  1. It ain’t “Dean and Jerry” but the Twins now have “Martin and Lewis” (Austin snd Royce) as potential future “shortstops or wherever they end up” type players. “My Friend Irma” and I both like it.
  2. Trade Robles for a cheap box of rocks after his past performance
  3. Overpaying can haunt too. Bobby Bonilla.
  4. Not to be a jerk here - But - Has TD ever posted a prediction of a trade and then that trade actually happened exactly as predicted? Check the archives!
  5. As Bud Grant has said, durability is as important as ability.  Royce Lewis has been touted as a potential future Twins CenterFielder. Make offers, but Byron is free to reject them.  Don’t bet the farm on this fragile player.

  6. Part of me hopes Berrios stays, but the rest of me, my brain, says the Twins better not turn down any reasonable offer. After tonight’s great performance, the price just got a little higher.
  7. Arraez at 2B with Polanco as super-sub (SS,2B snd Dh). Go to the free agent market to pick up a SS for defense I prefer Polanco in the role as super-sub over Arraez because Jorge is a switch-hitter who is better to move around the Diamond to sub for players who have trouble with particular pitchers.
  8. Just for fun, I’ll rain on this parade. Target Field is a much better place to see a ballgame than the Trop or whatever that monstrosity in St Pete is called today. Nellie got a big downgrade as far as his place of work. Worst ballpark in MLB. Worse than Oak-town. but I’m still cheering for him snd the Rays this year.
  9. I don’t want a “Cruz watch” thread second guessing the trade. Last night, Nelson Cruz hit a homer in his second at bat. I’d still make the trade and hope his success continues. No second guessing, because he wasn’t going to make a difference for the Twins for the rest of this tough season. He will contribute to success in St Pete. The Rays’ players are exceedingly positive on Nellie’s presence in the dugout. Twins fans are not surprised.
  10. Arraez. Sano, Larnach and Rooker are all likrly candidates for a potential Twins DH by Committee, while backing up other positions. Miguel Sano, however, may never be able to cut down his strike-outs. So, the Twins need another right handed bat to be ready if Miggy doesn’t cut it next year. Rooker is the most likely player in waiting. Gotta keep him.
  11. Cleveland was the perfect team to pay homage to the Negro Leagues by naming its team after a negro league team. The Cleveland Indians brought Larry Doby to the American League, the first black player in the AL. The first black player to start playing for an existing MLB team in the city where it still plays (Jackie Robinson started in Brooklyn). The great Cleveland Negro League Team was The Cleveland Buckeyes. Maybe Ohio State would get upset, but screw it - that would have been a better name. Larry Doby played for the Newark Eagles. So how about the Cleveland Eagles? Why not honor a famous Negro League team - The Cleveland Monarchs, The Cleveland Grays???? Many of those great teams barnstormed around the nation and were not beholden entirely to their city. Instead of stomping on over a century of baseball history, Cleveland could have renewed some of it. At least, the Guardians ends in the letter “S”. All teams should end in “S” or “X”.
  12. I just think it’s amazing that Washington is now viewed as a “big market” team. The Senators came here in 1961 because they couldn’t make a buck in DC. Maybe, it says more about the growth since 1961 of government and private industry servicing government in Suburban DC (northern Virginia has some of the richest counties in the USA). Still, I don’t view The Nats as a big market team. Baltimore still has a team 65 miles away. Some smaller markets (like St Louis) just spend more than other smaller market teams.
  13. This puts Alex are on the 60 Il, I think.
  14. If Larnach looked a little more comfortable at the plate, I wouldn’t be against a Kepler trade. But even then, Larnach is not a great defensive fielder, Buxton isn’t durable and could be traded or play out his last year, Kirilloff is better at 1B, Arraez is a defensive liability (at least in last night’s game). I think the Twins should hold onto Kepler, who at least provides above average to excellent defense, and has decent at-bats. .
  15. With one exception, the Yankees would be particularly dumb to be sellers or buyers at this point. They are back too far with too many teams to leapfrog. They have a chance, so they shouldn’t sell but the chance isn’t big enough to dump any elite prospects. However, making a trade for Buxton makes sense shirt-term and long-term. They would help themselves this year snd be in a better position to sign a longterm superstar in center field (as long as Buxton’s health issues are just a series of weird flukes). However, if Buxton’s durability problems persist or even cut his career short, they are one of the few teams that can afford to eat that longterm contract, shrug it off and sign more players.
  16. According to the article, the Twins are only “reluctant” to trade players with team control after this season. This makes sense (except arguably for unloading Josh Donaldson snd his contract), The Twins we’re favorites to win the Central this year and could field a World Series caliber team next year. Max Kepler and Jorge Polanco are producing again, Byron Buxton can be a top ten major leaguer if he stays healthy …. Still, they should keep a high asking price on Berrios and Buxton and consider taking an “offer they can’t refuse”.
  17. The trades at the trade deadline will determine much about the longterm role played by Luis Arraez. For example, think about what happens if Josh Donaldson is traded (with Arraez and Jose Miranda as longterm options at 3B). . Nevertheless, despite any future developments Polanco should stay here and remain longterm at 2B. Shortstop is a position the Twins will need to address with another player, Royce Lewis or another free agent. Frankly, I’d like to see Wander Javier succeed just so the organist can play the stupid “Happy Wanderer” song when he hits a home run or makes another great play - the crowd then can belt out “Valderi, Valdera, valder- ra-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha …”.
  18. The Twins took three catchers in the draft, so their need for depth at that position is less than you think.
  19. Good. Bump another game until after the trade deadline. That way the Twins are more likely to keep trade-able players healthy. Then, after the deadline, we get another game to start evaluating the future!!!!!
  20. I was so optimistic about this season. Now I’m more interested in seeing the Twins after the trading deadline than the current group. I recognize the last half could be brutal - but I’m more curious about the future than the present.
  21. That’s a tough one. I picked Charlie Barnes who is at least at AAA. He’s a lefty. Who knows if he can “help”.
  22. I voted against firing RB. Still, Dougie Baseball would be a more entertaining manager. Is Ozzie Guillen willing to give managing another try???
  23. Read today’s Souhan Column in the STRIB. He takes the position that the Twins should retain Donaldson, because nobody else can fire up and push the rest of this group of “too nice” players.
  24. A totally different direction would have the Twins hire Doug Mientkiewicz as manager.
  25. Another disappointing Twins game ended a few hours ago. I find myself recording and fastforwarding through these games. It’s 8:53 and I’m the first comment. Says a lot about the Twins - it’s not you Seth.
