    Has anyone watched Stewart pitch in an actual game? Does he get hitters into strike out counts and then have them just roll over on his sinker? Does he get swing and misses earlier in the count?

    Anyone holding pharmaceuticals? I put 5500 into my IRA but not sure what I'm going to do with it, mostly wait and see now but I don't have much in health care/pharma so starting to look around a bit in that area.

    The 25 man roster will change and we'll get Park or Vargas up here to eventually take some at bats away from Mauer but I'm not sure this is something to worry about in April. Mauer isn't what he was but he still gets on base and he has hit lefties before. And if he has Buxton in front of him (hopefully on first base) maybe a few of those ground outs to the second baseman sneak through.

    I didn't want to sign a guy like Sipp on a 3/18m deal (he sucked last year, by the way). Stop gaps are fine for a bullpen. I don't think you want to spend a lot on relief arms when they are so risky.

    I don't have an answer to this. I thought we'd see a back end of the bullpen of Burdi, Perkins, Jepsen, May Chargois and Meyer by last August. (I knew all wouldn't make it but I figured some would). I was really excited about that. Clearly that didn't happen. But that's why I didn't want us to sign a Tony Sipp type. I still don't. And I agree that Chargois should have been on the opening day roster. I hope he forces their hand. But I'm not going to overly worry about the stop gaps while waiting for those younger arms to get here.

    Mike, I think you're arguments lose a little bit of their merit when you're complaining about back up catchers and clearly stop gap bullpen arms. Sure, Giminez isn't much. Would we rather have Garver sitting on the bench or playing in AAA? The Twins have some very exciting and young bullpen arms not yet on the 40 man roster (Jay, Burdi) and a few that are (Chargois). None are ready April 1st. The Twins are starting 6 former top 100 prospects that are 27 and younger in their lineup on opening day. Yes, the new FO didn't bring those guys in but they didn't block them either. That should be exciting. They changed the rotation more than it looks like at first blush. They removed 73 starts from last years starters and added a rookie to the rotation to go with 4 vets under team control. I don't think the complaints about 'being older' are valid. It's a young team so adding a stop gap vet isn't a big deal.

    For some reason, I think Rosario is either going to be amazing or horrible. No in between this year. I'm hoping for a huge .300+ avg with pop great defense and solid baserunning but he could also do .260/.290/.450. I just think it'll be one of the two. So let's hope for something like .303/.333/.470

    I think it was the shoulder injury at the end of the 2013 season. His mechanics were never the same. Big pitchers have lots of moving parts so you muck up one and it all just falls apart. That's not to say it couldn't be both. The way I see it, since 2012, the Twins have only had about 6 pitchers with the stuff to be legit #1/2 type pitchers - Meyer, Stewart, Jay and maybe Berrios, Thorpe and Romero. Jay and Meyer are pen arms now. Stewart's mechanics are inconsistent. Berrios dominated the minors and Romero and Thorpe are bouncing back from injuries.

    Let's keep in mind that this is NOT the same starting staff as last year. They've removed 73 starts from last years' group. I'm not sure how this group will do but it's not the same starters.

    People wanted Santiago cut all offseason because May was a better option. He's gone. So we can get rid of people (and I think Santana is a pretty good place to start) but I think fans tend to forget about how important depth is - esp starting pitching depth. And this place blew up when the Twins did make some moves - like removing Park from the 40 man or letting Jake Reed get taken in the rule v or the all-time Joe Benson thread.

    Sure, I think Chargois and Berrios have much better upside than others. Murphy? He's looked pretty bad for over a year now. A plus defender as a back-up makes more sense until Garver is ready. But Berrios isn't ready today. I would have put Chargois on the ML roster but I also didn't see him in ST. His numbers are pretty bad so maybe there is something to work on. But the reality is that the team is pretty young - especially the hitters - and they just need reps. Pitching side is worse off. I agree that many of these guys are stopgaps until Chargois, Burdi Duffey, Jay etc establish themselves in the pen. I hope that starts to happen this year since I fully thought it would happen last year. But the rotation is what it is. Behind those five we have Berrios (who didn't pitch much), Duffey/Haley (both in the pen) and some AAA vets. Could be a lot of 8-6 ball games this year.

    It's pretty clear they are trying to keep some players and they have a 25 man and 40 man roster crunch. Yes, we could just cut guys but that also kills our depth. We need Hector Santiago, for example, because pitchers (May) get hurt. (See what I did there?) Park isn't a sure thing but putting him back on the 40 man roster means cutting someone and giving him a spot that we aren't sure he can hold down. And it blocks Vargas if Vargas is the hot player in AAA instead.

    Well, as inexperienced as Falvey is, Lavine was a legitimately good hire for GM. Give him time. He can eventually construct a pretty good roster.

    Gardy was a hell of a lot better manager than Molly. And Molly is a close friend to the owner, so that's the reason he's still around. As for this FO seeming a lot like the old FO, well, two things: 1) It's still very early and 2) There really might not be a huge difference between "old school" and new school and $$$$ might still be very important to creating a baseball team.

    I'm not sure it's fair to say they got older. They have a roookie in the rotation and a rule v in the pen. And obviously they have a ton of young guys in the starting lineup. Most of the complaining is that 30 year old Park is in AAA and 26 year old Santana is in the majors. I don't think they have the 25 best players on the roster right now but it's not age that's the problem.

    Honestly, the one real problem (in my view) is Danny Santana. He got the most AB in ST and was awful. Pretty clearly a Molitor mandated move. I'd have removed him from the 40 man roster. But keeping Park in AAA for a month isn't horrible. He was hot last year in ST, too. Let's see how he is doing a month from now. And it also lets Grossman play more. If Grossman can be an on-base machine, we're ok. If he's not, they'll release him in a month. Nothing wrong with finding out what he can do. Duffey in the pen might be the best place for him although I'd probably have let him try starting in AAA one more year first. Haley needs to be kept. Mejia is a good addition. I hope the FO has a short hook for Hughes.

    I said before ST that he'd be an all-star this year. Wish his ST had been better but I'll stick with it. Something close to .265/.350/.520 with ok defense. Top 10 in homers, close to what Seth's prediction is.

    Well, we'll see. I do think that if he's running out a 5.00 ERA after ten starts (at the most), we'd see him moved/cut for Mejia. But I don't think we'd see another 20 starts like that like we had with Nolasco last year.

    Sure but he's right that the positive regression of guys like Gibson and Santiago should outweigh the negative regression Santana will have. Nolasco, Meyer, Dean, Milone and Albers combined for 45 starts last year. Duffey had another 26. That's a lot of new starts to be made by new pitchers this year.

    We don't have anyone - today - that has #1/2 potential but that's somewhat rare. Berrios was our last guy with that kind of ceiling and a lot of people had him pegged as more a #3 type. But Gonsalves, Romero, Stewart and Jay were all on somebody's top 100 list just this offseason. And even with Jay moving to the pen, they still have some upside there (plus Thorpe and some pretty young arms in the low minors that are too far away today). I'm bummed that Jay is being moved but at the same time I think the angst is a bit overblown. We know that not every draft pick will reach it's ceiling although we don't know which ones won't.

    Yeah, that's one worry I had. I wonder if it's just the player and his agent pushing something that gets him to the majors faster or if the FO really thinks the payoff for him being a reliever over the risk of trying to make him a starter is worth it.
