It doesn't make any difference if he is traded or "steps up", he will still make league minimum.

A question about position #23. Wouldn't Wallner>>>Gonzales/Rosario make league minimum instead of the $2.2M you have?

Twins currently have 7th worst record in the race for the lottery. good news is that two of the teams ahead of them are not eligible for the 2026 draft. Standings are through yesterday. P Team W L PCT Eligible 1 Colorado Rockies 37 90 0.291 N0 2 Chicago White Sox 45 82 0.354 3 Washington Nationals 51 75 0.405 N0 4 Pittsburgh Pirates 54 74 0.422 5 Whatever Athletics 58 70 0.453 6 Atlanta Braves 58 69 0.457 7 Minnesota Twins 58 68 0.460 8 Baltimore Orioles 59 67 0.468 9 Miami Marlins 60 67 0.472 10 Los Angeles Angels 60 67 0.472 11 Tampa Bay Rays 61 65 0.484 12 San Francisco Giants 61 65 0.484 13 Arizona Diamondbacks 62 66 0.484 14 Texas Rangers 62 65 0.488 15 St. Louis Cardinals 63 65 0.492

I concur. My problem with BTV (especially at the trade deadline) is that it was no way in include how badly someone wants a particular player. In your desire for a bat (everyone's desire I think) you appear to be willing to outbid other teams. That seems to throw BTV out the window (which is what I would do).

Didn't look at BTV. I doubt any front office does either. But that's beside the point. You said "whatever it takes". So I must assume you would be happy with this trade. If not, please write what you actually mean.

"Whatever it takes." Wow. How about Jenkins, Keaschall, Gonzales and Dasan Hill?

Manager, 3rd base coach, hitting coach. But that has nothing to do with my comment. If it's so damn easy to find a first baseman, why haven't they done it?

In my mind, the decision between a complete teardown and a reinvestment in the current team can be found in the new ownership agreement. If the minority investors (unknown as of now) have bought in (similar to George Bush with the Rangers) just so they can boast at the Country Club about being owners of a major league team, then a complete teardown is probably the path to follow. But, if the agreement has some sort of wording that allows the minority investors a strong voice in how the Twins move forward, then a reinvestment might be the way to go. BUT, there is a caveat to this also. The minority investors must have a "win the world series" (not "win the Central Division") mindset. I'm a little worried that the minority investors might be Pohlad clones and will continue the "profit is #1" view of MLB ownership. So until the new investors and the terms of the agreement are known, I'm not going to worry about what happens next.

If a competent first baseman is so easy to find, why did the Twins sign Ty France this past off-season and now have Clemens and Julien alternating there?

And five might get paid as much as a #3 starter. The few names you dropped are more comparable to the $35M to $40M a year pitchers. Or put another way - playing at half salary.

In my non-humble 😉 opinion, until high-profile relievers start getting paid like a starter, it will be difficult to convince people to change. Look at someone like Morris. He's looking down the road at a possible salary of $10M-$12M a year in a couple years if he remains a starter. Or he could switch to relief and look forward to $5M-$6M a year. Hard for them to look look forward to playing for half the salary when your value to the team hasn't significantly changed.

Everyone seems so worried about Culpepper and Houston as hitters that they seem to forget that shortstop is primarily a defensive position. Guys like Mark Belanger played for a decade in Baltimore and had a career batting average of .228. But he was also a gold glove winner several times and helped the Orioles win a lot of games. He and Brooks Robinson on the left side of the infield was a thing of beauty.
