  1. This is simply not true and do you really believe you have the time and expertise necessary to judge our favorite team vs. the rest of the league? Easy to say, impossible to prove.
  2. Can you share specific examples with the board? Off hand, I can't think of one.
  3. I was disappointed for several days when they traded Garcia. I thought he was the right player, at the right time, for the right price. I thought they blinked, but rebounded very well, by bringing in 4 arms, 3 of whom are lefties. I'm still learning about the new regime.
  4. As we speak, Santana is a number 2. A workable definition of a 3, is one we trust to pitch in a playoff game. Santana is much better than that, therefore a 2. Berrios will show more ceiling in the future. Good enough now, is better than perfect later.
  5. The team doesn't need 2 top of the rotation arms though. Good enough now, is better than perfect later.
  6. This board was formed during the down cycle. Now that we're in the up cycle the board is starting to attract the best and the brightest.
  7. There is no reason to believe Sano and Polanco won't improve in their 2nd full season at the position.
  8. Every team in baseball has a farm system full of prospects that would slot in behind Santana. Doubtful our team or most teams, at this point in time, have the money to sign somebody who will slot in front of Santana. All we need to do is use our deep farm system to trade for a 2/3 type. No need to impair our future, lusting for a mythical ace. There may be 10-12 in all of baseball, and we are much better off using our resources on our 6 young stars. You can have a good rotation, without a mythical ace, which is the route we should take.
  9. The rebuild is over. Who said they are trying to get by on the cheap? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I have no problem waiting until the hot stove season is over to decide. Also, when you have a farm system as deep and talented as ours to use as trade bait, why invest heavily in the market of last resort, which is what free agency has evolved into.
  10. This is really well done. TD just took a step forward.
  11. Excellent example. Theo had kind of the same thing happen with the Cubbies. A lot can happen on the way to Target Field.
  12. He took starting pitching with picks 3, 4, and 5 in the 2017 draft and followed that up by picking up 4 arms at the trade deadline. Castro and Gimenez, like all players brought in by our FO, are board scapegoats, but very inspired pickups to work with our young pitchers. Roman wasn't built in a long weekend.
  13. One trade is not going to gut our farm system. I understand free agency is only money and when we lose several of our future stars to free agency it will be only money. Let's save our only money to pay our future stars as much as possible and not spent 10-20+ times as much on those not named Buxton or Sano.
  14. Andy MacPhail aways said develop arms, buy bats. Regardless, I would open up the farm system and make the mega-trade for a youngish 2/3 starting pitcher. I really don't care which prospects they trade, but my preference is not to include Gonsalves or board scapegoat Kohl Stewart.
  15. We got more for John Ryan Murphy, than we got for board favorites Pinto, Arcia, and soon to depart Vargas combined. Arizona chose board scapegoat Murphy over board favorite Garver.
  16. He didn't become a world beater until after the All-Star break. Plenty of time.
  17. I would lock up Sano and Buxton, as long as possible, hopefully this off season, but no later than next. Berrios I would wait on because all pitchers have injury concerns. It doesn't have to be done anytime soon, but feel you will need to choose between Rosario and Kepler at some point in time. I look at Polanco as the odd man out, because it certainly appears we have an abundance of middle infielders in the pipeline. If we keep the right 4, we should be able to extend the window. Masterful job of accumulating talent by Terry Ryan.
  18. Too many good choices for me to pick one.
  19. Before I spend big money on relief pitching, I would start think Longoria contracts. The walls won't come tumbling down, as long as we call retain the core of four.
  20. You can say the same thing about every manager there has ever been. I personally felt he did a very good job protecting Mejia this season.
  21. I like Mejia, but I also feel it's premature to include him in the core. I hope a rookie starting pitcher does well every other game or so, and Mejia has done quite a bit better than that. His debut season was better than Gibson, May, Meyer, and Berrios. Only Duffey performed better. I'm leaning toward having Mejia and Gonsalves fight it out for the 5th spot, and the loser being first man up.
  22. No one was waiting for Perkins, and Hughes has the one problematic contract. I wasn't crazy on the idea the new regime was going to spend at least half the season evaluating what we have, but it makes a lot more sense now. Not that we are not going to be looking to make some deals this off season, but for the first time since we started the rebuild in 2012, we have respectable pitching depth going forward. BA had a rather extensive article circa 2009 or 2010 which concluded it takes a mid-market team a minimum of 6 years for a complete rebuild. Our favorite team is right on schedule.
  23. Vargas won't be back, and I'd be very surprised if they keep Garver over Gimenez. I don't believe they trust Garver defensively, and Gimenez is a proven winner. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
