  1. Baltimore has a beautiful ballpark with a nice Hilton Inner Harbor hotel directly across the street which looks down onto the baseball field. Inner Harbor Marriott is a block or 2 from the ballpark and a cheaper hotel. The food at Baltimore ballpark is amazing. Boog Powell's has ribs and BBQ. Bambino's Ribs was no longer there the last time I went, but those ribs were delicious. The smoke and the smell from the cooking ribs and BBQ blows onto the field and makes my mouth water. There is a large walkway between the large brick warehouse and the ball field. Look out for fly balls during batting practice. Crab cakes are incredibly good at O'Brycki's Restaurant, which opened in 1944. You will have to drive or take a cab or Uber to Little Italy for this Baltimore landmark. While in Atlanta, you must get a hot dog or two at The Varsity Drive In in Atlanta, which opened in 1928. It is still owned by the Gordon family. It is the world's largest Drive In. The dogs are delicious. It is near Georgia Tech University in downtown and worth the drive, but do not go during lunch hour. Have fun. I'm looking forward to enjoying your road trip vicariously through your articles on TD.
  2. This is the best plan I have read about for Buck. It seems to be the most reasonable.
  3. Outstanding article Alex. I always listen when someone who has actually played on a relatively high level writes or speaks. It gives credibility to the author. For example, when I was playing baseball in high school, I set records for the most home runs at my school. But then, I was the pitcher and it was a school record for home runs allowed...the amazing part of this record is that I rarely could pitch the ball over the plate. The batters were salivating to get to swing at my pitches before my coach could take me out of the game.
  4. Sorry but I must disagree. They just traded for Michael A, Taylor.
  5. I really like this trade. Michael Taylor and Byron Buxton are so fast, the Twins can just use these two players in the OF and use the third OF position for a lefty reliever, who can mow down lefthanded batters and the starting pitcher can remain in the game in the OF, with the lefty reliever remaining in the game somewhere in the OF when right handed batters are at bat. Alternate the pitchers. How's this for thinking outside the box?
  6. I wonder if tweaking/changing a pitcher's habitual violent pitching motion, could add to the pitcher's injury risk? Do the muscles and ligaments grow accustomed (get built up) to being used in violent ways using one certain motion or several certain motions and specific ways? And do minor changes in this violent set of variable motions, sometimes result in injuries to these ligaments and muscles?
  7. Best wishes to Aaron. Sounds like he is being very mature and reasonable about his career choice.
  8. I must respectfully disagree that Sano has always been able to "command the strike zone". To me it appeared that the strike zone commanded Sano.
  9. I hope he is another Sonny Gray. I'd be happy with that.
  10. I will really miss Arraez. I stopped doing everything else and concentrated on the game when he came to bat, He is a joy to watch play the game of baseball. I wish him and his family the very best. I hope he has a great career and earns a ton of money and I hope he is given the respect due the American League Batting Champion for 2022. Good luck Mi Amigo.
  11. I do not have any evidence to prove that a pitcher is less likely to be injured by pitching in relief rather than starting the game as a starter. However many have posted that the Twins do not want to risk moving Duran to starter from reliever. I wonder if this is true.
  12. The danger is that starting Duran may work until he is injured. Then the Twins have no starter and have lost the best reliever in the game today.
  13. Which of these prospects/players would you give the Mets for catcher, Kevin Parada: 1) Brooks Lee; 2) Luis Arraez; 3) Max Kepler; 4) Jorge Polanco; or 5) Trevor Larnach? Personally I would trade any one of these 5 for Parada. What do you think?
  14. Really well written article about a provocative subject. Thanks Steven.
  15. Interesting point. I may ask my friend, Mark Davidson, about this. He was on the 87 team.
  16. I agree Bly. If I heard Gardy or Rocco say this once, I have heard it a hundred times after losses: "It's a long season". Baloney. It is one day at a time, one game at a time, one inning at a time, one pitch at a time. The games in April count as much as the "September pennant race" games.
  17. Al, Your points are well taken. You are correct according to all of the major prospect rankings. We Twins' fans tend to rank our Twins' prospects higher than any of the major prospect lists and rankings. Why is that? I think it is similar to parents who erroneously think their children are the greatest athletes on any team, because they love their children and are biased. We Twins' fans are also biased in our beliefs about the Twins' prospects.
  18. Wonderful post Doc. Well written. Is your doctorate in literature? Thank you.
  19. What about letting Farmer catch in Spring Training to see how that works out?
  20. Thanks Nick. This was a really "nice" article. And you know what... I believe you are correct. Not everyone wants to raise a family in the hustle and bustle of a big city. I sure don't. I'm a small town guy, who enjoys the slow pace and the friendly smiles and casual talk in a small town. Life does not have to be a rush to the finish. For me, I'm happier with a pleasant stroll.
  21. Who will DH? A mishmash of whoever is healthy or the American League batting champion?
  22. Why is no one on this thread talking about Arraez playing at DH? Somebody has to DH 4 to 5 AB each game. Every game. It would save Arraez's legs, plus he would be available to play 1B when needed. I understand the concept of trading when one's value is high...but if a team uses that theory, then it trades its best performers every year. How foolish that would be! The team that does that will never be a consistent winner. If the player is good (wins a batting championship), is good in the clubhouse, loved by the fans, why trade him? Keep him for what he brings to the team. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
