    You forgot the biggest one, IMO. Jim Pohlad put most of the blame on the players, and took accountability away from the front office. Thus, the mistakes (DFAing Arcia, playing time for veteran mediocrities, poor player development, etc) continued, and will continue into the foreseeable future. Murphy's Law is about preparing well for the worst, and the Twins are terrible at it.

    Until #5 results in front office changes, the rest of these benefits are worthless. I hear nothing that sounds like ownership understands how bad this situation is

    The return the twins should focus on for Nolasco, Plouffe, Jepsen, Dozier, Hughes, Suzuki, and Perkins is the empty roster spots. I'd be happy with that.

    A major culprit is that Terry Ryan doesn't treat major league roster spots as the precious commodity they are. He gums up those spots with long contracts for one-year successes, tryouts for has-beens and never-will-bes, and lifetime achievement awards for mediocre starters that passed their undeserved tryouts. All of these make it impossible for high-ceiling prospects to get any run, even on terrible teams.

    The lineup is young and inconsistent. The rotation coming out of spring training was old and mediocre.

    Love this. But I don't really call for more free agent signings or trades. I call for letting the young guys play, and making decisions on who can be a difference maker in the postseason. Pitchers who can face the best lineups in MLB and thrive. Who fits that description on the Twins? Santana, Perkins, and who? But Berrios lingers. Grrr

    Terry Ryan doesn't seem willing to risk winnable division titles to win World Series. By that, I mean he will not mess with a roster of good-enough players to bring in higher-upside players. Thus Nolasco can block Berrios, for example. OTOH, Bill Smith did seem willing to take that risk, and look where that got us. Winning a championship with the current leadership is going to take some dumb luck, like finding a Tyler Duffey who is better against the majors than the minors (assuming that lasts)

    Good writeup, this looks like the deal, except they may squeeze Pressly in and give up on Tonkin. Interesting team outlook. You forgot Rosario as someone to watch. When he hits .300 that should raise his OBP

    That's a hell of a set of rookies. Next year's likely starting outfield debuted this year. And they could go for a decade out there when Kepler is in right and Sano moves to the infield

    I don't know enough to disagree with any of the predictions, but just to throw more doom out there, expanding rosters will also hit fans by slowing the game down yet more. Wouldn't we all love to see the 5th guy in a 9 man bullpen putting out the fire in the 4th inning? Blech. As for a draft lottery preventing tanking, the NBA is seeing that blow up in its face, as rather than one team laying down for one year, you have several teams with lame rosters for as many years as it takes to win the lottery.

    I wholeheartedly agree. First, having a consistent lefty in your rotation is kinda like having a no-bat catcher on your bench. Not a difference maker, but a necessity. Second, if you want an unsexy trade bait starter that, according to his peripherals, has probably fulfilled his upside, that's Gibson.

    I love the Dave Parker comp. Exactly what I've been thinking. However, don't forget that Sano has always been an infield prospect, and it appears his foot speed is why. Parker was not slow, IIRC. As for Culpepper, Parker played outfield into his 30s because he wasn't being tackled a dozen times a week...

    Seth is right on outfield and rotation, I hope. As for bullpen, I would be very curious to see Taylor Rogers this year as a reliever. If his performance against righties is keeping him out of the majors, then at least use him vs. lefties. I also like keeping Arcia on the bench, even if Buxton comes up. With the defensive flexibility of our regulars, he could replace any of six bats in the starting lineup, four of them righties.

Created an account after lurking this site since its inception, just to say what I shared to Facebook with this link: No it's not the most important thing to say about times like this, but I guess that is the point. Don't miss out on tiny moments to create community, lest you look up and stop recognizing yours. I'm thankful for everyone yesterday everywhere who mixed it up with friends and family over uncomfortable topics, and still sat down together to eat, to share, and yes, to cheer.
