Just watched the replay. The targeting thing is the stupidest rule in a long time. Let the QB run until he decides to slide at the last instant, then expect defenders to be able to mind read and pull off before he goes into his slide. I'd be teaching my QBs to fake the slide and get an extra 20 free yards in important situations.
"If you really want it to be prime rib… use prime numbers like 13 or 17. I thought this was a brilliant idea but it would render it impossible to cut into bite size pieces… now being indivisible and everything." This stops being a problem if you just skip the silverware and treat the slab of prime rib like the finger food the Good Lord intended it to be.
That's still no excuse. If you dive in that situation and miss by a couple inches, I get that. Kepler missed by a yard. He was nowhere near catching that. In that situation, you HAVE to pull up, and keep the go ahead run at first.
Poor Alex Wimmers. Makes his major league debut and not even folks diehard enough to be in a game thread at this point in THIS game in THIS season notice. His MOM prolly tuned out 4 innings ago.
