Is Carlos Correa Really Going to Get Paid?
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am really not sure that is certain. A guy who is hitting .260 with a 425 SLG and is a 3 WAR players. I know 2022 is likely an outlier but im not 100% certain he would get that same deal or offer.- 45 replies

He is not going to sign a contract making 35 million a year or more next season. Now He will likely sign a contract for more then the 70 million left on his deal. So he could opt in for 2023 and again gamble on himself and have an opportunity again in 2023 Offseason. But he then gives up any leverage to even negotiate with MN and would almost certainly have to take less AAV per year on an extension. If he opts out I would guess he would sign a deal similar to the Trevor Story deal. I think the big fear for him is that all the big spending teams have there SS or have a better one in sight, Or spent all the $ they are willing to spend (Yankees resigning Judge) if he ends up he is still holding looking for a deal again this winter with a team he wants to play for. I would put me at about a 70/30 still 70 percent chance he opts out but can see where he would opt in and replay it back for 2023.

I believe it helps there case if they have to file for a 5th year option. Not sure exactly how that plays out with guys just drafted.

I think it all depends on your definition of “better” the one thing consistent with Berrios was that he was taking the ball every 5th day and 32 starts a yr. That in itself has a ton of value! SWR does not seem to be that, Now what Berrios you got every 5th day was a mistery. Some days that fast ball was moving all over the place and he was putting it outside corner and running it in hitters hands and that curve had sharp late action. Other starts the breaking ball was a big arc and hitter saw it coming and hammered it when it was in the zone and laid off it out. The fastball had velocity but was straight or all over the place. SWR seems to not have the stuff that Berrios had but he does seem to know how to pitch mixes 4 pitches well and moves them around the zone. He struggles when his control isn’t there. We will have to see if he can refine that control and if that mix translates to the next level.

Week in Review: Running into a Wall
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they don’t go on a run here you can pretty well put a fork in this team! if you can’t put up runs and win against Texas what makes you think you are against the Astros or Yankees or Cleveland- 15 replies

The 3 starting pitchers of Mahle, Gray and Ryan being solid every start from here forward they should be 2,3,4 Arraez continuing to hit is 1. They will need a big month from at least one of Kepler Correa or Polanco to have a chance.

If he will sign for 50 million or less and buy out a arbitration season it sounds like a good deal. There also isn’t anything wrong with going through his sophomore season especially because I don’t think he will count as a super 2 because he came up late this season. Harris isn’t a good comparison because he is 21 3 yrs younger, a top 50 prospect and plays a premium defensive position. I’d be more excited about Miranda if we saw him more at 3B and knew he would be the starter there for the next decade. 1B are easy to find and I believe Arraez will be there moving forward. I would be much more interested in signing Arraez to an extension this off-season. That bat is the real deal and keeping him at 1B DH and the occasional fill in at 2B has kept the knees healthy. Defensively I have really liked him at 1B he has learn the position well on the fly and has nice soft hands. I know he isn’t the traditional 1B with massive power but still can’t deny how good the bat and his eye at the plate is.
-
The roller cost view of Gordon throughout his baseball career! He is a utility player, different from Arraez he isn’t an everyday player but in todays baseball with 3 man benches and a back up catcher a guy who can fill in well at multiple position especially up the middle has huge value. He is a streaky hitter which is foreseeable for a guy who doesn’t get consistent playing time. You have to like the power that he has shown lately. I do think your view will change of him from this article if you give him the starting LF spot the remainder of the season because the bat won’t continue at this pace. Love him as a utility player and feel he should continue in his utility role the remainder of the yr and seen as that for ‘23.

Moran's control seems to be getting better and he has a ERA under 2. I think he can be an option for more high leverage spots.

Right!!! if they dont piggie back Sand today with Archer and let both go 4 innings. They can then send Sand back down after game and cut Pagan and can bring up 2 of them.

Yes all are better options! Moran will be back up as soon a his 10 day wait period is over from being sent down from the OF injuries and trade deadline, was just a roster shuffle casualty. Stotman if they think he has found control, but what i saw of him he was no where around the plate and wouldnt last in the mlb. Henriquez has gotten shelled at AAA maybe a consistant 2 pitch mix and fastball sits consistant high 90 to 100 might work. Sisk is a side arm lefty, which dont traditionally last long in the MLB, but has put up great number consistantly since being brought to the twins organization. You have to make a decision on him at seasons end because he needs to be added to the 40 man roster and he would get picked in rule 5 if left unprotected.

Could Carlos Correa Opt Back in for 2023?
High heat replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How many of the big spending teams need a SS and are able to pay? Red Sox signed Story and would like rather bring back Bogaerts. The Dodgers possibly but would they rather spend on the known Trey Turner? Yankees are going to be shelling out a 1/2 a billion dollars to Judge, can they have 300+ million dollar deal on Stanton, Judge, Cole also while paying a pretty penny to Rizzo Donaldson and Chapman? Can they fit a Carlos Correa in that budget? Would be a giant luxury tax hit for sure. Padres, Detroit, Texas, Giants, white sox, Rays all in long term deals with SS.- 88 replies

I still feel the front office knows '22 is just a mirage. There isnt enough assets to trade for or even available to fix this teams needs in '22. If we can stay competitive and maybe win the division great but we have no pitching to even remotely be competitive in a play off series. The players they brought in at the deadline are going to be here next year and that is key. The players they moved (outside of Povich and Hhijjar) were required to be added to 40 man at seasons end and were already blocked by young players at the major league level. I think what this organization has found out was all the pitching prospects that had injuries in 2021 and we thought had to do with missing 2020 are still dealing with injuries and that maybe they are just injury prone and may never make it with all the lost development time. You cant keep so many young pitchers on the 40 man roster who cant contribute in the majors.
-
Here is a perfect pick! A guy you liked that was drafted a round or more ahead of projection but will likely be able to sign under slot $. You can use that $ to sign the #48 pick who, coming off of injury could easily go back to college and is likely why he was still available at 48 due to signability and injury.

Week in Review: Pitching Plunge
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Plunge from the shallow depths they were already at!!!! pitching doesn’t get figured out soon this team won’t make the playoffs!!! Bullpen is the titanic taking on water!!! Duran and Jax pitched well this far but Duran doesn’t have a track record or health. He maybe a ticking time bomb! The starters they brought in pitched well to this point but since mid June all the magic is gone and the well has dried. The 4 and innings and fly on to the bullpen doesn’t work!!! Have to get Atleast 2 bullpen arms. ASAP maybe Ober comes back and is as good as ever and Winder can continue his recent success. Bundy isn’t functionable anymore, 4 inning from Archer at best kills the pen and Smeltzer will turn back into the pumpkin here soon. -
I believe there is more going on with this injury then Twins letting on. I dont Think Buck or the Twins want him to sit out months so playing through it is the only option. I believe it is not only effecting his swing but his approach as well. I guy who was willing to put the ball in play and beat out hits with his speed, or line balls in the gaps and make singles into doubles. Now i think he is just selling out for the long ball as self preservation. Id bet that the week the season ends he goes in for surgery to have his knee scoped. (what Sano had done earlier in the year)

The Five Best Relief Pitcher Targets for the Twins
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bass is probably the only one get able without having to over pay due to team control or within division. I would kick the tires on Effross tho, he might be a guy worth getting with team control and could learn and work with Joe Smith.- 18 replies

Minnesota’s Return for Berrios Continues to Look Better
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
It would be interesting to see if the Twins are trying to tweak Martin's swing to get more power and the adjustment is a struggle. He does appear to be standing a bit more upright. Could it just be that tweaking Martin's swing has taken away from his bat to ball skills? If he doesnt develop power and is just a solid contact hitter with a good eye at the plate and can play good outfield defense with the ability to cover 3B and 2B. I still think that is an extremely valuable piece. (see Whit Merrifield) Wood -Richardson has been interesting, well see how he continues to develop, he really isnt far off and could be at AAA soon.- 69 replies

Yes please on pitching in the first round! Twins have be successful finding and developing college hitters later in rounds and have a nice crop of hitters in the minors as well as some young guys in the majors.

I feel Miranda is being groomed to be moved! he obviously isn’t preferred over Urshela at 3B, I think the defense isn’t that good. He is given at bats in favorable matchups. You still have Urshela next season and you also have Steers in AAA. I’m for moving Miranda for a solid multi yr return.

Noah Miller Quietly Proving Prospect Value
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
A kid at 19 20 who at A ball can control the strike zone BB to K and has good bat to ball skills is what you want to see. The power comes later. Also the very low error amount is also great. The little tricks and anticipation that comes with playing at SS take a ok fielder to a good fielder or good to great. Miller has the arm for SS so that’s a great sign. He is a kid I DO NOT want to see moved at the deadline -
The Potential Cost of Acquiring Pitching in Trades
High heat replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I suggested it because he would likely only cost $. 25 million over the next yr and a half, he hasn’t been great but he is a control pitcher and would likely go well with th twins good defense compared to the Cubs terrible defense. he adds you a veteran playoff experienced arm and I believe the Twins are still under budget.- 41 replies

Were the Twins Wrong About Ryan Jeffers?
High heat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The bat has been the most disappointing thing by far. He has been a solid pitch framer and and can block pitchers pretty well, that has made up for his stiffness and lack of big arm behind the plate. It is mid June and hitting sub .200 without a ton of walks or power is terrible!!! I think you end up rolling with him and Sanchez the rest of the season but if it doesn’t pick up this off-season we’ll be looking for 2 new catchers. -
The Potential Cost of Acquiring Pitching in Trades
High heat replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t want to give up big future pieces for a starter. wonder what Kyle Hendricks would cost? I feel the bullpen need more help then the starting staff, like 3 additional. Bullpen has been taxed with a lot of inning thus far.- 41 replies
