  1. When you have a bunch of players who taking poor at bats and playing sloppy defense it causes team wide snowballs like we saw in August and September. I don’t think Rizzo is sexy or has much upside at this point but the down side is a terribly feelings firstbaseman and bad at bats
  2. How confident are you and the Twins in Miranda’s defense at 1B as well as staying healthy and productive. Miranda’s bat was terrible the second half (after that 13 for 13 streak). The power evaporated. I think they are going to bring in Rizzo to give a good defender there as well as a platoon bat option. He provides a baseline of good professional at bats and solid defense. Could keep this year from completely derailing and being a complete disaster. No market for him so 2 or 3 million hopefully get it done
  3. When you are a 1 tool player you need to stay healthy and max out that effective 1 tool. The breaking ball adjustment needs to occur and recognizing and doing damage to them is key. While laying off them when they are off the plate. we’ll see what 25 brings at AA.
  4. Excellent analysis!!! Im not a big Keirsey fan for this team because he hits left handed and doesn’t offer a replacement in game in the corner OF. I was not impressed by Martin with the bat and with the glove. Him getting sent down late in the yr was a reflection of that. I was a big Michael Helman fan because he can play adequate defense everywhere both infield and OF. (Similar to Castro defensively) I hope that means they are keeping Castro. Bader offers CF insurance along with a RH platoon and an in game pinch hitter/runner and defensive replacement for Wallner and or Larnach. The versatility over the other 3 and coverage for multiple positions and scenarios was why he made the most sense and the most $. Team has to get better defensively and stealing and taking the extra base in critical situations.
  5. He is a great story and happy to see him in St. Paul. When you’re limited to 2B he can’t really come up and help break through in a utility role. Lots of injuries or complete failures ahead of him would need to occur. Im more excited about Will Hollland now that Helman is gone. As a better defender and much more versitile along with more speed. If he can hit .300 again in AAA he might get a shot to replace Castro.
  6. I actually like the Bader signing and thought he was the Twins #1 choice last offseason but took a big deal with the Mets. I am worried $ wise that they are going to dump both Paddack and Castro. I was hoping they were going to keep Helman for the super utility role. But maybe new ownership has said to spend a little to push this team and Castro doesn’t get moved !!! Here is to hoping.
  7. I like to hear the defensive profile of guys early on and at the lower levels. I feel like hitting profiles always change as players mature and pitching gets better. Glad to hear the smooth and looks to stick at SS
  8. I don’t think he is ideal but he is a solid defender at 1B with us not having anyone who has played significant time at 1B on the roster. Along with have a championship pedigree and can be had for a low price he seems like the perfect fit in the Twins mind. I would be suprised if the Twins go into ST with the current OFers on the roster and no one with 1B experience.
  9. I have liked Mountcastle but he hasn’t been good at first and he hasn’t been an exceptionally good hitter at 1B either. I could see them moving Castro and Paddack for him, if they have confidence in Michael Helman playing the super utility role. (I don’t think they do) I think a salary trade and a Rizzo signing is coming tho
  10. I have a feeling one maybe 2 of our currently outfielder options are going to get moved in a trade (Martin, Larnach, Castro, Kersey) Im not sure they are set yet at 1B and this surely proves they are not sold on any of the back up CF options. I think a trade for a 1B or salary relief to allow them to sign a a1B is still on order. My guess is Rizzo is signed.
  11. I think there philosophical works as long as they keep developing pitchers and flipping those who don’t cut it as starters into relievers by adding velo. I think guys like Varland and Morris and maybe even Hendricks will be successful relievers once fully converted into the relief role.
  12. There is a lot of outside factors that go into a successful campaign and a complete failure in a season for a player. I hope they have learned from some of there many blunders. It seems that making moves just to make a move has been the biggest issue and been to focused on a “good deal” even if they player doesn’t fit. I actually think there are some decent players that would fit still left in free agency if they squeeze ownership for a few million. (Rizzo, Ramon Laureano)
  13. I really can’t blame the FO, you went into the offseason at or over budget and the entire league knows it. I do think there is some moves left to be made and after the December flurry of moves the teams with $ seem to have there rosters set. There is still some semi intriguing FA if any $ can be found or reallocated. I actually like Rizzo as an option at 1B to go with Miranda. Remon Laureano as a 4th outfielder.
  14. I’d be ok giving up SWR Vasquez and a middle 10 to teens prospect like Gonzalez and a guy like Larnach or Martin for Cease. I would see that as a giant steel!
  15. The Twins biggest weakness has been speed and defense and we want to get rid of the guys with the most speed (atleast stolen base wise) and good versitile defender. For a true middle reliever. I don’t like it at all. I think are better off looking to trade Larnach (poor defender no speed, trouble staying healthy) who likely has similar value and making Castro the mostly everyday LFer. Then if the Twins want to Castro would likely have greater value at the trade deadline due to defensive flexibility. Moving Castro would put a big reliance on Michael Helman and likely Will Holland who haven’t stayed healthy or hit in the majors at all. I am ok with moving Castro because of his value and impending free agency. But I think you would have to get significantly more than a middle reliever.
  16. I don’t think the roster moves are not done, I think one of the starters gets traded and it’s a moot point. I’m just not sure it will be Paddock. I think one of the young starters SWR with a guy like Larnach and Vasquez get moved in a deal. Bring in a near mlb ready prospect. Then the Twins sign Rizzo to play 1B.
  17. Matt Canterino might be a very nice late inning option. Like Stewart he has to find some healthy and is hard to count or rely on but you have a successful transfer to the bullpen from Varland a healthy Stewart and Canterino added with Jax and Duran I can see why on paper it looks deep and very good. I just having trouble holding my breath for these things.
  18. Well Ronny Henriquez is out of minor league options and i don’t see a place in the bullpen for him right now. He should be number 1 for that reason. I think Helman is in line to play the Farmer/Castro role with 3 options left. I can’t see them trading for Gasper and then DFAing him. Canterino can be a Stewart type reliever if he can stay healthy. If they Twins don’t see Camargo as a big league catcher defensively they he would be next in line. (I think he’s a big league catcher)
  19. If he can hit like Schwarber and play defense like Kepler you have a really good player! Even Joey Gallo in his Texas days was a good to great player. My fear is he remind me a lot of a guy Travis Snider out of the Toronto/Pirates organization. Touted as a stretch CF with a big arm good power and plate discipline in the minors. Didnt make enough good contact in the majors and power didn’t translate. Bulked up as he got older to add power and lost defensive range and didn’t increase consistent power.
  20. Jair Camargo isn't a viable MLB catcher and shouldn't be viewed as anything more than organizational depth. How did you come to this conclusion? He has a cannon for an arm, I know he is a big dude and doesn’t move great behind the plate. In ‘23 he hit 23 HR at AAA and put up power number after getting healthy last season.
  21. Jair Camargo caught 400 innings at AAA last seasons in a season where he missed time and another 700 innings in 23. If you have watched him play he has a cannon from behind the plate and moves well for being like 250lbs. He also has some good power in his bat. Gasper hasn’t caught 400 inning in the past 3 seasons combined. He isn’t more than a guy who could pinch hit for a catcher late in a game and let him finish an inning or 2. Im not going to calm to be a Cartaya expert but indications are he is pretty solid as well behind the plate. I not saying they are as good as Vasquez or a 1 to 1 replacement, but Camargo can absolutely hold his own as a back up catcher in the big leagues defensively.
  22. Camargo has been the catcher at AAA for 2 seasons now Cartaya spent half of last season at AAA. Those guys are both capable big league catchers. Might they be a drop off defensively from Vasquez or not as productive a bat as Jeffers but both are big league capable catchers.
  23. Very nice catching depth add with high upside. You would assume Vasquez or Jeffers will be on the move shortly.
  24. Sounds like the Twins have acquired him for minor league pitcher Jose Vasquez. Atleast another option behind the plate if Jeffers or Vasquez are traded.
  25. They are going to need high end major league production from many of these guys this season to have a chance. You going to have to get production at 1B from someone making the league minimum, you’re going to need high end production from an outfielder. Along with someone who can fill in CF and someone who can fill a productive bench role as well all from guys currently in the system. Thats not to mention filling in the holes in the bullpen. A lot to ask from a system but here we are.
