  1. Not sure he's ranked that low. He's in the 55 FV group. He has one plus pitch right now and if he can make the breaking ball plus, he'll go up.
  2. I honestly think Zimmer, Spielman and Cousins deserve one last year. I'm sure the Vikings won't be favorites to win the Central or get a first round bye but they most definitely could. If Theilan wasn't hurt for half the season, I'm not sure we lose to KC and Seattle. And we most certainly should have won on the road in GB. Now all teams deal with injuries so it's not a completely fair complaint but ... And talent wise, we could see Hunter take a step forward still and I'm confounded on how the team is mis-using Barr. But they still have enough talent in their prime years to make one last go around Cousins. I'm not sure I'd bet on them but right now, other than SF, I'm not sure I think the Vikings are really much worse than any other NFC team.
  3. I think the thinking on Graterol is that they are more certain he's a reliever, which isn't as valuable.
  4. So five in their top 100 and six in BA? Solid. I don't think we have the same high ceilings we saw five years ago or so. Seems like our system is full of potential regular players but lacks the true high upside future all stars. But that also means we have some significant trade depth, if we went that route.
  5. Agreed. And they are still impacting us. Half of the Twins current top 100 prospects, per BA, came from the previous regimes as well.
  6. I don't know how the players broke down v. lefty and righties but I suspect the lineup will be similar to last year. I think Arreaz will start low in the lineup to prove that last year wasn't a fluke but then get moved up. Same with Buxton. That would likely let Kepler move to the middle of the order to break up our righties. But right now, I'm not sure we need to worry that much about breaking them up. All three are excellent hitters who can take a walk. Kepler Polanco Cruz Donaldson Sano Rosario Garver Arreaz Buxton I also think it's possible Polanco is more likely the hitter we saw from July onward (.267/.332/.446) and could be pushed to the bottom third of the order. But this is still a really strong lineup. It could easily hit 300 home runs.
  7. The NL game is simply inferior and the lack of a DH is a big reason. The idea that strategy is somehow involved is vastly overstated. https://hatedyankees.wordpress.com/2010/08/01/debunking-the-myth-of-strategy-in-the-national-league/
  8. My guess is that the electronic device thing didn't happen but if they want to strip these guys of more draft picks, I'd be happy with that.
  9. I forgot that we'd lose a draft pick to get Donaldson. Obviously, that's ok but still a bummer. Maybe they can trade for one?
  10. We might add a few vets on non-guaranteed contracts but the roster is pretty much set at this point. It's a good roster. Pitching could be better and we're a little light on depth but overall, this roster should win the AL Central again and have a puncher's chance against anyone (except the Yankees). Right now, the Twins shouldn't do anything. Ideally, they'll have some trade chips if needed at the deadline but for now, they should see what this lineup can do. I don't think we'll break the HR record again but we should lead the league in HRs as a team. A healthy Sano might lead the league in HRs this year. That would be awesome.
  11. I'd rather have a starter but the Twins might not agree.
  12. Sigh, still no Alice in Chains https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/15/entertainment/rock-hall-fame-2020-inductees/index.html
  13. Well, I was very negative on the FO early but this really changes things. They've made some solid signings and this one is a big time get. Very impressed. Great work to the FO.
  14. I'm really surprised the FO got this done. I thought it was an impossibility. Great on them for getting the best position player left on the market and an obvious impact for this team as constructed.
  15. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28477741/why-anger-boiling-scenes-houston-astros-sign-stealing-punishments Good article on the ban on why Crane got off cheap.
  16. OK, not to veer off course but TK threw out a syringe that a ballboy found in the visitor's locker room after Seattle had left. Maybe that's your point but it seems like you were suggesting that TK was covering up behavior of his team.
  17. Top 10 finish. Ahead of Wisconsin and Iowa. :-)
  18. I like this punishment. It's harsh but maybe not harsh enough, which is good. The GM and the manager know that their careers and future earnings have been significantly impacted. The commissioner of baseball went out of his way to make sure the report suggested that their WS win was tarnished. That's remarkable. And the financial penalties to the owner isn't a joke. Lastly, the loss of draft picks hurts the Astros future fairly significantly. If another team is dumb enough to do this in the future ...
  19. I don't think we'll be the Lions and a few years ago everyone wanted Nagy. Coaches with .600 winning percentages don't fall out of trees. This is a veteran team that needs to retool and take another shot before it's core gets too old. I don't think it makes sense to fire Zimmer. He's a good coach, esp on defense. As I said, the biggest problem is easily the offensive line. I don't really blame him for that. I do wish the offense was more aggressive but, at the same time, we were still 8th in scoring (and 5th in defensive scoring). To me it feels like this is a team that needs some tweaks, not a team that should be blown up.
  20. I dunno. I think they could, sure. Did you think Mike Vrabel and Tannehill would get to the AFC championship game? Did you think Mike Nagy was the next great coach? I sure never thought Doug Pederson or Gary Kubiak would be super bowl winning coaches. Weird stuff happens all the time. The Vikings aren't going to be the favorites next year but they have some talent. I disagree with some of the pessimism here. I think most of our problems are talent level, particularly the offensive line, not coaching. But there could be ways those are connected. But at the end of the day, Cousins, Zimmer and Speilman are going to be connected. They know that. I'd be very surprised if they didn't make some big changes to win it all next year. We'll see.
  21. I think Kubiak will be the OC/assistant HC next year. I'm not sure that's an upgrade or not. I'm also not sure how much of the blame goes to the scheme/coaching and how much to the O-line. The first loss to both the Packer and Bears and the playoff loss to San Francisco were, IMHO, due to our o-line being exposed and destroyed by a better defensive front. While maybe some better play calling and scheming fixes that a bit, there's only so much you can do if you can't run and you don't give your QB time to pass. I'm also not sure if the Vikings zone-blocking scheme is helpful or not or if it fits with our personnel. But the line should be the top priority. Just not sure how to fix it. As for Zimmer, I'm not as hard on him as others. He's certainly better than Childress, Tice and Frasier. He's a good defensive coach but he really needs to be less conservative. I'm not sure he can change at this point. But he has a nearly .600 winning percent and only one losing season in six years. They aren't going to fire him.
  22. I figure the assistant coaches are smart enough and Speilman knows the chair is getting hot that they should be able to open up the offense a bit. But, even with all our faults, we were 8th in scoring this year. There's a lot of room for improvement but they have a few tools on the offensive side of the ball. The play calling wasn't always good - as you note - but they have good enough skill players. They need a coach who can use them correctly. And they need to fix that line.
  23. They'll give Zimmer and Cousins one more year together. I think they are pretty crunched by the salary cap so they'll probably lose Rhodes and Waynes and Alexander from the secondary. And the defense is getting older. I think they need to 1) address the OL 2) Probably need to make the DL better - they were run over pretty good today 3) fix secondary They also need to re-scheme the defense a bit to use Barr better.
  24. Gads, not only do we have to lose, I have to listen to Collinsworth. The difference in the o-lines is huge. Not sure there's much we can do now.
  25. Well, I predicted the win last week so I'll keep predicting wins. I think Cook needs a huge day (you can pay me money for my deep observations) but Zimmer can mess with their QB.
