    I'm not sure I agree with this: Buxton, Kirillof, Paddack, every trade for a pitcher they've made other than P Lopez, Gallo...those are just the examples I came up with in 5 minutes. I think this FO absolutely embraces unknowns, though with some contractual conditions to limit risk (i.e. AB escalators, multi-year contracts after surgery, etc).

    I think that's been the plan at 1B the last 3 years. How has it worked out?

    I'm not going to pretend to understand these numbers in any deep sense, but the fact that negative numbers are still top 10 tells you how special defense really is, and how few teams truly value it.

    Hardly a surprise. 1B was basically a DH-style rotation of players last year. It's also seen as an "offense-first" position, which means they could use an addition to help stabilize the lineup too. I expect a Turner-type player who can play multiple positions or a cheap (Cron) type if 1B only. Somebody they can drop later with no consequences. 1B/3B or 1B/OF would be ideal for flexibility.

    As long as everybody understands he'll miss 2 years of the contract due to Tommy John surgery. 138 pitches at age 25?

    Sigh. All we report now is how far and how fast a HR was hit instead of how many runs were scored? (This is not aimed at the original poster. I'm just sick of these silly stats. A HR to the first row is just as many runs as a HR to the third deck -- and neither is as exciting as an inside the park HR.)

    What? A large corporation stating "uncertain financial circumstances" and trying to save money in 2023 while providing no very little evidence. I see a trend here.

    If this is the level of quality they're going to sign, just bring back Kuechel for like $18 million less.

    Nice article. I would have preferred to read it in a 1-30 order instead of broken into categories, but that's just me. I enjoyed it as it is too.

    I imagine the off-field issue would be Pavano's entire tenure in NY. Which makes Sonny Gray seem popular in NY in comparison.

    It's a good problem for the Twins to have. 1) They gain a draft choice. (which could entice them to sign another top free agent and 'swap picks') or 2) They keep a reliable top of the rotation arm on a short-term deal.

    The only reason Gray accepts is if he's planning to retire in 1 year. Which you kinda-sorta said in the "cares more about winning" section.

    Let's note that Bally's issues don't only affect the Twins. There could be widespread affects on the market.

    The saga could go either way. But I don't believe a single word out of that guy's mouth. Let's just say he seems to like the sound of his own voice, and that trait is great for press releases.

    Also, they just aren't going to get anything more than an A-ball wild card or a fringe bullpen arm for him. The other key factor in keeping him, besides as IF insurance, is what else they can do with that $7million (just like the Urshela trade.)

    While I think Farmer is largely expendable, who becomes the backup SS? Polanco, probably, as it stands. Gordon in a pinch. Possibly Lewis, depending what happens at 3B (if Miranda resurrects). But they need somebody who can go 15-20 days if Correa hits IL. Or maybe that's some IF combo that includes Lee and rearranging Lewis/Polanco/Julien. I guess this comes down to if Correa will be 100% next spring. If not, I'd keep Farmer as insurance.

    Didn't he decline an interview a year or 2 ago? Or am I mis-remembering things again?

    CJ Cron is always available and, should Kirilloff recover, he's always seemingly expendable too. I think it comes down to how much patience the FO has with Kirilloff's injury history at this point -- if they seek a longer term player or a role player.

    To add onto earlier comments, I think most of this team were decent to good. But they just talked too much. It's either too many commentators (most likely) or just the wrong pairing of styles. During a mound visit, I found myself excited for a moment of silence with an insurance commercial sometimes... Well, that at the incessant repetition.

    This has to be the first time I've ever heard people complaining about this manager using the same lineup too often.

    While I agree, I think MLB signed some terrible contracts years back. Because there is no way to explain how they actually make it harder for fans in relation to tech advances. Hoping they can resolve this whenever current contracts expire. I mean, for one of a million other examples, why is the only broadcast TV game in this series Game 3 in the middle of the day? It feels random vs strategic.
