What the Heck Is Going On with Zebby Matthews?
darin617 replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I can agree with that, but pulling the plug after 3 starts is foolish. -
What the Heck Is Going On with Zebby Matthews?

A pitcher doesn't need to throw in the upper 90's to succeed. Hitters can time a pitch, it's more about the location and changing speeds. Just look at Aroldis Chapman in the Boston series. Hitters were looking for the upper 90's to 100 and made them look foolish with an 86 mph slider. -
What the Heck Is Going On with Zebby Matthews?
darin617 replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I would disagree with making a switch now. He has struggled but he's only had 3 starts so far. Pulling the plug on him now would be a mistake. If he's moved to the bullpen in St Paul he will not be throwing enough to hopefully snap himself out of his current funk. I would think part of his struggles are a mental thing right now. He was in the majors last year and didn't make the team this year. That could have him doubting his stuff. He should keep working on it in St Paul and if he continues to struggle into June then you either move him to the pen or send him down to AA. It could mentally ruin him or be the motivation he needs to turn it around. -
Seriously going to use Taco Tuesday as a headline for two Latin American players. I may be overreacting but we don't any racist type headlines here.

To be honest, lets all just ignore all Pohald nonsense until after the possible lockout this offseason. They will not be even trying to sell the team until the new labor agreement is signed. The teams value will be greater then. So sadly we all have to wait quite a while for a new ownership group. I can't wait for them to be gone from Minnesota.

Way too many outfielders when they are all healthy. Fedko should beg to let them play him at 1st. He at least has some experience playing 1st.

I'm pretty sure Pablo said he could throw left handed and hit low 80's i think. Let him do that until he blows out the left arm.

They simply need to give Taj Bradley at least 1 more year as a starter. He can't be a free agent until 2030 and he was only in the organization for a couple of months. I think if he doesn't make the rotation you just send him to St Paul and keep him starting for now. You can easily turn a starter into a bullpen guy during the season. It's obviously not as easy to go the other way. The same should go for Zebby Matthews. I could see David Festa as a guy for the bullpen. He just doesn't seem like he can go through the lineup more than one time effectively. Festa also has dealt with some injuries so he may be the starter I would first transition to the bullpen.

Why Minnesota Twins Should Sign Miguel Andujar
darin617 replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about a trade with the Reds to bring Spencer Steer back to MN? He can platoon at 1st with Clemens and it should be cheap since Steer was thought to be a non tender candidate. -
5 Best Suitors in Byron Buxton Trade Rumors
darin617 replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is the exact reason the Twins could get a haul for Buxton. He also has incentives so he can earn more than 15M. To be honest, the Twins would be foolish to listen to offers. He's over 30 and he finally played over 100 games for the third time in his career and there's nothing to think he will keep that up. Yes, fans will be upset with a trade but if they could get a good return it would be foolish not to deal him. -
There's also a draft lottery for MLB and the worst record doesn't guarantee anything. Without looking into a team can't get a top 5 pick or something because the White Sox weren't able to win last years lottery.

Teams tank if they are out of the playoffs and wouldn't care if a team did it. Look at the Marlins for an example, twice they went out and signed a ton of free agents and they won the World Series. Both times the following year they had a fire sale. So if MLB can allow a World Championship team do it right after winning how would that compare to what the Twins did? I would also think MLB is worried more about Tampa, Miami, & Pittsburgh never spending any money and getting all the revenue sharing money.

If you take away the Varland trade the Twins won the trade deadline.

Why The Twins Shouldn’t Sign Rhys Hoskins
darin617 replied to Jason Wang's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wouldn't be upset if they could sign him for like 4-6 million with incentives and they flip him at the deadline if the Twins fall out of the race at the deadline. -
Trading Jeffers is the right move since he's a free agent after the season. They could possibly do better, but it would fill 2 holes at the same time.

Jeffers should be dealt since he can become a free agent after the season. They could hold onto him and trade him at the deadline and hope he is being productive. The best thing would be to trade him now if they can find a decent, cheap veteran to fill in for now.

Right, as long as they get to play in at least 4 games a week if not more. Having him sit on the bench and only being used as a pinch runner is jerking him around.

It's not a bad spot to be in if you think about it. If someone gets released the Twins can easily drop like one of eight players and go from there. I know it's dumpster diving but you can always get lucky and find a gem. They should also grab a player in the rule 5 draft and maybe even trade for another if they see someone they really like there.
