  1. Clearly Molitor's job is maximizing production of his "division." (he is more akin to a divisional VP than a retail store manager like at your local DQ.) Part of that job description would be doing everything he can to ensure he has the right skills in his workforce, and part of that would be letting his boss know where he has, and likely will have, deficiencies. I would think he could/should have had a conversation something like: "Hey Ter...is there some reason Polanco isn't playing any short in Rochester? If Nuney is hurt or traded we're going to need him there, and looking at next year..."
  2. Agree with much of this, but I think we need to put things in some perspective. Getting 2-3 years of a utility infielder, even from a 32nd round pick,is not a huge success. Its a success for that guy, but not the organization. A utility infielder does little to add wins to an organization, and what little value they have isn't hard or expensive to find. You need your minor leagues to produce good, above average everyday players, and the occasional star or three. This isn't about just getting players to the big leagues. Every team does that. Getting players who can win pennants is the goal.
  3. I don't think all of them are dead yet.
  4. Good stuff. My question: what is your biggest challenge today? What can the community do to help meet that challenge? That's two questions. Sorry. I love this place. I'd like to see it thrive and grow.
  5. No, I understand that. I'm suggesting you should look up the data.
  6. I'm reluctant to speak for Hosken, but I took his post to mean, if you are going to cite something (like RF) as the best evaluation tool to use, it would help if you would provide the data. "I prefer RF, here's why, and here's Adrianza's minor league RFs." You might then go on to compare that to some relevant examples, to put the data in context. In other words...I don't think it's on us to "look it up."
  7. I would argue there's room for a 3 person 1B/DH combo, as long as the team can get the platoon advantage almost all the time. For that to work, at least one (Vargas) has to be a switch hitter.
  8. Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl...
  9. I don't disagree. I'd rather they found a better option. But in the context of this thread, and what they DO have, if they're truly trying to improve the D, i think the way to do that is start Adrianza.
  10. He has to stay healthy, like every player, but I don't believe in "injury prone." Some players have chronic problems (Thome's back), but outside that, it's random chance. And he's at the point where he should be in CF almost no matter what he hits. It's time to find out one way or the other. He represents a good part of the future, if he can't hit, at least they'll be pretty sure of it.
  11. Since I expect 155 games in CF from Buxton (given health), I'm not concerned with CF defense.
  12. If they truly are committed to improving the defense, they start Adrianza at SS, with Polanco moving to utility infielder. Santana is gone, possibly Escobar as well. If not, I guess Adrianza could replace Santana/Escobar, but then they're not really committed to improving the defense.
  13. Dozier doesn't have enough arm to play on the left side of the infield.
  14. There are 3 (2 if they carry 13 pitchers) bench spots not counting catcher. You're going to dedicate 2 of those spots to late inning defensive replacements? Including OF? That doesn't make sense to me.
  15. Is it "EYE-ray?" My Spanglish is even worse than my English.
  16. The Twins "should have no trouble scoring runs?" I hope you're right, but that seems pretty optimistic. As for Grossman, I'm going to have to see it again to believe last year wasn't a mirage.
  17. I'm not at all sure "final" is correct. Opportunity for lawsuits, IMO. The more I look into this, the more I believe the University process needs overhaul, from athlete oversight, to the EEOE office, to disciplinary SOPs. Nobody looks good, including the female, who changed her story yet again. She now admits she wasn't intoxicated.
  18. I'm approaching 40. In dog years.
