  1. If this is true, it is a more difficult decision as to whether to tender arbitration to Gio. I, for one, would want to keep Gio. I have read he is a good clubhouse influence and he is hitting well and can hit to the opposite field and can play an adequate 3B. Keep in mid, if C-4 does not stay, and if Lewis does not immediately hit the ground running (pun intended) or needs periodic rest periods, then Gio could play SS too.
  2. Tell Sano and Bundy, "Thank you for being a Twin and for your work and good luck with your new team." Tell Gray: "Thank you for 2022 and welcome back for 2023".
  3. Cody: What an attention-grabbing title to an interesting article. I spilled my coffee as I read the title. I really do think this FO deserves a lot of praise for the whole Twins system, which seems to keep on running well, even when the inevitable happens and players get sick or hurt; when prospects don't pan out; walk-off wins and walk-off losses; when covid strikes; when Cleveland ties the Twins for 1st place; when the Evil Empire comes to town and sweeps the "Minnesota nice" players; and when blue skies of summer turn grey in the fall. All in all, it is a good thing to be a Twins fan and to be a member of the Twins Daily family.
  4. Is there insurance to pay these players while they are on the IL, or does the Twins organization just have to pony up to pay the injured players for the binding contracts which were signed, sealed and delivered?
  5. Doc, I must respectfully disagree that you can't fix poor "clutch hitting", if "clutch hitting" means advancing runners and hitting with runners in scoring position and avoiding rally sapping double plays. If some Twins players could be taught/encouraged/told to hit behind a baserunner, hit to the opposite field when a runner is in scoring position, bunt to advance a runner...then I contend the Twins would score more runs, which is my definition of "clutch hitting", when runners are on base. I do agree with all of your other really good points.
  6. I suggest that if we look at the spray charts of where the Twins' "good clutch hitters" hit the baseball in "clutch situations", that the charts will show that the "successful clutch hitters" are hitting to the opposite field at a much higher percentage than the "not very good at clutch hitting hitters". Am I the only one who thinks this way? Yes, it is good to hit the ball as hard as you can in some situations, but it is also good to recognize the situation and sometimes follow Wee Willie Keeler's advice to "hit'em where they ain't". In extra innings, down by one run, nobody out, and a runner at 2B, Buck should have been punching the ball to the right of the infield, or bunting to advance the tying run to 3B, instead of striking out by swinging for the left field fence. Oh, I know Buck has 26 home runs and a homer would be a walk-off victory, but how did that strategy work out? Just hit the ball to the right side of the infield or outfield and advance the runner. I speak from experience from my days of playing intermural softball at UNC, where my single to right field (I bat right-handed) drove in the winning run, in walk-off fashion, and my team won the UNC Graduate School Intermural Softball Championship in 1972. But then, you probably already knew that.
  7. Good luck Duffman. Thanks for being a Minnesota Twin all these years.
  8. OK you got me. I chose Sandy Koufax.
  9. Thanks Chief for correcting my mistake. That's what I get for relying on google instead of going to mlb.com. Google said that the team with the better record will host the 3 game series. However upon re-reading what google said, I think it was referring to the wildcard games. At any rate, thank you for posting this information. That certainly makes better sense than what I had posted. By the way, I plan on coming to Minnesota from North Carolina for at least one playoff game, sooooooooooooooo Gooooooooooooooooooo Twins.
  10. We don't know yet...no one has hit his pitches.
  11. If you add Brooks Lee and Connor Prielipp, things look better. You also must factor the order in which the Twins drafted. After a good season, the draft order is much lower, which usually means less talent in the overall draft that year.
  12. I's chose Jack Morris. I hate that the 3 game series between the division champ with the worst record among the 3 division champs, will have to play all 3 games at the home field of the last wild card team to get in, if the last wildcard team has a better record than the 3rd best division champ.
  13. At least the Guardians lost. The Twins need to go on a tear right now, today, and beat Detroit. The Twins have a difficult schedule the rest of the year. Today's game is the most important game of the year...today. Today is a gift. That is why it is called "the present". Own it. Seize the day.
  14. I agree with your assessment. Just think what we posters would be writing (myself included) if the Twins had done nothing (like the White Sox and Guardians).
  15. The Twins are a better team today than they were 2 days ago, partly due to this trade. The AL Central is there for the Twins to take. The Twins had to obtain several relievers and they did so. Lopez was the key. I watched a really great video showing his 9 year old son, who has health problems, watching his dad pitch. It was beautiful Welcome to the Twins family, Jorge Lopez and your family.
  16. A good way to look at this. I do miss Petty though.
  17. Who has been removed from the Twins 26 man roster and who has been removed from the 40 man roster, to make room for Lopez and Mahle? The Twins are a much better team today than they were yesterday.
  18. I like this trade. Twins get immediate help this year, and potential help the next 2 years.
  19. Chief, I agree about questionable management. AJ Pierzynski was the color man on the mlb/tv game last night. AJ also questioned why Gray was not sent out for the 6th inning because the bullpen had been overworked already this year and Gray had had a good, short 5th inning. AJ also said Gordan should have advanced to 3B instead of stopping at 2B on the Celestino hit to RF. He said there was now way he would have been thrown out. AJ criticized Pagan's errant throw to 1B, saying when you come in a game, you've got to be ready to play. I had not been an AJ fan, he is too abrasive for me. but AJ kept making really good points. I did not watch the start of the game, so I did not know who the color man was until late in the game. He also said Gordan may be wearing his pants above his knees in order to get more balls called on low pitches when he is batting. A really interesting point. All in all, AJ really show some keen baseball knowledge. I enjoyed his comments.
