  1. The 2017 draft most likely extended the window past 2021.
  2. Solid moves. A strong 2017 draft became deeper with the addition of these two. The new regime certainly doesn't miss anyway to improve the franchise.
  3. Most teams have never signed a front line free agent and contending in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 is already a done deal.
  4. This is great. It reminds me that when I first came to the board in May, 2013, very few knew we were rebuilding even though it had started over a year earlier. For those with nothing better to do, I encourage you to read John Bonne's article of August, 2013 about the Cubbie's rebuild. That's when the lights came on.
  5. They get a chance to get a front line free agent every year. Let's not confuse Darvish with Kershaw or Greinke.
  6. I don't know about you, but I heard many members screaming they wanted to see shiny new things. Not one member said shiny new things except Haley. Hindsight is a powerful tool.
  7. Not only that, it has probably never happened in the history of baseball.
  8. Seth posted at one point in time that our favorite team received several offers for the first pick. They never announced what I'm sure was a minimal return to move down to #8. You stated he was with the team half the season, another member talked about dozens of games. 18 innings and 10 games are the winning answers. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize our favorite team, but there is not one anywhere close to this. Rule 5 is the ultimate lottery ticket and only costs $50,000 to play. Why not research the # of Rule 5 picks that make it every year? You do know they basically did the same thing when they took Johan.
  9. Interesting to note, Stewart, Eades, Gonsalves, and Slegers were drafted in the first 5 rounds of the 2013 draft. As I've posted before, at some point in time pitching comes down to a numbers game. I see Slegers as better emergency depth than we have had in the past.
  10. No team has a CF whose even close on defense. Rosario can fill in if push comes to shove. We can't stop a move for the starting pitcher we so desperately need, by being concerned about a lightweight like Granite.
  11. The White Sox have a country club atmosphere. When they hired their G.M., they went on the cheap. Guarantee Rate is going to become a parking lot.
  12. By half a season, I assume you're referring to 16 innings, We took a shot at Haley and missed. Happens all the time to every team.
  13. There is no advantage to being the first team making a deal, nor any disadvantage to the team making the last deal. Santana and Castro are two of the best free agent pickups in team history, but feel free to refer to them as scrapes. I assume we will be hearing a great deal from the chronically impatient, but then again, I expect a handful of members are capable of waiting for the fat lady to sing.
  14. They blinked, and then rebounded nicely. You're hanging your hat on Ynoa( the next Hu) and that we could have made a move to beat a far better team at the deadline?
  15. Bingo! I'll never get over how many members of the board still confuse free agency with Christmas. Free agency has evolved into the market of last resort.
  16. I don't recall this board ever liking a free agent move our favorite team has made. Hughes maybe the closest. There will be much unhappiness, unless we sign the most expensive item on the menu.
  17. It doesn't demonstrate anything. All kinds of top end arms still in the system. Patience is a virtue.
