  1. It's my stupid opinion that players concentrate on bulking up rather than conditioning (i.e. core strength, flexibility, etc.) because the home run is viewed as the nirvana of baseball.
  2. I've read all the responses to the OP. There are many "opinions" being offered up as facts. Saying things like "The Twins were wrong to..." or "The Twins could have signed..." are not facts. Doing nothing (or selling or buying for that matter) isn't wrong if you don't know the circumstances behind the decision. It's possible the Twins were attempting to do all the moves mentioned above (obviously not at the same time) but the trading partners didn't make any offers worth the move. And, I know Pham was traded for an A-level prospect but maybe the Mets didn't give the Twins a chance to increase their offer. We don't know. There are a lot of assumptions made in the comments above that have no concrete evidence to support them. The only fact I know is that I had an opinion about what I would have liked the Twins to do but it didn't happen. Was the Twins' decision right or wrong? We'll never know without all the details of what went on leading up to the deadline. And that ain't going to happen!
  3. I can't imagine that Correa's "bad" ankle is causing his poor performance in the batter's box. If his ankle was bothering him, there's no possible way he could play shortstop the way he does.
  4. No one has mentioned the promotion of Kiersey Jr. and Severino to the Saints. Congrats to them also.
  5. I looked up all the #31 to #39 (the most likely spot for a comp pick for Gray to be) draft picks from 2010 to 2020. That's 99 selections over 11 years. About 15% of these guys made any impact in the major leagues. Personally, I don't like those odds. I would much rather take a chance on a known player (AAA and ready to move up or a young, controllable ML player) than roll the dice at 8.5 to 1 odds.
  6. Another article that suggests who the Twins should acquire with no mention of the asset cost of these trades. As has been stated in numerous articles, all the other central division teams are sellers which essentially concedes the division crown to the Twins. This means to me they should trade Gray to a contender for a right-handed outfielder, trade Maeda to a contender for a relief pitcher, and trade Polanco or Kepler to a contender for another relief pitcher. It's a seller's market. The players coming to the Twins must be AAA level or controllable young major league players. The Twins only need three starters for the playoffs (Lopez, Ryan, and Ober). For offense, the Twins really need Buxton and Correa to step up. They may break the 0-18 streak and maybe even win a series, but they probably won't get any further. Think long term, not short term.
  7. St. Louis is a seller so why would they want anyone on an expiring contract?
  8. I looked back at all the MLB draft picks between 31 and 39 (the most likely spot for a compensation pick) for the years 2010-2020. That provided 99 picks over 11 years. Only roughly 15% had any impact in the major leagues. I would much rather trade Gray for a AAA, controllable player than roll the dice on a draft pick with only 1 to 8.5 odds of making the major leagues. The chances of success are much higher.
  9. Remember the Brittany Spears song "Oops I Did It Again"? That should be the theme song for the Twins. A winning streak followed by a losing streak. Look like a playoff team for a short time and then play like the '62 Mets. I hope they don't blow up the already depleted farm system (remember 2022?) just for the chance to break a losing streak. Think long term and sell anyone not in the 2024 plans (if anyone wants them!).
  10. The article says Raya and Headrick. Because the Twins farm system is so deplete of top-level starting pitchers, I would hope an extension for Hadar is part of the trade conversation.
  11. The back of my mind is screaming "an asset to fix something.". No reason for this idea but I think he would be a perfect extra player that completes a trade for something good.
  12. Witt, Jr. should be suspended for the rest of the season. He cheated. He did not lean back, shut his eyes, swing from his heals, and strike out. The Twins always follow this unwritten rule. They had double-digit strikeouts for the billionth time this season.
  13. Disagree 100%. His first injury was caused by a Texan trying to walk on ice. The second was twisting his knee when jumping for a ball. I tore my miniscus walking! I was 73 at the time and I'm due for a knee replacement in December. Am I "injury prone"? I doubt it. I played goalie up until I tore the miniscus and never hurt my knee before. Put him in center field.
  14. You will never learn to hit major league pitchers if you don't face major league pitchers.
  15. Wait a minute. TD commenters don't want reality because it screws up their ranting about the front office.
  16. Absolutely!!! He would be an upgrade to either Gallo or Kepler, and maybe to Larnach. Or good trade bait.
  17. If, as you say, Lane Thomas is worth a haul by himself, this group won't be enough. Are you willing to add Lee and Lewis? I'm not.
  18. Step up and tell us who you are willing to trade for two high end relievers and Lane Thomas.
  19. Two points. 1. The Twins haven't had "of" and on all year. Players A, B, and C have missed significant time. Therefore, it's like getting a new player. 2. If you want to add better talent, then which prospects are you willing to lose and does anyone else want them?
  20. Mortgage the future in hopes of winning one playoff game? Ridiculous. And I totally agree wity LukeDuke1980. There are tons of suggestions about who to acquire, but very little discussion of what it would cost to get them. The Twins' farm is pretty sparse after last year's debacle and no one wants to trade for Gallo, Garlick, Kepler, etc.
  21. The thing that bothers me is that the Twins openly announce players' weaknesses but never give them a chance to get better. For example, Larnach and Wallner can't hit MLB pitching. So let's keep them in the minors so they will never learn how. Or, Kirilloff can't hit left handers so let's pinch hit for him whenever he has to face one. And this happens while they have a permanent DH who is hitting below .200. Give these guys extended opportunities to develop.
  22. It was just a day or two ago people were proclaiming that Buxton had broken out of his slump.
  23. Buxton goes 0-30, has a game with two hits, and "Buxton is heating up" comments start popping up. Then he goes on another hitless streak and it's rinse, wash, repeat. If Buck goes 8-10 games getting a hit or two in each, then I would call it heating up.
