin, Wallner, Camargo, and/or Kirilloff are productive and healthy by July, then the whole veteran bench is questionable.
  12. Then there is the option (not available or easy for all) of enjoying the game at the local watering hole.
  13. There are more ingredients in a summer sausage than are dreamt of in your philosophy
  14. Agreed, but what Oakland did last year and this, and what the White Sox are doing, is a step beyond that. They're not even trying to be profitable, they're just keeping the lights on hoping to move or sell. I know this has been done before (1982 Twins), but the level of futility of these teams, in the context of the tap running dry on TV rights and public approval of stadiums, should scare the league. This is not good for the future of the sport.
  15. So much this. And we are now entering the second year of some franchises putting only token teams on the field. This should be setting the commissioner's hair on fire, but instead, crickets.
  16. Thank you for the clarifying information. A hopeful outlook considering the possibilities
  17. My casual glances at box scores tell me Duarte has looked good this spring. Can anyone confirm? If they go for a 1-inning guy, does he have a shot?
  18. I strongly endorse this idea. It combines late-season rest for the regulars, postseason prep in case Camargo is needed, and lets us consider whether a Vazquez trade is survivable.
  19. Whatever the catcher rotation ends up being (60 Jeffers/40 Vazquez is my guess), I hope that they give Jeffers DH days whenever he has a day off catching and they face a lefty. It would only be 15-25 more games, but we could use all the help we can get.
  20. It's also possible Santana's performance doesn't keep his roster spot all year. Last year, he may not have missed time, but he didn't have great stats for a 1B/DH as he starts to show his age
  21. That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, especially since they would often be platoon partners at 1B or DH. I'd love a couple guys that have good contact and discipline, and just enough power to make pitchers nibble. With the exit velocity concerns, now we have something to watch for to see if a callup is warranted.
