  1. I meant to say the Twins need more than a starting pitcher to push them over the top. The bullpen still needs some of the younger arms to continue to make strides up. I would like to see an improved bench as well. Then you still have the DH issue to deal with. Do they actually give Kennys Vargas the job since I believe he is out of options? Or does he split with Robbie Grossman?
  2. No way I would ever go over $22M a year for Darvish unless it was for 4 years or less. Like I said before, they need more than 1 starting pitcher to push them over the top.
  3. I run from any deal for 6 years for a pitcher. The Twins need more than 1 starting pitcher to go to the World Series. To be honest, just wait 1 more year & Cleveland will be completely shelled by free agency so be happy settling for the wild card in 2018. Joe Mauer's contract will be off the books as well so 2019 will be great.
  4. I don't want anything to do with any of these "top free agent pitchers." Do you really want to sign Yu Darvish to a 6-7 year deal? Then you have Alex Cobb asking for $20M a year? The worst part of the slow winter deals is Scott Boras is pulling all the strings and will get the lower end guys signed first before the big players sign unless the money is completely insane.
  5. No need to talk extension for Dozier. If he wants to stay here it shouldn't matter if he signs an extension now or does after the season. Joe Mauer's extension killed this organization in my mind. He had no desire to leave the comfort of Minnesota. Especially the fact of no pressure from the media like he would have got from New York or Boston. So don't make the same mistake with Dozier. The Twins have options at 2nd base so please wait until after the season for a new contract.
  6. Sure. I highly doubt they had no knowledge before it went public.
  7. Yes, and I thought it was not sexual assault. It's like when San Diego was trading hurt players & MLB came back and punished them. How could you expect other GM's to want to make deals with any teams that are looking shady. I am sure most GM's have done things shady but when you get caught it is a big deal.
  8. One other point, pretty shady that the Twins were reportedly offering up Sano in trade talks. If that is the case I have more of a problem with our front office than with Sano.
  9. So the real question is did she recently get let go by the Twins? It just seems shady when stories pop up after things that happened over 2 years ago. I am not saying that nothing happened, it looks bad when people don't come forward right away. For all we know she could have gone to the Twins or Sano asking for hush money to make it go away. If that was the case wouldn't it be called extortion? Not being a woman I cannot know how one would think. If anyone did something wrong to me I would report it ASAP and would not care if it caused me to be fired.
  10. That is why you don't give Darvish ace money. To be honest I don't think I would would want any of the top 4 free agent pitchers for more than 2 seasons. Which none would ever sign for.
  11. Not sure Yu Darvish is the answer to the Twins future. He has never thrown over 200 innings since 2013. And over 2127 innings in his professional career.
  12. If the Twins drafted Mark Prior he may still be pitching in the majors. Dusty Baker destroyed his & Kerry Wood's careers. The Twins would have taken the normal Twins way with Prior & he would have made it to the majors 2-3 later than he did with the Cubs. Sad part would be the Twins would have dealt him after 5 seasons since he would not want to stay in Minnesota...
  13. I don't think I want any of these pitchers for more than 5 years. Not sure anyone noticed but in 12 seasons counting his MLB & NPB Darvish has thrown 2127 innings. Next years free agent pitchers list isn't much better.
  14. But we signed Pineda for 2019... oops, does that mean 2018 is a forgotten year?
  15. I don't think any team that is left needs extra international money. Sounds like it was reported some place that he basically already has $20M in endorsements at the moment. And if he has narrowed his choices down to 7 already he has it down really to 2 or 3 teams. It wold have to be an American League Team so he can DH when he doesn't pitch. Nelson Cruz was Seattle's DH 147 games last season. He is just under contract for 2018 so that would be a fit. Give Seattle a call and offer them $2M for a MLB ready player or 2.
  16. I had more of an idea of offering Santana a 2 year extension for $25M.
  17. Thought they said Royce Lewis is going to converted into an outfielder since I thought the glove was not MLB quality.
  18. So a player with the speed of Byron Buxton should never think about laying down a bunt? With a little work with his speed and ability to steal a base it's wonderful. I am not saying he should bunt every game but it's a way to open open holes in the defense as well.
  19. I wish people would actually learn how to bunt properly. So many times when you get into the playoffs and you need to advance a runner teams can't lay down a simple bunt. Has anyone ever seen how Rod Carew could handle a bat. A great lost art that sadly is being neglected.
  20. The Twins should have used their international money and bought a couple of prospects that needed to be protected. With the Yankees out trading for money it would have made sense to try to swing some sort of deal. I would have to say there is a 1% chance that Ohtani would chose the Twins when the Yankees, Rangers, & Dodgers can't wait to make him a deal.
  21. Am I wrong that players cannot be on the 60 day DL now they need to be added to 40 man roster? It's a little early and my brain has not quite started up yet. Pretty sure they need to be added and cannot be put on 60 day DL until first day of season.
  22. If you go free agent route it's Holland or Davis. Both will command over $19M for at least 4 years. That is why you would go this route. The opt out does not make him a free agent, just gets him more moeny via arbitration.
  23. The Twins do finally get out of the Mauer contract after this season so they will have money to spend. Depending on how much it would take for a 4-5 year deal.
