Prospect Retrospective: Kody Funderburk
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice debut tonight! Nice to see him give us 2 solid inning and Winder come in and shut the door. Funderburk likely getting sent down tho for a few days to get another arm up. -
Week in Review: Rallies and Relief Woes
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can we finally put some dirt on Cleveland and bury them! I like the piggy back today would have been a big bullpen saver except they had to throw 4 extra inning with some bad baseball. The bullpen mess has to be resolved or we have no chance! Maybe Jax and Duran get some rest and Stewart comes back healthy. Here’s to hoping I guess- 20 replies

I don’t see a problem with having both Farmer and Castro on the roster either. I just think Farmer will be DFA for financial reasons because Castro and fill his role and Farmer will be an expensive Utility player in the last year of arb and already making 6 milllion.

A very nice Swiss Army knife for the short bench. Hoping he is back for the playoffs to pinch run and defensive sub. likely a guy you bring back next yr, He makes Gordon and Farmer DFA this off-season. Tho Castro likely gets replaced by Martin in 2024.

Jorge Polanco’s Twins Tenure is Approaching an End
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t see how you don’t pick up his option. You paid Gallo 11 mil this season you paid farmer 6. Polanco gives you depth at both 2nd and 3rd and he has likely trade value since it’s a 1 yr deal or value at next yrs deadline. I am not sold on Julien at 2B long term or Lewis staying healthy and playing 3B. -
What has went wrong with him!? He looks completely unrecognizable at the plate taking half hearted swing and rolling over balls down the middle. His time in St. Paul he didn’t even put up decent #s against AAA pitching. Now back in the bigs because of injury he is a below average defender at 3B and if he can’t hit why is he up. Stick with Farmer at 3B full time. Hoping Lewis isn’t out long term with that oblique injury. What do you do with Miranda now and going forward.? Was he just a flash in the pan? Did the twins hitting coaches try something different and mess him up completely? Do pitchers have a book on how to get him out and he can’t adjust?

Get In. We’re Going Shopping
High heat replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We’ll have to see where we are at in another month health wise standing wise and production wise. Right now as we look and stand I wouldn’t buy a thing and would likely offer a few pieces if teams are looking to take. Maybe in another month you can see what’s in the middle relief availability and spend a low values prospect but a floundering team around .500 doesn’t warrant any series spending.- 21 replies

Royce Lewis Excelling as Rare Young 5-Tool Player
High heat replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If his legs are feeling good and he is ready to run give him the green light!!! This team I’m not hitting with runners on and is striking out way to much need to find a way to generate offense and stealing bases might be it.- 23 replies

Opportunity Awaits Edouard Julien
High heat replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really like Juliens bat and plate discipline is very hard to teach, being more aggressive could help him. He is not Arraez with the eye and contact ability. He is a butcher at 2B, he can’t plays there in his current state long term. With 1B and DH covered I could really see Julien as the big trade piece at the deadline. Now I wouldn’t move him unless it was for a major piece but his bat might be something that moves the needle. -
I really liked Arraez and he brought in great value in a trade. I really like Juliens bat but I don’t think it is in the same class as Arraez. Like it or not Buxton is or DH going forward and is signed for 5 more yrs. Even if legs get healthy he will be there 50/50 for health management. I see Julien tied to Miranda. Both limited defensively but have good bats. To me Miranda is passable at 3B Julien is not at 2B. Miranda’s value has plummeted where Juliens is at a high.
-
A 23 yr old who by all accounts is solid to good defensively as a catcher. Now the bat appears to be showing so power. If he can add some more contact he may be a solid catcher. I would guess he is a 40 man add this off-season unless the bat falls off the rest of the way!!! He isn’t much of an option in 2023 unless both Jeffers and Vasquez go down.
-
This game is what bad teams do and is an example of where we are. Up 5 runs and lets teams hang around, don’t make plays defensively to give extra outs. Then keep throwing out the same veterans because you signed them and are unwilling to pivot and cut bait when it doesn’t work out. You just can’t keep giving Pagan inning that matter in any situation. You just knew today that it was going to end badly. Was like staring at a burning fuse heading to a stick of TNT!!!

I think health wise Buxton can’t play CF. Not that he can’t get up and go but watching him stop and after he gets up and goes he is in obvious pain. He either needs a IL stint and a reevaluation of his injury and treatment or worst case he is now our DH for the next 6 yrs. I truly believe he will be a DH only until late August early September. If the Twins are in contention they will give him a cordazone shot in the knee and work him back into CF the last 4 to 6 weeks and have him grind it out through the playoffs as the CFer. The fix in the mean time is the twins need to tell Kepler if he wants to stay on this team he needs to get his at bats in CF. Kepler and Taylor split time in CF opening RF.

Christian Vázquez is Flashing Some Red Flags
High heat replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hoping Vasquez can turn it around a bit but the numbers are very troubling. The issue is the Twins haven’t drafted or developed Catchers and you have no other options passed signing one to a longer term deal this last offseason. I was a Big Ben Rortvedt fan but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Thought he was a perfect paring with Jeffers as he was great defensively and a LH bat. Looks like they moved off Garver as well at the perfect time. Both those trades were wins for the Twins overall. I do hope the Jeffers and Vasquez playing time flips now and Jeffers gets the 60% of the starts and Vasquez takes the latter. Jeffers has looked like the guy with the bat and has looked really improved defensively behind the plate. -
Ranking the Twins' Biggest Disappointments in 2023
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton is at the top of the list if the knee is now completely shot and he is a DH for the remainder of his careeer. Correa will turn it around and hit fine not worried. Can I add Kepler to this list? I thought with the shift ball his approach would go back to trying to pull the ball hard and more balls would be hits and HRs. I guess I drank too much of that koolaid. Miranda I was never sold in last season I figured there was going to be a sophomore slump but after the big spring training I was starting to come around. Mahle might work out if they can sign him long term for I big discount now that’s he is going through TJ.- 43 replies

Hine sight yes they should have. I thinking they thought they had more in guys like Ronny Hernandez and Sand and Winder and an opening for those options rather then making them kick down the door. Pagans 3.5 million was a complete waste and I think we all knew that going into the season. What they keep seeing in him is beyond me.
-
Gotta leave him in the rotation as a rotation arm for the rest of the year. Easy to translate to a bullpen arm if needed. With rotation injuries the depth has been eaten up already. SWR velocity keeps falling not sure he’s going to be effective in MLB at 90 mph with his fastball. I do t want to see Aaron Sanchez again and Hendricks doesn’t impress me.

Is Bailey Ober Sustainable?
High heat replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This article didn’t age well. 7 shutout innings tonight. Health is an issue and I wouldn’t sign him to a long term extension but he seems to give you a chance to win every time he pitches. Might he break down later in the season and not have a long sustained career maybe. Let the good times role and get what you can out of him. Not that adjustment aren’t needed but what he’s been doing works for him. -
He’s a guy who needs to be sent down and then shopped at the trade deadline. He had all this trade value going into the season and think they could have got something for him. He reminds me of a guess hitter like Jason Kubel but when he guesses right he doesn’t hit bombs! I hate guys with “power potential” based on body type but never show it before getting the big league call. Then we are so surprised when they don’t hit for power in the majors. Realistically you have a week or two to figure this out before both Kirilloff and Wallner kick down the door
