    That story was reported by Jeff Passan, not "the aggregator not to be quoted." MLBTradeRumors simply published Passan's report...and attributed the report to Passan. In fairness to actual persons who do actual reporting, we should all try to do the same.

    I guess the only conclusion I can draw is that they have been unable to recruit a better QB. If MN and NE swap QBs, MN wins that game.

    Or platooned with Murphy. This is one of the things we were hoping for from new management, right? Finding creative ways to get more production? You're going to carry two catchers anyway. Catcher is an obvious place to look for a platoon situation that ups production without costing as much as one player who can do it all. Neither C would get all their ABs against opposite hand pitching, but it's relatively simple to give them that advantage in the bulk of their PAs.

    JHC the Gophers make it hard to watch, don't they? If it's not Leidner, it's the stupidest coaching decisions ever.

    Having the DH as a rotating position is one way to go. Not necessarily the way to go. Plenty of teams have done just fine with a full time DH. Plenty have done just fine without one. I think the DH was established because in general, pitchers can't hit. It was a way to inject offense into the game (and it's inarguable that it has...the AL has averaged more runs per game than the NL in the DH era) under the theory it would attract more fans. Extending careers was a byproduct of the DH, not the reason for it.

    I agree they've both been good players in the past. But there are only 40 spots on the roster and 25 spots on the big league team. Those spots should go to players management thinks have the best chance to add wins in the future, not the players owed money. Maybe those are the same guys. But maybe not. "We already owe them the money" IS the risk. I think it's been too much of a factor in the past.

    I don't think either are "owed" a spot. They are owed money. Those are not the same things. One thing I hope for from new leadership is greater recognition of that reality.

    Athletes in general have gotten gradually bigger and marginally faster since the 70s. That much is true. But Sano is not "more athletic" than Dave Winfield. Winfield led the Big Ten in rebounding one year. He was a fantastic college pitcher in addition to outfielder. He was drafted by TWO different professional basketball leagues, an NFL team, and of course the Padres in MLB. And for what it's worth, Flip Saunders was VERY athletic. He was a starting Big Ten point guard, ferpetesakes. There were athletes in the 70's, too. Good ones. As they say..you could look it up.

    When he doesn't hit, no amount of corner D makes him a good player. Huh. So what you're saying is...hitting is what matters for a corner outfielder. Where have I heard that before?

    If merely removing power from Heyward takes hiim from "elite" to "bench," maybe he wasn't truly "elite" to begin with. Cameron has an odd way of admitting he was wrong.

    When ownership consistently spends what they could be spending, I'll accept payroll as a limitation. Until then, it's an excuse. A lame, tired, unsupported excuse.

    One thing I agree on...Dozier cannot play anywhere on the left side. He does not have the arm. That was a primary reason they moved him off SS in the first place, and his arm has gotten worse.

    I'd actually prefer they find a couple one or two year FAs that the new regime think can be bargains. Those bargains either help return the team to contention or are trade chips in July. There isn't much worth longer deals available this winter, but that doesn't mean sit out free agency. It should be one avenue continually used to improve your tem, no matter how bad, or good, it is.

    I see what you're endorsing as "just stay with the bad we know." I don't endorse that. For one thing, it literally can't be made worse. What's worse than worst in MLB?

    "Let some growth happen in 2017 and perhaps 2018. Then see (where) you need to add pieces." My problems with this: 1. I've been hearing this exact same thing for at least three years now. It's time to win. This organization can't afford any more losing, they're already close to an afterthought in the TC market. 2. Neither you or I can predict with much certainty what will happen next week in baseball. Let alone 2019. Waiting around until the magical perfect time to occur is folly. 3. Even if you could predict what the Twins will look like in 2919, you can't predict the needed magic pieces will be available. 4. If, indeed, the current crop of players simply needs more time, nothing will have been lost by adding better surrounding players now. Nothing prevents the Twins from trying now, AND adding players in 2019. "Play the kids" is one of those things that has the smell of truth on the surface, but lacks any actual merit on closer examination. Play kids that can help you win, and find replacements for those that are just kids.

    Your examples, Blyleven and Morris, were both acquired prior to "having a competitive team." Morris was signed to a team that finished in last place. You can't wait until you have a competitive team to "fill the holes" you need to fill to become a competitive team. Acquire the players needed to compete. That's how you become competitive. Hopefully, there are just about enough position players in place to get there, so fix the pitching. Now. If you are saying the Twins don't currently have the position players to compete, you are in effect saying Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, et al are busts.
