  1. I don't hate Lewis on a personal level. He seems like a great pick but I don't see why we'd take a HS guy in this draft. And I doubt he'd take a huge discount as a Boras guy. So why do we pass on guys who might be able to help the current core?
  2. Well, if the report that the scouts wanted Lewis and analytics wanted McKay is true, it means that Falvey is getting swayed by his scouts. I mean, maybe Lewis is the next Jeter but this seems like a bad pick for the Twins.
  3. But someone is going to fall regardless. I don't want to go cheap at 1/1 just so I can get the #29 guy at 35. Top guys tumble on their own - Hudson, Buehler, Funkhowser, etc.
  4. Man, if they take Lewis they better have a damn good explanation and if they don't spend all of their draft pool I'm going to go ballistic.
  5. BA's last mock - http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2017-mlb-mock-draft-5-0/#cLWih6zodqz7Vg26.97 Also have the Twins taking Lewis. Gad. We're bring Boras into our locker room and not drafting a pitcher?
  6. Yeah, I'm not too upset about passing on Greene. I wanted a college pitcher so I'll be ok with McKay. I might want three college pitchers, depending on how the draft falls.
  7. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/210960834/v1469243883/live-2017-mlb-draft-day-1 is my link but it's in and out. Adobe flash doens't like to work with this and Twins Daily both running. ****ing TD.
  8. Because you'd lose the value of the pick. Let's say Twins take Greene and say, sign for 2m less then slot. Even if he does that, he's not going to agree until 5 minutes before the deadline which gives you very little time to get that 2m spread to other signees. And if he pulls out after you've allocated those dollars, you lose your picks next year. This almost happened to the Astros with Jacob Nix.
  9. I think it's more what are the Mariners doing? But has anyone noticed Schwarber is below replacement level this year?
  10. Well, I'd be stunned if Lewis is really the pick and if he is, they better have something good at 35 planned. I don't want us to save money at 1 just to sign a bunch of 3rd or 4th round types after round 10.
  11. Didn't McKay's velocity drop coincide with him trying a new pitch? I thought he pitched pretty well down the stretch for Louisville regardless of his velocity and his secondary pitches are supposed to be pretty solid. A lefty can get away with slightly less mph than a righty.
  12. How many college guys in the top 15 or so picks didn't have big fastballs?
  13. That the Scouts like Lewis isn't surprising. He's the kind of guy Twins have targeted for decades - high upside tools to spare HS prospect. He'd be a normal years Twins pick easy. I'm more curious on why the analytics guys like McKay - I would imagine they like him as a pitcher (as reported).
  14. mlbpipeline and minorleague ball both have McKay above Wright. BA and fangraphs have Wright above McKay. So McKay isn't a horrible choice. He's either the best or second best college arm. Or the Twins might love his bat after they look at it in person.
  15. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/235886620/mock-draft-for-first-round-of-2017-mlb-draft/ Both Callis and Mayo have the Twins taking McKay with Lewis in consideration only if he's really cheap. 1. Twins Mayo: Brendan McKay, LHP/1B, Louisville - The Twins are still looking at multiple candidates, with Vanderbilt's Kyle Wright, and high schoolers Hunter Greene, Royce Lewis and MacKenzie Gore still being kicked around. But McKay looks like the odds-on favorite right now, and they would draft him as a pitcher. Callis: Brendan McKay, 1B/LHP, Louisville - Minnesota prefers McKay as a potential No. 2 starter but likely will give him the chance to both hit and pitch at the start of his career. California high school shortstop/outfielder Lewis appears to be Plan B, but only if he would cost significantly less than McKay, which won't happen.
  16. If the Twins take Lewis, then they have to have something planned at 35/37. Do we know who represents Lewis? I don't think it was Boras.
