    So, in 2017 the FO tried to move Dozier, overplayed their hand, planted obvious rumors in the media to try and drive up his trade value, failed and then in July they traded away talent on a team that made the playoffs. The best return was (checks notes) Zack Littel. In 2018, they made a good trade (Odorizzi) and it looks like the Yankees might have fleeced them in the Jake Cave trade (Gil is #4 prospect in Yankees org). They also traded away a draft pick and $ to the Padres to get out of paying Phil Hughes. They made several deadline deals that are too early to judge fairly but the Pressly trade looks bad while Dozier/Escobar look ok. Maybe the FO just isn't good at trading? Maybe ownership is pushing back more on payroll than we know?

    Hudson seemed like a doable piece for the Twins. Wish we had gotten him.

    I think they might make a Zack Duke trade in reverse but nothing that moves the needle. This deadline is another good reminder that the players are winning despite ownership, not because of ownership. Over the last 25+ years, we've seen our FO's forced to keep payroll low. That's why we hired these two guys.

    Reyes looks like a nice young OF with big power and really bad defense. He's a better fit in the AL. Logan Allen will probably go back to AAA but he's a back end top 100 type with high floor but lower ceiling. Nice get for Cleveland

    Spectrum just sent me a letter saying my rate is changing and they'll charge me a lot more. I'm still one of the few that have cable b/c we don't have great options in rural MN but now I'm starting to look around more.

    Reading a few threads out there, I think a closer comp for the Twins might have been a healthy Stephen Gonsalvez and maybe Balazovic before he started breaking out.

    The Mets trade makes no sense. Stroman is the type of player you add to a team trying to win now. Mets are crapp and unlikely to contend next year but now are out a few prospects that (in theory) could help with the rebuild they need to undertake. If, instead, they are deciding to go all in, they can't trade Thor.

    In fairness, we have seen the current FO in a playoff situation and they decided to be sellers. Not sure you can be more conservative than that. Let's see how this plays out before we give them credit for things they haven't done.

    I suspect that he earned his promotion. He's been better in July and has probably figured out some of the mechanics that were affecting him earlier in the season. The team might want to see how he does against AA pitchers and/or getting out of the pitching friendly FSL.

    It's not a bad trade but it doesn't really move the needle either. But Romo is a solid bullpen option that we should have confidence in. That's not nothing.

The five year old, Rehim, who is saving her little sister, died when she fell and hit her head. The 7 month old is still alive although Syria sucks so who knows.

    True, but after what we saw with Kuechel this year, I would think Gibson would take the QO. (Unless the rules have changed).

    I think Yankee fans don't have the history of cheapness and failure to spend that Twins fans do

    If the Twins keep Perez and Cruz on their options, payroll would already be nearly 100m. The team would need two SP, another catcher, and a MI option and probably a few relief arms. I suspect the MI would be in-house (Arraez) and maybe they bring Castro back on a similar deal (8m). That would put payroll around 105m-ish. I think QO is over 17m. I don't think they'd offer that to either Odorizzi or Gibson b/c that would put payroll pretty close to its limits while still needing room for more arms.

    I think Lewis is the better prospect. I think Kiriloff is the safer prospect. I honestly don't care which of them is traded, I see pros and cons for each.

    Twins have an amazing core of position players - Cron, Arreaz/Schoop*, Polanco, Sano, Rosario, Buxton, Kepler and Garver should be our starting lineup for most of this year and next and I think Cruz will be at DH next year, too. None of that offensive core should be traded until the Twins have someone that can replace them up and ready, not just hoping. I suspect we'll trade Rosario when Kiriloff is ready but he's not ready. *Schoop won't be back next year. We have some strong trade pieces in the minors, that's what we should be using. Even guys like Gordon and Duran - not on top 100 lists - have solid value in a trade now.
