  1. The masks at Target Field are being replaced by paper bags. I’ll still go to the ballpark - but much of the games I watch at home on TV are being watched on fast forward.
  2. The correct attitude for this year’s beer-drinking Twins fan is SURLY. No need for any other word on the label of their Twins beer.
  3. Look at the LOB (including a bases loaded situation) and try to feel that good about this.
  4. Free beer or helmet sundae. That may get more of the 12-18year old crowd to show up. The Twins need more younger fans. The Twins would have a flood of 18-20 year olds show up, if the Governor could issue a one-beer reprieve on the 21 year old drinking law to them - and Twins offer one free beer per vax to them.
  5. Twins should be moving towards becoming a younger team. Barring a massive winning streak that puts them in contention, The Twins should look to trading Maeda, Cruz, and Donaldson. They should see what they can get for players they could lose after 2022 (Buxton, Berrios). They can look to make a change of scenery trade for players who are underproducing here (Sano, Kepler ...). and with the other club in the trade.
  6. I’ll be breathing the fresh air I have enjoyed at Target Field ever since it opened - I’ve been immunized by Pfizer.
  7. I am taking total credit for this. Now if I could just waive my magic wand and end Total System Failure 2.0.
  8. Outdoor transmission is less than 1% (some articles will say less than 10% - but the actual estimate is under 1%). The State and Feds have ended the mask mandates for vaccinated persons outside and inside. The Twins may disagree and still somehow feel there is some scientific justification for masks indoors (in bathrooms and inside area of “Legends” Club, in the bar areas ... ). But it’s time to let the vaccinated fans enjoy the fresh air outside rather than wearing our portable Metrodomes on our faces. Mayor Frey and Twins leadership: please decide before I go to Tuesday’s game. Why muffle the few cheers this team will get this season?
  9. Now they're three for three on this year's retreads. Kubel -Out Bartlett - Out Guerrier - Out No refound glory with these guys. But they got them on the cheap, and glory can be refound sometimes. Look at Scott Kazmir!!!
  10. Just did my research on John Henry Lloyd - SS star of the negro leagues in the dead ball era. So, I hereby change my list: 1. Honus Wagner 2. John Henry Lloyd (never got a chance to prove himself in the majors) 3,4. Joe Cronin/Derek Jeter (TIE - What a performance last night - I hate to let that sway me, BUT!) 5. Ozzie Smith Dick Lundy was another great SS from the negro leagues, and may deserve to place ahead of Ozzie Smith. Cal played too many games at 3B
  11. It's been a great run for Derek Jeter but he is not the greatest shortstop of all time. That one goes to Honus Wagner, stats longevity and fielding (and someone from the dead ball era has to be listed as the best at one position - Wagner seems most deserving to me). I put Jeter ahead of Cal Jr. and Ozzie Smith in the post-TV era. Joe Cronin is in there from pre-TV Others like Robin Yount played too many years at other positions. 1. Honus Wagner 2. Joe Cronin 3. Derek Jeter 4. Ozzie Smith 5. Cal Ripken Jr.
  12. It would be incredibly stupid for the Twins to call up Trevor May for his first start after sitting out with an injury. Who knows? Maybe he'll stay and be the next Cy Young for the next 20 years. However, it would seem best to see how he looks after his injury layoff before calling him up to the big leagues.
  13. There was a bit of whining over the Twins dropping Mastro and Presley and then picking up Sam Fuld. Mastro has been horrible for the Jays and Presley has been slightly less effective than Fuld from what I see of the Stats. I'm happy with Fuld. Anyone disagree???
  14. Buxton's hitless in his first three games after returning. One BB.
  15. Doug Mientkiewicz would also be entertaining and maybe I'd finally learn how to spell his name.
  16. The argument against Dozier is the obvious one given by the OP. There are just too many great and very good 2nd Baseman in the AL. Cano and Altuve (required Houston All-Star and he's deserving anyway) are locks to get in. Then it may be nobody else or a one in three shot between Dozier, Pedroia and Kinsler!
  17. Notice that Pat Diamond wasn't on my lefty list!!!! OOOPs I meant Scott Diamond!!! He's that forgettable!
  18. Hughes, Meyer, Gibson, Nolasco, and the best lefty starter they have: Kris Johnson, Logan Darnell, Sean Gilmartin or one acquired in trade or via free agency!
  19. Correia and Willingham are trade-able. It would be crazy to trade Hughes, Morales and Suzuki.
  20. Another idea: Move the Twins AAA affiliate to Fargo-Moorhead, which has a similar population in its metro area to Rochester. It's general geographic area has fewer people, but the local fans are Twins fans already and would probably have more interest in a Twins affiliate than those who live in Upstate New York. Moreover, a few of those fans of the Fargo affiliate would then be encouraged to see the players they followed at Target Field both on TV (better ratings) and on a few extra trips to the big league park. Maybe a few Twin Cities fans would go to Fargo to catch a game. The Team would play in the Pacific Coast League with teams from Des Moines, Omaha . . . Leave the low A team in Cedar Rapids.
  21. Meyer is a September call-up (probably), possibly earlier. We will probably not have to wait for next year. The Twins have the luxury of having a number of good starters at the Big league and AA level. There's no good reason to rush Berrios. Why rush him over the best performers in this group: Meyer, May, Darnell, Kris Johnson and Gilmartin? Also, Pino has an opportunity on Thursday to start showing his worth. Hopefully, Correia continues to pitch well and the TYwins can trade him and open up some room in their rotation (then again, that's what we used to think about having too much talent in the outfield)
  22. Matt Wieters leads on the ballotsx and is injured which increases Suzuki's chances. Kurt is having a career year and is likely to be rewarded. Dozier plays a position with too many great players. Houston will have one all-star and it has to be 2nd Baseman Jose Altuve. Robinson Cano will be voted in. If an additional 2nd Baseman is added it could be Ian Kinsler or Dustin Pedroia (or they may overtake Cano).
  23. By the way, is anyone out there willing to bet that Kurt Suzuki will have a better batting average than Joe Mauer at the end of the season? I'm even willing to bet that WAR and other stats will favor Mauer by the end of this season.
  24. For those who are both Baseball and Wrestling fans, I see a parallel between the fans' reaction to Mauer and the WWE fans' reaction to John Cena. The casual fan will accept them as their favorite player but the more than casual fan is quick to boo both of them. Mauer and Cena exude "uncoolness" and "goody-goody". However, in both cases, the casual fan has it right. Because over time, both are at the top level; they are Hall of Fame caliber performers in their chosen professions. Look at the stats of many Hall of Famers and you will see one or two years where their numbers dipped. In his second season, Rod Carew hit 273. George Brett had several years where he batted in the .280s and one where he batted in the .250s. The currently adored and retiring Derek Jeter slumped to a batting average of .270 in 2010 before bouncing back to more productive numbers.
  25. After watching the Michael Sam publicity, I figured out what bothers me. It's not just the Christian athletes. I really think the TV, radio and written commentary spends too much time on the "up close and personal". It seems like it's at least half of the Olympic coverage. I'm getting sick of the TV broadcast cutting away to the family, wife or girlfriend, the gay straight or parental kiss of the boyfriend/girlfriend/child, the religious views of a player, the philanthropy of a player, bringing the players' kids out on the field . . . A little bit can be illuminating, but I really want to watch the game and commentary on the games and players (more stats and less fluff)
