  1. I think Baddoo is quickly becoming my favorite non-top prospect. I think he could really jump up these rankings in a year.
  2. One of the few knocks on Gibson in the minors that I remember reading was that he lacked the "meanness" to be an effective starter. He was too nice. I assume that meant not throwing inside, too much nibbling etc.
  3. fip and fwar are tied together. I think there's enough doubt about fip out there to go with b-ref for most. k% is 24th on fangraphs (not that there' that much difference) but pretty good pitchers can still live in that area. Gotta admit, I didn't know they tracked QS%.
  4. At the break, Santana is #2 in IP, 4th in ERA, 5th in ERA+, 6th in WAR, 1st in both CG and SHO, 5th in WHIP and 7th in WPA. Seems like a reasonable pick for the all-star game.
  5. Well, on mlb's list Mauricio is #10, Valera is #21 and Rodriguez is #9. Marte is #3. That's probably closer to the industry consensus. Daniel Flores, #2 on both lists, signed for 3.1m. Franco, #1, got 3.8m. The bigger question, in my mind, is why did Pereira, #4 on both lists, sign with the Yankees for only 1.5m? Are the Yankees doing a Red Sox and funneling him money?
  6. Good for both and both are deserving. And, more importantly, my pre-season prediction that Sano would be an all-star was correct!
  7. He's getting 3m because that's how much this market has valued him at.
  8. Good thing you're not a professional scout. Every single reputable draft scouting place had him as a 1st or 2nd rounder. This crap comes up every year. Buxton started slow in 2012 and people said he was a wasted pick. People wanted Morneau shipped out for Wiggington. People could only focus on Mauer's faults. Back before WAR recalculated his value, people complained about Hunter all the time. Berrios was roughed up last year and people jumped off the bandwagon left and right. Baseball is a game of failure. Rooker's going to have ups and downs before he makes the majors (he will make the majors). I have no idea what the best way to be a fan of a team is. I tend toward trusting professional evaluators that I have been able to read. Making the majors is hard. But utterly nonsense posts like yours - a first round pick is a 30th round - seem unnecessarily mean spirited and puts you in a position of hoping that a major prospect in our system fails so you can "be right."
  9. Nice to see Baddoo and Miranda have strong starts. I really liked those picks last year because of the upside but they are far away.
  10. Well, it's official. Nice to see the Twins are loading up on high toolsy guys.
  11. I know a few people who do options but they are much better at the market than I am and, over the long run, they've made money but they've had big losses too. It's too much like day trading for me.
  12. As for pitchers, Romero, Thorpe, Wells and Jorge were also low money signings the last few years. Ynoa was big money, I believe.
  13. The Red Sox also got caught cheating the system last year by giving bonus to lesser players and those players sharing it with guys they wanted to sign.
  14. Nice to see Gonsalves and Romero pitching well in AA. I hope they get promoted to AAA this year (or the majors). Blankenhorn is doing well after a mid-season slump as well.
  15. I bet Buxton is faster than lint
  16. We did make a purchase of HP in the low 50s. I like the dividend even though it might take a while for it to get back up where it was a few years ago.
  17. They drafted a few guys late that they could sign for overslot amounts and use the rest of the money. I'm not smart enough to say player ranked 102 is better than player ranked 152 on BA'd draft board. I just want them to sign the extra guys with the money.
  18. I do hope we use all our money plus the 5% over amount. But that would require the Pohlad's to spend money so ...
  19. I think this ranking looks pretty good. Both Gordon and Lewis will be top 35ish prospects next year. That's kinda cool. I've warmed up to Lewis. I really wanted a pitcher but Lewis really is the type of guy that the Twins have drafted for so long. Toolsy HS batter. And it's nice to see Gordon hitting well in AA. Now that Trea Turner's OBP is below .300 perhaps we'll have less second guessing of that pick.
  20. Maybe. He had options of going back to school. 600k is around #91 pick and BA had him listed as #95. Seems reasonably fair.
  21. Fister is probably done but he's not that far removed from being a 4+ WAR pitcher. I'd take a flier on him.
  22. Damn it, I suck. Yep, you're right. He came back and made 5 starts in low A and then was promoted up to A+ for 11 more starts.
