  1. The only reason he wouldn’t be on the opening day roster is reluctance with starting his service time clock. I hope we don’t resort to that. Kirilloff was selected out of several OF options at the alternate site to start an elimination playoff game. Claiming he’s not ready less than 8 months later is silly.
  2. I’ve been banging the drum that him or Thorpe should be another LH option in the bullpen. I think that will be his best bet to make an MLB impact this year and future years.
  3. I imagine everyone will be keeping a close eye on the Rangers early this season. They’ve already announced their intention of going full capacity from opening day. If there aren’t major consequences, I am sure other teams around the US will follow suit quickly.
  4. Thorpe is gaining my respect, for sure. It could have been just as easy to give up knowing the odds were against him to be a regular MLB contributor here. He showed up this year ready to prove people wrong. Good for him!
  5. The Twins will need to make some difficult decisions in the next couple of years deciding who they can afford to keep, or trade to get some value before they leave. I think Buxton will be in the latter category. His skill set that makes him so dangerous right now (speed, defensive chops) likely won't continue into his 30's, and the bat has never been good enough to increase his value.
  6. 3 guarantees in life: Death, taxes, and Max Kepler breakout articles every year on TD.
  7. Without knowing the effect of the new less juiced baseball, I'd bet the under on all HR totals this season.
  8. This wasn't the direction I expected the article to go reading the headline... It was set up on a tee to talk about Rooker. Debuted at 25, potential first full season at 26, already showing power. Next time!
  9. Thorpe could have a nice MLB career in the bullpen, a la the Taylor Rogers route. I would think one of him or Smeltzer ends up helping out in the pen this year as another LH option.
  10. Polanco is our starting 2nd baseman. If I can shuffle around lineups I’m sure several teams could be in the conversation.
  11. LA Dodgers, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies. Pretty easy. But, instead of this route you're taking, let me ask you. Do you think we're in good shape if Simmons is hurt for more than a 15 day IL stint?
  12. We're one injury away from Polanco being back at SS, Arraez at 2B, and ???? as their backup. The depth isn't there.
  13. Andrelton Simmons needs to be put in bubble wrap right now. The SS depth is non-existent. Simmons Polanco Gordon Riddle Romine Ick.
  14. 2 lost seasons in a row. What a shame. His ranking will take a tumble on national publications.
  15. I thought I heard last year that he stopped looking at video of him at the plate all together because it was messing with his approach. That, to me, is the biggest red flag of all.
  16. I'm glad you peeled back and chopped that quote before typing something you would regret!
  17. No Garlick puns Seth? I get it, I wouldn't want to mince my words either...
  18. Hard pass. His contract is what made him so attractive in the first place. I thought we learned our lesson after tearing up Phil Hughes' team favorable contract for his albatross contract.
  19. They had other OFs at the alternate site to fill in, but they chose Kirilloff. Rocco said he was more than ready to fill in at that time. It would be quite ironic if he’s ready to play in an elimination playoff game, but not ready for opening day 6 months later.
  20. Win win for both sides. Twins finally get a reliable rotation arm for a reasonable price. The Dodgers obviously didn't miss a beat losing Maeda. If anything, this is a good example to show that trading top prospects does end up with positive results from time to time. Maybe we should explore that option more frequently while we're in this competitive window...
  21. Concur. As long as he has the option year left there’s no harm having him on the fringe. He would also be one of my first position player DFAs if there’s a better alternative available during the season. Next season when he’s out of options or the new CBA dictates new rules is when I would cut ties.
  22. At the end of the day I’d rather have a player who outperforms their advanced stats in a positive way than the inverse. I’m still haunted by Ricky Nolasco’s low FIP numbers as he tossed beach balls to batters.
  23. I guess we're going to find out if bringing essentially the same team back is enough to overcome the 18 game postseason losing streak.
  24. I’ve been curious what they will do in regards to years of control in the next CBA. Will they would grandfather players already in this broken system? I wholeheartedly agree there will be a complete overhaul of the system we know right now. We’ve had years of data showing that GMs no longer want to pay older players, so we need to create a new system to get money to players earlier in their career. If the players will be grandfathered in, wouldn’t it make sense to call up every player you’d like to have 6, wink wink, nearly 7 full seasons of control over?
  25. Worthwhile to add here. To add further context, he’s doing a top 20 Twins prospects list running the week of 2/8 and will go into greater detail about Larnach.
