  1. Apologies if this already exists and I missed it, but I enjoy this ongoing log each year. I'll start it: Ben Rortvedt out for at least a month. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/02/frankie-montas-ben-rortvedt-yankees-shoulder-surgery.html
  2. I'm surprised there are so few names over 10 years, honestly. I think that highlights a lot of recent discussion here: just how long a player is considered a prospect.
  3. Arbitration is known for this. He either didn't listen to his agent or has a bad one. If he's so offended by this, what will set him off next time? I wouldn't waste the resources.
  4. Last year honestly was more than I expected. I don't count August/September since those were all 4th stringers after an insane streak of injuries. The story to me is the improvements on defense. Taylor, Gallo, Farmer, Vasquez. There's a pattern and it's not just depth. The question: Have they moved on from losing their pitching coach? (And can they get a few situational hits?)
  5. I'd have him focus on 2B/3B infield defense. If/when that fails, he can learn 1B or LF in the majors. I couldn't worry less about logjams in front of him. Players will slump, injuries will happen, etc, and rosters are constantly in flux. The goal is to have as many good players as possible.
  6. And, soon, more rules to keep people from "abusing" these. Seems like fixing things that aren't broke to me. If teams want to have a bad pitcher out there, why can't they?
  7. I don't put much stock in opening day rosters, since they'll already be moving players in the first week. But having 3 relievers with options left leaves them some nice room to maneuver. I'm probably wrong, but I don't think they had that wiggle room much of last year.
  8. I'm having Alex Meyer flashbacks. Let's hope it works out for him.
  9. Huh? Why would the MLB Twins' current base stealing philosophy be relevant to how good of a prospect he is? Besides that, speed is helpful in all aspects of the game. Not just base stealing.
  10. honest question: Are minor league errors called as arbitrarily and MLB errors? I'm hearing consensus that his defense needs work so I'll believe it. But errors, at the MLB level anyway, are kind of a useless stat.
  11. A minor league contract can't hurt. But this lack of control isn't a good sign.
  12. I'm fine with 1-2 depth deals. If its a one year deal, you just cut them in May and pull from the minors. It's easier to stockpile arms now, and get them into playing shape, than to do so in the middle of the season.
  13. It would be cool if you put where you ranked players last year (when applicable).
  14. Gordon doesn't have the power for regular ABs in the corner OF slots. He either needs to get better an IF defense or develop HR power (unlikely). That said, it's hard to improve IF defense if you never play there. If he hits like last year, ABs won't be a problem. If he hits like 2021, they will be.
  15. When you say "interesting arms," I take it you don't mean "Minnesota interesting."
  16. Has anybody formally announced that Miranda will play 3B primarily? Or is that just an assumption we're all making?
  17. It's somewhat a symbol to the age of the roster. The majority are still in arbitration or prearb years. Experience dictates salary in this league.
  18. If I've learned anything from this site, one person's "ace" is another's "low #3." I think this argument strongly depends on your definition of ace. I'd only make a move if a top tier, generational pitcher like prime Viola or Santana were somehow available. And even then, with stipulations. After all, the Mets requested a salary extension/negotation instead of just rental in Santana's case. (They're not.)
  19. Is Lee the heir apparent when Polanco's contract ends, or is he more likely to move to 3B?
  20. So far they seem better with offseason than in-season moves.
  21. I don't see this as a pattern, I see it as supply and demand. There are far more position players in free agency than starting pitchers, especially considering the patterns this FO has shown: 1) An aversion to long-term contracts. Ace pitchers sign long, high risk deals. Even Correa ended up on 6 years instead of longer. Donaldson was 4. 2) Opportunistic. I think the later is their pattern. If they see a deal, they go for it. The Correa drama allowed them to get a 6 year deal instead of 10. Lynn was a late signing. Correa last year was a prove-it scenario. The acquisition and flip of Kafler-Fineka... The pattern I see is that they read the market and go for the efficient moves they think will make the team best instead of coming in with a predetermined plan.
  22. They've also acquired above average defenders at C, SS, and CF.
  23. Turning down an offer is the first step of any negotiation. I'm not reading anything into this. And find me one employee, anywhere, who doesn't think they're worth more than their boss pays them.
