The Curious Case of Kala'i Rosario
High heat replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
We will see how Rosario fare at AA. His stock might be at an all time high coming off a MVP season and a power packed fall league. For a 1 tool power only prospect. -
Unless Milwaukee and completely tearing it down and fire sale Peralta is unavailable or would have to grossly overpay. Corbin Burnes is the guy from Milwaukee only has 1 year left at a much bigger salary price. Brewers maybe a little more eager to sell. Could see a move similar to the Arreaz trade where we give up Eddie Julien and get Burnes and a prospect back in return.

What Can the Twins Get For Nick Gordon?
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m guessing Gordon is being held onto as a CF floor. In car all other CF options dry up and sign elsewhere or trades don’t emerge you can go with Gordon in CF to start the yr. If we sign or trade for one Gordon is a easy likely option to cut off the 40 man to make room.- 62 replies

How Will the Twins Handle Yunior Severino in 2024?
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He is a piece you had to add to the 40 or he would absolutely get taken in the rule 5. He does likely need more time at AAA. Hoping he gets a long look at 1B in ST. I’m guessing they will need to bring in an additional 1B bat if they aren’t sure on Kirilloffs health to begin the season. -
If we get to the end of the offseason and Bader is still available for less then 5 million like we did with Salano sure. Kairmeir I think is going to be to rich and get paid. Taylor had a career year and will also get paid and will regress. Im in the camp of play out all the internal options. Spend the limited $ you have on a better starting pitcher instead of dumpster diving.

Shopping in the White Sox Castoff Bin
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Would love to get a Michael Kopech, Big fastball and arm talent. A sweeper would do him wonders. I’m guessing the Sox are willing to give up on him and they absolutely won’t trade him to a division rival.. Giolito is growing on me. If Twins think they can tweak thing and get him on track. He would be a guy you Identify early, need to get him signed and into work with some of our staff and teammates. Liam Hendriks on the flip side would be a guy of late in the offseason he is still a free agent and you have $ to spend (get a better TV revenue deal then we think) bring him in on a reasonable 2 year deal. The problem is the front office basically said they aren’t spending any $ until the finance situation get worked out. Otherwise there budget is what’s on the book.- 21 replies

Does Michael Helman fit into the CF/UTIL conversation?
High heat replied to High heat's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I wasn’t getting at that Helman is going to be a long term solution in CF but by all indications our revenue is going down with the end of the TV deal and many think Austin Martin is the CF of the near future. He may need more time in AAA to start the year but could take over CF sometime in ‘24. If you’re going to sign a CFer like Taylor or Kiermeiar or even Bader for 8 to 12 million a year. Or trade for one and likely spend similar. How much different in production would be letting a platoon of Helman and Castro play CF to start the year be. Or same with comparing him with Farmer as the utility guy and RH bat who can back up the infield and give rest against LH or PH against a LH late in games for Wallner or Julien and be a solid defensive replacement as well. Not saying a star but a useful tool in Rocco’s belt to use late in game to mix and match that is cheap and can do a lot of other things that guys in the currently lineup can’t due. -
Where does Michael Helman fit in? age 27 but was injured almost all or ‘23 plays SS, 2B and CF showed good power in 22 and in the few games he played in 23 from the right side.steal bases consistently and efficiently. People keep talking about CF depth for 24 but I see Martin, Helman, and Kersey all at AAA who play a good CF have multiple option years so they can be sent up and down and have shown skills with the bat at AAA. If the twins want to or need to save $ and want upside along with depth in CF giving a job to one of Kersey Martin or Helman. If someone struggles or gets injured bring up another one. saves you 6 to 12 million on bring in a free agent CF and might let you then spend the $ on a better SP or bring in a late inning reliever. i have just been a big Helman and Martin fan and give Rocco another Willie Castro type that can mix and match and steal a base and make things happen in game is exciting and useful.

Sabato plays a poor defense at only 1B and strikes out like Joey Gallo. Sure he hits an occasional HR and takes some walks. That is not functional on any major league roster. If you strike out at 40% at the AA level you have no hope in the majors. He won’t get selected in the rule 5 and he should get a shot at AAA St. Paul next yr to replace Chris Williams who is a minor league free agent and will likely sign elsewhere

Matt Canterino: Bullpen Force?
High heat replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think they start the season building him up as a starter, if he is still going 2 3 and 4 inning starts by mid may he will go to the bullpen. At 26 he doesn't have much time to build up to starting. If he is healthy He can be a productive bullpen arm right away. You can treat him like you did Varland in 23. But once you move him to the bullpen he is likely stuck there- 42 replies

How about Jack Flaherty? Just 28 and has lost some velo last 2 seasons but was dominate prior. Twins have shown they can add velo with guys like Festa and Varland. Think they can make some adjustments with flaherty and get him back to 21?
-
I think Brooks Lee and Austin Martin are the best yet to come. Guys who take good ABs and put the ball in play. Austin Martin can steal a lot of bases. If he can cover CF fill in in LF and 2B.

Well he stole 34 bases in 2021 and 19 in 22. Yes that’s in the minors and he isn’t likely a huge threat but will probably steal 10 or more if healthy.

I’m up for giving any of these guys on a minor league deal. Hicks is for sure getting a big league deal so he’s a no. Sano might be able to hit 50 Hr in the bang box at CHS field!

I think a personnel change coming up will lead them that way . Deshawn Kersey, Austin Martin, Castro, a full season of Julien, a healthier Lewis (maybe a healthier Buxton) All have good speed and a history Atleast in the minors of stealing bases.

The Twins Would Be Wise to Trade Kyle Farmer
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it depends on the budget. If we are cutting salary by 15 to 20 million Farmer is a guy who can be moved to save $ and is replaceable. I would not move Farmer just to move him and I’m guessing there won’t be any teams willing to give up a bunch for him.- 50 replies

The Best Case Scenario for Byron Buxton
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you found out this yr you can’t just DH him and keep him healthy or productive on the field. He has to play CF if that’s for 5 game or for 50 game or 150 games. You also have to have a backup for when he misses significant time. I hope next year that plan is Castro and Austin Martin. -
Eight Twins Minor Leaguers Heading to Arizona Fall League
High heat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Rosario is the big prospect name seems that not much else going maybe cassetti has a Jeffers development behind the plate and becomes a much better prospect. Thoughts on Veen, lefty relievers are always a need.- 15 replies

Royce and Carlos, what do we really know ??
High heat replied to mrtwinsfan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
They aren’t adding Lee because he hasn’t dominated or really adjusted at AAA yet and he would need to be added to the 40 man and kept on all off-season which he doesn’t need to be added yet causing and additional off-season 40 man crunch. Austin Martin doesn’t really help in that with the arm injury and the poor play at SS he isn’t a major league option at 3B or SS so he doesn’t help positionally. if any 2 of Buxton Lewis or Correa can’t go for the playoffs Luplow maybe on the playoff roster as a RH bat. -
Yes to Stevenson assuming Buxton is completely out. No to Ober because he won’t be need in relief and as many have said a 4th starter is needed to start divisional series if wild card series goes 3 games and I would want Ober as that starter.

Is Kenta Maeda Bullpen Bound?
High heat replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With how bad the middle bullpen is and has been I think you have to have a planned split starts during the playoffs. Joe Ryan has only gone 4 inning his last 4 starts. Start Pablo Lopez game one with Joe Ryan starting game 2 with Maeda taking over as soon as 3rd time thru the order (likely 4 or 5th) having Kenta go through there order twice and hopefully that gets you through Atleast the 8th.- 20 replies

What Should the Twins Do with Trevor Larnach?
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I believe Larnach is out of options after this season, Larnach likely has some trade value for a middle reliever or deep prospect. Larnach and Gordon are likely gone this off-season and a decision on Miranda also needs to be made.- 78 replies

Like many have said he has a 20 day rehab assignment, I also don’t see a fit on this team in 2024 being he will be arbitration eligible, and a worse defender then Castro and hits lefthanded like every other OF option in the organization. Twins will likely look to trade him this off-season for a bucket of ball or cut him. Too bad he was another guy who likely was seen as having some good value on the trade market a year ago likely will get very little to nothing for him in the off-season coming off poor performance and a major injury for a fringe defensive SS 2B CF before.

I like Pete Alonso! I think it will take much more than what you have offered to get him. Which Twins don’t fit well with unless you are vastly overpaying in prospect capital. If the Mets would take any of our young extra pieces for him I’d make the deal. (Extra pieces being Miranda, Larnach, Winder, Woods Richardson Celestino, Prato)

With 2 wins in Texas and get away day tomorrow should the twins do the piggy back again. Let Maeda start and follow with a scheduled Cole Sands? Gotta give the day off to DuranJax and Thielbar. The rest of the pen pitched tonight as well. Maybe we’ll put up a 10 spot early and it’s no big deal!
